Are We Getting Titanfall VR In 2019?

VR Mecha Battles?!

It’s astounding just how quickly VR is taking hold of the gaming industry. While individual titles continue to push the boundaries of what virtual reality can do, several big hitters like Fallout 4 and Skyrim are set to be adapted into the format.

Shooting super mutants and slaying dragons are certainly appealing…but the idea of being inside a giant robot and gunning down other giant robots in VR sounds AMAZING!

And from the sounds of it, we might just be getting something like that in 2019, courtesy of the boys behind Titanfall.

According to an article on Gamesradar

One of the biggest surprises at the [Oculus Connect] show was the news that Oculus is working with Titanfall 2 developer Respawn to create an exclusive game.

What the game actually is will be under wraps for a while, and the current release date is 2019. But we can take some clues from the fact that Respawn created Titanfall and was founded by Call Of Duty overlords Jason West and Vince Zampella. Basically, you can expect shooting.

“There are so many cool parts to making a game in VR, but perhaps the most intense one is emotion,” says game director Peter Hirschmann in a masterfully vague blog post.

“Game assets you’ve seen a hundred times on a monitor suddenly become real when you put the headset on,” writes Hirschmann. “The sense of scale, the sense of presence, there’s nothing else like it. It’s the difference between using your mouse to rotate an object in an editor and walking around it in real life.”

While we have no idea what VR parkour would look like, lets hope that this dream project manages to extend the capabilities of the medium even further.

Again, we REALLY want more giant robots in our virtual reality games, especially if they’re as awesome as BT-7274.
