Can He Bring Some Of That Amazon Luck With Him?
Wonder Woman wasn’t only a fun romp that more than did Diana of Themyscira justice, but it ended up putting a bump in the DCEU’s losing streak. Credit where credit is due, Patty Jenkins and Gal Godot really pulled it out of the park.
Sony Pictures must have been impressed, since they have snatched one of the co-writers to help breath life into the long dormant live-action version of the beloved anime series Robotech.
According to an article on Anime News Network –
Jason Fuchs, one of the story co-creators for this year’s Wonder Woman film, is writing the script for Sony‘s planned live-action Robotech film. The Deadline website reported on Tuesday that Fuchs is working with director Andy Muschietti (Mama, It) “to create the new [Robotech]from scratch.” Fuchs also co-wrote 2012’s Ice Age: Continental Drift and wrote 2015’s Pan.
The proposed live-action film project was first announced in 2007 with actor Toby Maguire involved at Warner Brothers. In 2008, Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back) was attached to the project as scriptwriter, with Charles Roven (Afro Samurai, The Dark Knight and Akiva Goldsman joining as producers. In 2009, British TV writer Tom Rob Smith was slated to write the film’s story. In the same year, Roven backed out of the project for undisclosed reasons and is now producing the DC Comics films such as Aquaman. (Kasdan is involved in the recent Star Wars film projects.) In 2013, Warner Bros. was in talks to hire director Nic Mathieu to helm Robotech.
So the guy may not have the best track record and we all know that anime adaptations, especially ones helmed by North American studios, have something of an infamous reputation. Hopefully Robotech will prove to be the one exception, if it ever truly gets off of the ground.
