The 10 WORST Recent Video Game Bosses
Ahzrak and Witch
Doom: The Dark Ages (2025)
As much as we love ripping and tearing as the Doom Slayer, we cant help but feel severely underwhelmed when it comes to his final encounter with this demonic prince. High off taking down Dooms version of Cthulhu, we expected something epic to round out the Slayers time shooting shit up in the middle ages. Alas, this tag team final bout is a major letdown. One after another both Ahzrak and his witchy assistant will lash out with melee strikes and bullet hell barragesboth of which can easily be subdued with some half decent parrying. The whole ordeal is monotonous, especially after Ahzrak gets himself a phase twowhere nothing changes. Compared to something like the Spider Hivemind, this isnt so much doom as it is dud.
Tyreen the Destroyer
Borderlands 3 (2019)
Whats worse than a bullet sponge? How about one that doesnt know when to shut the hell up. Among all of this threequels atrocious writing, nothing made our blood boil more than suffering through the endless rants of the Calypso Twins. Obnoxious is putting it lightly, and that unfortunately applies to both their dialogue and their boss battles, with Tyreen being the worst offender. Turns out she doesnt just inherit the Destroyers title, but also the same agonising, repetitive gameplay loop as it takes forever to do any real damage no matter what guns youre rocking. And yes, even when getting bludgeoned with bullets, she still doesnt shut up.
Moreau
Resident Evil Village (2021)
Its not that we hate this villain on a conceptual level. As one of the Four Lords, Moreau encapsulates the undersea monster trope rather well. Dare we say the portion of his boss fight where he acts as an environmental hazard is actually decent. Its just when you have to fight him on dry land that it falls apart. Being hunted by a giant bloated fish man might sound scary, but between constantly having to run around in circles and the infuriating range of his acid spray, the experience quickly becomes stale, especially when put up against the likes of Lady D or Heisenberg.
Mickey and Lou
Far Cry: New Dawn (2019)
Even the few fans that were begging for a sequel to Far Cry 5 couldnt defend this drudgery. Living their best life following a nuclear apocalypse, things finally come to a head between the player and twins Mickey and Lou, leading to - what else - a Ubisoft bullet sponge bonanza. Despite being the furthest thing from heavily armored, both sisters are able to withstand near endless gunfire, made all the worse by how you have to also deal with their minions AND pursue them over the map. Its a dry finale to an unwanted follow up, and an utter waste of Cara Ricketts and Leslie Millers top tier performances.
Godskin Duo
Elden Ring (2022)
For the most part, the carnival of boss fights found in the Lands Between are incredible, some standing tall as some of the centurys best. The Godskin Duo is not one of them. Double battles are something that FromSoft have perfected over the years, and yet this pair of white clad headaches go against all of that previous success. Both the Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble maintain their attacks from their individual boss fights, but in no way work in tandem. Combined with the claustrophobic arena, its all too easy to be overwhelmed. Youd think the two sharing a health bar would balance everything outbut even that gets messed up when one is resurrected at the end for one last hurrah.
Archdemon Razikale
Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024)
Turns out that it wasnt just the story and party members that fell off with Dragon Ages latest incarnation, but also its boss fights. Both Origins and Inquisition nailed the threat and awe of what an Archdemon could beand then theres Veilguard. On paper the idea of taking on a hydra born from the corpse of a blighted dragon sounds amazing, but the execution is so hollow that it becomes an act in frustration. Each of the three heads will lash out one after another, giving you a small window to pile on the damage. Its painfully simple and yet also a chore given how bulky its collective health pool is. Veilguard has plenty of low points and this is certainly one of them.
Mr Holiday
Wanted: Dead (2023)
The clunky controls, abominable camera, and failed homage to the games of the seventh generation ensured that Wanted Dead crashed and burned upon arrival, and the same can be said of its bosses. While they each suffer from the same issues, were going with Mr Holiday becausewelltheres two of them. Theres no joy to be found in any of the hacking and slashing here, just constantly holding up your guard while both Mr Holidays go on the attack. At the halfway point, one will perish from their wounds. Only problem is that the other gets a full revive, starting the cycle all over again. Please, make it stop!
Brainiac
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024)
Given how miserable it was shooting our way through this failed attempt at a live-service, we should have suspected they would drop the ball at the finish line. But even those lofty standards were shattered when Branniac, one of the deadliest villains in all of DCdidnt even have his own moveset. Instead, he just copies the Flash, so the whole encounter plays out exactly like the first boss battle of the game. Its so cookie cutter, so lazy that any hope the game may have had about inspiring players to try out the endgame was instantly dashed. The fact they wanted us to fight the same boss another twelve times is laughable.
The Candle Man
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (2023)
This game fails on every fundamental level, is it really any surprise that its final boss is so terrible it can barely be considered a fight? As per standard fare, the game has us platforming and stealthing our way through the stage, all the while the Candle Man randomly blasts out with arrows from above. Underwhelming doesnt even come close, all of it culminating in this apparent high-ranking servant of Sauron getting choked out by Gollum of all people via poorly rendered cutscene. This was just another layer onto the Mordor sized crap cake, cementing it as one of the worst games ever made.
Queen Oyoq
Skull Island: Rise of Kong (2023)
Every boss in this game is flat out terrible. The same way that the gameplay is flat out terrible. While you have the option to glitch through most of the levels by speeding past every enemy, youre unfortunately locked in when it comes to the bosses. The worst among them being this giant spider. Why? Because instead of it being the typical punch out with a poorly designed creature, this arachnid has the nasty tendency to leap onto the ceiling, forcing you to make use of Kongs terrible throwing mechanicswhich eventually leads to the whole thing becoming a punch out with a poorly designed creature. GameMill really cant keep getting away with this.
