Buffalo, New York is lucky enough to have preserved a number of its significant architectural attractions, and today the city is a veritable museum of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century American design. Famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed a number of buildings here, with the Darwin D. Martin House being one of the most significant. Buffalo City Hall showcases art deco style, while the Guaranty Building is a prototype of modern-day skyscrapers. Even the former Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, now known as the H.H. Richardson Complex, is a beautiful addition to the skyline. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com checks out the top architectural attractions in Buffalo, New York.

Buffalo City Hall

Buffalo City Hall is a striking example of art deco architecture that was completed in 1931. The 32-story building is one of the tallest municipal buildings in the United States. Dominating the downtown core, the building also features a number of exquisite sculptures on site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Guaranty Building

Now called the Prudential Building, downtown Buffalo’s Guaranty Building has long been an architectural landmark in the city. A prototype of the modern-day skyscraper, the Guaranty Building was constructed during the last years of the nineteenth century. Both a functional design and a beautiful one, this building is adorned with floral tiles made of terra cotta. It was confirmed as a National Historic Landmark in 1975.

H.H. Richardson Complex

The H.H. Richardson Complex is a large hospital complex designed by Henry Hobson Richardson. Once known as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, this building features tall windows designed to let in light and air for health reasons. Built using red Medina sandstone and brick, the complex features a pair of high towers that soar regally over the grounds. It was made a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

Featuring endeavors by some of the United States’ most notable architects, it is no wonder Buffalo is known as one of the United States’ most architecturally important cities.
