Known as the nutmeg state, Connecticut is found in the New England region of the United States. One of the country's smaller states, it is also a populous one. Some sections of the state are considered to be part of the Tri-State Area, along with regions in New York and New Jersey. Since 1875, Connecticut's capital has been Hartford, while today its largest city is Bridgeport. Home to such American institutions as Yale University and the historic Mystic seaport, this state played an important role in the history of the country.
