Travel Guide: Norway - Winter Activities

The Kirkenes Snow Hotel
Found in Norway’s most easterly town, the Kirkenes Snow Hotel is one attraction that should not be missed by visitors traveling to Norway during winter months. This beautiful creation is made entirely out of snow each winter season, and showcases local art and architecture. While it is warmer inside the snow hotel than out in the elements, it is still relatively cold so make sure to bundle up! And make sure to visit the Snow Bar for a drink to help keep warm, as well.
Exotic Outdoor Winter Activities
While traveling in the cold, there are still a number of exciting and exotic outdoor activities in which to partake. Enjoy the arctic conditions while viewing the fjords, take a snowmobile tour of the landscape, and even attempt to catch your very own King Crab. Or you can rush through the countryside with the help of a dogsled team.
View the Northern Lights
Better yet, make an excursion to view the colorful and unique Northern Lights. But as always, make sure you’ve got the proper clothes to keep you warm!
Glaciers
Because Norway was once completely covered by ice, today it is home to a number of huge glaciers. These icy wonders are picturesque attractions, and fascinating for those scientifically-minded tourists.
Skiing
Skiing is Norway’s national sport, and it is just one of the many ways to see the unspoiled landscape. Norway boasts a six-month long ski season, and conditions rarely suffer during that time. Norefjell is one mountain range found in the country, and features a popular alpine ski resort. Both downhill and cross-country skiing are popular, and are traditions carried on by most native Norwegians.
