Jinkies! There’s A Live-Action Daphne And Velma Film In The Works?

Not A Scooby In Sight

And you thought that Mystery Incorporated teaming up with the likes of Batman and John Cena was the weirdest thing that could happen to this franchise, but nope. According to an article on Cartoonbrew, apparently the ladies of Scooby Doo are getting their own film sometime in 2018.

Given how the previous live-action Scooby Doo flicks fell below par, you’ll forgive us if we’re not exactly feeling the puppy power here.

Currently in production, the film is shooting in Atlanta, and will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2018.

Sarah Jeffery (Shades of Blue) and Sarah Gilman (Last Man Standing) will portray Daphne and Velma, respectively.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright & optimistic Daphne and whip-smart & analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, an incredible tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.

The project is being produced by Ashley and Jennifer Tisdale through their production company Blondie Girl Productions, which focuses on “telling stories for millennial women by millennial women.” Suzi Yoonessi (Olive and Mocha: First Kiss, Dear Lemon Lima) directs from a script by Kyle Mack and Caitlin Meares. Yoonessi also produces along with the Tisdales, Amy Kim, and Jaime Burke.

We’re not totally discounting the idea that this could work. After all, strip away the rest of the gang and you still have two iconic female characters and one big mystery to solve. If the characters and performances are actually investing maybe it will surprise us all?
