VOICE OVER: Todd Haberkorn WRITTEN BY: NA
More than difficult levels and online trolls, the hardest video game bosses are a huge source of rage. MojoPlays we're bringing you some of the most difficult bosses in Video Game History.
I hope you like to get your ass whooped by the same dudes and dudettes over and over again, because today on MojoPlays we’re bringing you some of the hardest as f*** bosses in Video Game History. Sans “Undertale” (2015) If you’re brave enough to take the genocide route and challenge Sans in “Undertale” you’re likely the kind of gamer who is looking for punishing difficulty. Well, congrats! You found it! You’ll need to memorize these gruelling mini-games patterns within an inch of perfection while continuously dying over and over again due to their frustrating difficulty. Seriously, just watching some of these patterns makes us feel dizzy… There’s no other way to progress this battle but to fight Sans, so make sure you bring as many recovery items with you as possible. He’s not impossible, but he can sure feel like it at times. Red Falcon “Contra” (1987) The whole game itself is already balls to the wall hard enough, and by the time you’ve reached the final level, you’re now dealing with a countless number of electric fields, alien warriors, and more. Before you get to the “totally-not-a-Xenomorph” head. Oh but did you think that face was the boss? Ah only gets worse as you have to get to his flashing nerve center, because you’ll have to face even an even worse onslaught of aliens in a tight space when you get to the heart of the operation. There’s only one way to take him out—fire away! Ornstein & Smough “Dark Souls” (2011) What’s worse than facing off against one incredibly punishing boss? Well, two bosses of course! Ornstein and Smough are designed to test your patience, what with Ornstein’s constant lunge and homing attacks somehow always finding their mark no matter how much you roll, and Smough’s much slower, though more deadly hammer attacks destroying your health bar. If you lock on to either one of them, it’s basically game over, as the other will eat your lunch – fast. Choosing which boss to kill first is a tough decision too, seeing as the remaining boss becomes doubly as powerful in the second stage of the fight; but, the real challenge comes in dodging both bosses successfully while they’re still alive. Good luck! Alma “Ninja Gaiden” [Xbox Version] (2004) Like Dark Souls, this series is infamous for its difficulty, and this battle may very well have been its high point. The speed of her attacks requires you to be quick in order to dodge them. She moves pretty fast herself, and you’ll have a tough time landing even one sword slash, let alone a combo. Be patient, though, and wait until she’s in just the right position for you to take a swipe at her. C’Thun “World of Warcraft” (2004) The Eye of Sauron could learn a thing or two from this boss, and Elune help any player that gets caught in the eyeball’s gaze. In “World of Warcraft”’s earlier years, C’Thun was far and away one of the hardest bosses to conquer, whether alone or with a raid group. In fact, when C’Thun was introduced to WoW in 2006, it took almost 3 months before someone beat him, and that was only after he was nerfed by a couple of patches. Who knew a literal god could be so powerful? Grim Matchstick “Cuphead” (2017) As if this fight wouldn’t have been hard enough just learning Grim’s attack patterns, but dealing with the randomly occurring cloud platforms just seems cruel… Sometimes in order not to fall to your death, you have to eat a projectile from Grim just to land safely on a cloud, making for a frustrating “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. The first two stages of this fight, while still frustrating, are manageable with well-timed jumps. But, it’s the last phase that had us wanting to rage quit! You’ll need to have some amazing concentration skills to keep track of the clouds, orange balls and flamethrower all at once. Orphan of Kos “Bloodborne: The Old Hunters” (2015) Another FromSoftware title but this time we’re hitting up the “Old Hunters” DLC, where those masochists upped the difficulty to give us the toughest baddies in the entire Souls series. Topped off with this walking nightmare. If his loud shrieking doesn’t wreck your nerves, the second phase of this battle sure will, as Kos grows wings and just becomes a pure, unpredictable maniac! Staying still for long enough to even think of parrying in the second stage feels like a death sentence thanks to Kos’ insane leaping attacks and powerful lighting charges. Practice makes perfect, yeah… but you’ll need a bit of luck upending ole Kos. Mike Tyson “Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!!” (1987) Do you think you’re tough enough to take on ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet?’ If you said yes; “GOD HELP YOU!” If you were referring to his virtual avatar … “God Still Help You!” Sure he might not scare us as much as the real Tyson, but the Virtual Tyson has put more fear into the hearts of gamers than any other boss in history. He’s freakishly huge, unbelievably fast, and generally not the sort of guy you’d want to run into in a dark alley. The skill with which he delivers his combos, jabs, and Dynamite Punches will make you sorry you entered the ring.
