So, be sure to subscribe for more great content. #3: Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams to Make “Star Trek” Movie Not only are Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams making waves in Hollywood with their Manson Era and Star Wars movie, respectively, but also for their plans to travel deep into space. According to Deadline, sources say that Tarantino has come up with an original Star Trek story at Paramount Pictures and has enlisted the help of fellow filmmaker J.J. Abrams to help with the project. Abrams is no stranger to the Star Trek franchise, either directing or producing every installment since 2009’s Star Trek. Tarantino however, has never directed anything other than original creations for the big screen, the only exceptions being TV gigs for CSI and ER. The two filmmakers are said to be assembling a team of writers to write and tweak the story. Deadline reports that Tarantino is in talks to direct, with Abrams to produce. #2: Disney Closing in on Acquiring 21st Century Fox Disney looks like they’re on the verge of taking over the whole entertainment industry. In a report first broke by CNBC, the entertainment giant is reportedly closing in on purchasing mass media company 21st Century Fox along with all of it’s movie and television properties, and sources say the deal could be finalized as early as next week. Amongst those properties are Fox sports and its contracts, their 30 percent stake in streaming service Hulu and of course, the Fox owned Marvel properties Fantastic Four and X-Men. The deal is rumored to be for $60 billion. While the purchase of Fox would benefit Disney, the idea of one studio producing most of the content the public consumes does raise concern from some in the industry and fans alike, wondering if one major creative source would limit diversity and creativity in Hollywood. Before we get to our final entry, here are a couple new releases: “Just Getting Started” (2017) “I, Tonya” (2017) #1: Bryan Singer Sued for the Alleged Sexual Assault of a Minor After being fired earlier this week from directing Fox’s Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Bryan Singer is again the subject of front-page news. According to court documents obtained by Variety, Singer is being sued for allegedly raping a then 17-year-old Cesar Sanchez-Guzman at a yacht party back in 2003. The documents claim that Singer forcefully thrust himself upon Sanchez-Guzman, forced him onto the floor and then raped him. Singer’s camp denies the allegations, claiming they’re fabrications, and even point to a previous case in which Sanchez-Guzman’s lawyer previously represented Michael Egan - a man who also sued Singer for sexual assault in 2014. The case was eventually dropped by Egan, however, as the case seemed to be falling apart. “Notwithstanding his track record, this same lawyer is coming after Bryan again,” Singer’s reps said in a statement. “Once Bryan prevails, he will pursue his own claims for malicious prosecution.”
