Some games are too addictive to put down. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be taking a look at 2009’s bizarre comedic puzzle game Angry Birds, which debuted for the iPod Touch.
Created by Finland-based developer Rovio Mobile, this offbeat adventure quickly became the most popular gaming pastime for the mobile devices, and even spread to the home consoles.
As the game opens, players take control of a flock of birds that are extremely protective of their eggs. Unfortunately, a group of evil pigs have stolen their offspring.
Pursuing their stolen property, they discover that the pigs have sheltered themselves within countless structures. These have been made from various materials, including wood, glass and stone.
Responding with extreme prejudice, the flock sets up a slingshot and begins flinging themselves at the pigs and the structures, in order to exact revenge against their mortal enemies, and reclaim their property.
Directing the angle of your shots, players must successfully take down the pigs in the countless levels, without running out of a pre-determined amount of feathery ammo. The more destruction you cause, while using less shots, will raise your total score.
In later stages of the game, additional objects such as rocks and explosives are found, and may be used to help you accomplish your goals.
The amount of thought and skill required increases as well. This is due to being able to fling several different types of birds.
Starting out, you can only fling the basic red bird. However, as you advance, you are given birds with different colours that have special abilities, these are triggered by tapping the screen while they are on route to their target.
These include blue birds that separate into three smaller birds, a black bird that will self-destruct, a yellow bird that speeds up, and a white bird that drops explosive eggs.
Not only does the bird variety change, but the pigs change as well. This includes changes in size and strength, plus they eventually start wearing armor.
Boasting a large amount of replay value, Angry Birds awards players with a star rating, levels can be played again in whatever order you wish, and as many times as necessary to beat-out your friend’s score.
With Halloween and Christmas expansions having been released, as well as packets of new levels being developed all the time; this extremely cheap but highly amusing game is sure to infatuate anyone who picks it up.
