VOICE OVER: Lisa Yang
Script written by Spencer Sher

We bet you didn't know that Kesha wrote these songs! “Windows Down" by Big Time Rush, “Touch Me” by Flo Rida, “Pink Champagne, “The Time of Our Lives by Miley Cyrus, and “Till the World Ends” by Britney Spears were all written by this talented singer/songwriter!

#5: "Windows Down" (2012) Big Time Rush

Now-defunct boy band Big Time Rush may have only been in the game for couple of years, but during that time they had a number of successful singles. This included “Windows Down,” which Kesha had a hand in writing, alongside the likes of Mike Posner and others. The song, which features a hook sampled from Blur’s iconic ‘90s rock jam “Song 2”, for which those songwriters also received credit on this track, charted at number 97 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “Windows Down” is unabashedly dependent on Blur’s catchy instrumentals and distinct “woo hoo!”, but it’s an undeniably fun dance track.

#4: "Touch Me" (2009) Flo Rida

Did you know that Kesha, or K. Sebert, as she is often credited, contributed to the tenth song of Flo-Rida’s sophomore album, R.O.O.T.S.? She lent her signature style to the rapper back in 2009. Of course, anyone keeping up with pop music or Kesha’s work in general will be quick to point out that this wasn’t the only track on which they collaborated, as she also lent her voice to the hook of Flo Rida’s hit single “Right Round” from the same album; though her work on the track went uncredited in America. Regardless, Kesha and Flo Rida clearly make for a good team.

#3: "Pink Champagne" (2013) Ariana Grande

Let’s be honest, are you really that surprised that perennial party girl Kesha penned a track titled “Pink Champagne”? This song is unique in that it isn’t on any of Grande’s albums. Instead, the Florida native chose to upload it to her YouTube account for free; a gift to her fans for helping her reach 10 million followers on Twitter. Not to rail against free stuff, but Grande may have been better off releasing this one as a single because it’s super catchy! Unfortunately “Pink Champagne” never got its own music video, but Grande has been known to perform it live.

#2: "The Time of Our Lives" (2009) Miley Cyrus

The fourth track off of Cyrus’ debut EP may not have garnered the same level of recognition as its hit single “Party in the U.S.A.”, but it’s nevertheless a synth-pop gem in its own right. It was written by Kesha in collaboration with three other writers, including one Pebe Sebert, Kesha’s own mother, who used to co-write for none other than Dolly Parton. The dreamy lyrics and upbeat vibe of this track give it that classic Kesha vibe, albeit, slightly more lyrically-innocent. According to Kesha, she tailored her songwriting to suit Miley and her younger audience.

#1: "Till the World Ends" (2011) Britney Spears

If you listened to the radio in 2011, chances are you heard this song on repeat! The dance pop track proved to be one of the most successful of Spears’ illustrious career and helped cement her as the pop comeback queen of the year. So why did Kesha give away a song that was as close to a guaranteed hit as you can get? Well in an interview with Vulture magazine, Kesha claims that the “song…really solidifies me as a songwriter in the pop music world, which is what I consider myself first and foremost.” With its pulsing beat and hella-fun lyrics, this song certainly established Kesha as a force to be reckoned with.
