For this list, we’ll be looking at the conclusions to video games that had such a profound impact that many a gamer was left weeping by the end.

#10: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
With the Wild Hunt’s defeat, your choices will dictate the ultimate fate of Geralt and Ciri. Do father and daughter live happily every after? Or have your poor decisions cost them dearly?

Turns out the Joker’s final gag ends in his death, leaving Batman without a nemesis and in someways a shadow of his former self.
#8: Gears of War 3
After so much bloodshed and loss, Marcus Fenix and the rests of the Gears finally put an end to the Locust threat, providing a tomorrow for humanity.
#7: Bioshock Infinite
Turns out that Booker and Comstock are the same person, just from different realities. In order to stop the cycle and keep his daughter Elizabeth safe, Booker allows himself to be drowned.
#6: Mass Effect 2
Depending on your choices, Shepard and crew either defeat the Collectors or lose their lives during the Suicide Mission.
#5: Spec Ops: The Line
After facing the horrors of war, it’s revealed that Martin Walker has lost his mind. The only options left are to either return home a broken man, die or give into the monster within.
#4: The Last of Us
Deciding to sacrifice humanity rather than lose Ellie, Joel guns down the Fireflies, preventing a possible cure from being made. What’s worse, he chooses to lie to Ellie, telling her there truly is no hope left.
#3: Shadow of the Colossus
He took down sixteen Colossi in order to resurrect his true love, but ends up becoming a vessel for the demon Dormin instead.
#2: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Surprise! Turns out The Boss wasn’t a traitor. She was actually the ultimate patriot, willing to die in disgrace for her country. Feel bad for killing her? You should.
#1: Red Dead Redemption
He went to hell and back for the sake of his family, only to be betrayed at the end of it all. All we can do is watch as John Marston makes a final stand to protect his loved ones, leading to him being mercilessly gunned down.
