RANK MAY CHANGE STILL

Top 30 Cringiest And Just Like That Moments

Welcome to MsMojo, and today were counting down our picks for the times we watched And Just Like That and couldnt help but wonderwhen did watching TV become a full-body cringing experience?

#30: Charlottes Wayward Body Positivity

A Hundred Years Ago

Look, we have to give Charlotte a little slack here. After all, she grew up in an age where the ideal body type only existed in an airbrushed world. Still, youd think that now, as a mother, she might want to avoid passing the body woes of her generation onto her kids. However, when Charlotte goes back to work to reclaim some identity outside of her domestic life, her biggest concern is her figure. Shes desperate to get back to the body she had in her 30s, totally ignoring the very normal fact that bodies change all the time. Its only after meeting her new boss that she finally starts embracing her body exactly as it is.

#29: Nya Drools Over the Michelin Chef

The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée

Losing a few brain cells in front of a crush is relatable; watching Nya shortcircuit around Michelin chefToussaintFeldman is plain painful. Come on, Nyayoure smarter than this. Shes working overtime to look smooth, but every line lands like something rehearsed in the mirror. The writers clearly think its smoldering; its absolutely not. Each forced, overenunciated innuendo clangs like cutlery on china. Practically every interaction feels like a romcom meetcute nobody ordered. By the end, we were watching halfhid behind a cushion, silently begging her to quit the performance, eat the entrée, thank the man, and call it a night. Still, Nya ends the evening with a lot more than a goody bag of leftovers.

#28: Charlotte Gets Down on One Knee

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered

Sex and the City fans may recall a certain bedroom activity Charlotte wasnt a fan of. However, with the right guy, things can change. Now, dont get us wrongtheres nothing wrong with how consenting adults choose to be intimate at any age, no matter what Charlottes friends might say. But how it all goes down (pun unintended) made us wonder if it was time to switch off for good. No one wants to imagine their parents that way, let alone accidentally almost walk in on them. Charlottes excuses are awful enough, but really, she couldve just left it there. Lets hope the door hit Lily hard enough to erase this whole incident from her memory.

#27: Charlottes Flash Period

No Strings Attached

Menopause rarely gets meaningful attention in film or televisionoften reduced to the change with little nuance. In this episode, Charlottes experience with menopause feels like someone copied symptoms from a health site and slipped them into the script. Meanwhile, Charlotte also awkwardly guides Lily through using a tampon, a storyline that couldve been far less cringeworthy. Anyway, back to Charlotte, its great that they included her unexpected period, yet the moment is played out for humiliation. For a show centered on women in their 50s, theres a real missed opportunity here. These are normal life experiences, and the show should aim to normalize them. Instead, they quite literally make Charlotte the butt of the joke.

#26: The Natasha Incident

When In Rome

What makes this one so unbelievably and painfully cringe is that it proves Carrie still hasnt grown upeven after all this time. She finds out Big left Natasha something in his will (yes, that Natasha), and while the executor offers a perfectly rational explanation, Carrie decides to spiral. Naturally, she handles it with zero chill and goes full stalker mode. Natasha makes it crystal clear she wants no part of this mess, but Carrie barrels ahead anyway. Then, in a ridiculous turn of events, she corners heralbeit accidentally. Natasha ends up being way more gracious than Carrie probably deserves. She shows up like an emotional wrecking ball and somehow still thinks shes owed closure. Exhausting.

#25: Miranda & Mary

Outlook Good

Youd think the one thing a Sex and the City reboot could manage is writing about, yknow, sex and dating. But much like Carrie and Aidans long-distance debacle, were left completely unsatisfied. And somehow, Miranda still ends up with the worst handeven without Che in the picture. It starts off cringe when she mistakes Bradys old babysitter for a flirt. Just as Mirandas ready to crawl under a barstool, she meets Mary, whos flattering and flirty enough to land in her bed. Only problem is that Mary skipped a few key facts. This turns into an aggressively awkward game of avoidance. Clingy. Uncomfortable. A total mess. And after watching that, weve been scarred For Good.

#24: Lilys Song

The Real Deal

Its not just the adults having cringeworthy momentsturns out cringe might be hereditary. In this episode, Lily wants a new electric keyboard, and when her parents say she has to pay for it herself, she sells off her designer clothes. So far, fine. But then she puts on a dramatic little recital for the family (and Anthony) about the power of privilege. Its giving performative rich-kid rebellion, and its super off-key (not literally). Weve all seen the trope: the pampered teen pushing popping their Park Avenue bubblebut these lyrics dont hit quite like she thinks they do. Wasnt she just mad at her parents for not buying her what she wanted like five minutes ago?

#23: Stanfords Funeral Faux Pas

Little Black Dress

Some people seriously dont know how to read the room, and in terms of funeral faux pas, this ones rough. When Stanford and Anthony show up at Bigs funeral, they spot his former secretary already sat down. Now, the normal move might be to offer condolences and find another seat. But Stanford makes a whole thing out of it and actually boots her so he can be closer to Carrie. Which would seem sweet if he wasnt steamrolling another grieving person in the process. Even Anthony looks uncomfortable and tries to play peacemaker. Meanwhile, Stanford doubles down. Its weirdly selfish, totally tone-deaf, and honestly his behavior is just one big ew.

#22: Aidan & Carrie Break-Up Again

The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée

If you were a SATC fan, you were probably either Team Aidan or Team Big. No matter what side you fell on back then, you likely joined us all in a collective facepalm when Aidan came back into Carries life and made her question everything about her relationship with Big. Sure, theres historybut wouldnt therapy have been cheaper than Carrie having to move to accommodate their messy history? Were not even sure the original Team Aidan crew backed this reunion. It was almost a relief when they broke up! Still, Carrie showed us that she hadnt outgrown making everything about her. Our eyes rolled so hard we saw the inside of our skulls.

#21: Che Roasts Miranda

The Last Supper Part One: Appetizer

No one was exactly heartbroken over Miranda and Ches breakupit was probably the least cringey part of their entire relationship. But then Miranda shows up to Ches stand-up gig, only to find the set is basically a roast of their relationship, and its brutal. Not funny, just mean. This wont be the last time we mention Ches aggressively unfunny comedy, but this one felt personal and painful. If it were a real club, wed expect stampedes of tumbleweed. Ches excuses afterward are tone-deaf at best, and the way they paint themselves as the victim is almost impressive. We could only hope this was finally the wake-up call Mirandas needed for, oh, the past two seasons.

#20: The MILF List

Chapter Three

Lisa and Charlotte are disturbingly excited to learn that a MILF list is being shared around their kids school. Theyre even more delighted when they get their hands on it, and theyre both in the top three. If that doesnt already make you squirm, then check out their reaction when they see the kid behind it. Watching a group of middle-aged women swoon over the minor made us wonder how we would possibly make it through to the end of the episode. The pair also feigns outrage over the whole debacle and question whether something like this should really stain the students academic record. Not only is this storyline troubling on moral and ethical grounds, but its also just really icky.

#19: The Whole Thing with Ches Ex

Alive!

In this episode, we meet Ches not-ex-husband, Lyle. Yep, you heard that correctly. The couple call themselves Poly pioneers and are clearly still on good terms really good terms. In fact, theyre so close that Che has no problem getting it on with Miranda, even with Lyle sleeping right beside them. He sees their intimacy as an invitation to get involved. While Miranda tries to engage in their world, she quickly learns that threesomes might not be for her. Hardcore Sex and the City fans might recall that this isnt the only time Miranda backed out of a threeway. Hey, we said it before, and well say it again: however consenting adults choose to express intimacy is their business. But Miranda was clearly uncomfortable, and we felt that in abundance.

#18: The Writers Clapback at the Haters

Trick or Treat

Most of us will agree that some of the writers choices throughout this series so far have been questionable, and more on those coming up. However, we want to address that focus group scene from season two, episode five, that almost felt like a dig at the critics. Everyone from the writers to the cast is aware that Che didnt make the best first impression. Yet, the creators seemingly tried to shift the blame onto misunderstanding or closed-minded audiences rather than take the criticism on board. In fact, it almost felt like they were trying to hold a mirror up to the Che haters with this focus group. We don't know if that was their intention, but it certainly felt pointed. Either way, it was bizarre.

#17: Carrie Doesnt Call 9-1-1

Hello It's Me

Big suffers a fatal heart attack in an unexpected twist in the premiere episode. The lead up to the tragedy is dramatic, to say the least, with Carrie calmly enjoying a music performance, unaware of the events unfolding back home. So, when she finds Big slumped over in the bathroom, it takes her a beat to register the situation. Shes so overwhelmed, shocked, and distraught that she has a major lapse in judgment. But as she cries over her dying husband, we couldnt help but repeatedly scream, CALL 9-1-1, in hopes that shed hear us through the screen. But, the writers had already sealed Bigs fate, so Carrie could start a new chapter of her life.

#16: Did You Know Everyones Older Now?

Various

And Just Like That has been on the receiving end of much unfair ageist criticism. Almost as if some fans forgot that, unlike the original series, the cast is no longer in their 30s or 40s. That being said, it really doesnt help that they like to remind audiences of this at any given opportunity. Did the writers just have a what do middle-aged women talk about brainstorm and select keywords? And also, how is it that some characters seemed to have aged so much more than others? We commend the show for defying showbizs youth-obsessed culture, but theres more to a person than how many trips theyve had around the sun. Yeah, people age; we get it.

#15: Brady & Luisa Need (Separate) Cold Showers

Various

Remember sweet little Brady from Sex and the City? Well, hes not so sweet anymore. Now, hes an amalgamation of almost every awful teen character cliché that the writers could think of. Hes obnoxious, messy, and bratty. To cap that all off: no ones parents want to hear their kids having sex. His girlfriend, Luisa, is no better. She acts all entitled, and shes pretty rude to Miranda and Steve, too. Theres no way that this grounded couple could have raised such an unpleasant kid. There are only so many times you can play the raging hormones and teen rebellion card before it gets tiresome. That being said, our hearts did go out to Brady after Luisa dumped him during their Europe trip.

#14: The Forced Introduction of New Characters

Various

The revival of Sex and the City promised to address some of the originals shortcomings. In fact, Cynthia Nixon told Elle that this was why she chose to return to the series. And sure, theres more diversity on camera and among the writers, yet it lacks authenticity. Instead, the new characters feel like they exist to tick a box, making them hard to watch. Theyre still just the supporting players, and even when their stories are being told, its from a white point of view. Things like this make us believe that this series should have stayed in the past where it belongs.

#13: Steve FINALLY Confronts Miranda

Bomb Cyclone

After Miranda cheated on Steve and ended their marriage, we felt like he deserved a more satisfying reckoning. And we thought he was finally about to get it in the season two episode Bomb Cyclone. During a disagreement over their living arrangement, Steve finally explodes. Sure, some of it was super harsh, but hed clearly harbored his resentment for a long time. However, as soon as she bursts into tears, somehow hes apologizing, and our eyes couldnt have rolled any harder. Later, she has the audacity to get annoyed at him after learning Steve has moved on. Hey, Miranda, you remember why your marriage broke up, right? At least Che is there to make it all better; oh wait

#12: Mirandas Beach Clean Up Kerfuffle

The Real Deal

Miranda and some other members of her AA group join an environmentalists beach clean-up effort. Sure, the beach looks cleaner, but Miranda ends up in quite a mess. She realizes shes lost her phone, and since her ride had to check out earlier, shes now stranded. Eventually, she comes across a group of beachgoers who let her borrow a phone. Ches reaction to the SOS call left us wide-eyed. Trust them to make Mirandas lousy luck all about them. We so wanted to shake Miranda until she woke up and noticed the major relationship red flag. At least Che is kind enough to send someone else to rescue her. And just like that Miranda learns that Che is married.

#11: Ches Ill-Timed Phone Calls

Met Cute & The Real Deal

Fans were split over Che and Mirandas relationship, and moments like this didnt win them any new fans. In Met Cute, Miranda struggles with a new accessory to help spice up her and Ches physical relationship. And well, when youre trying to get intimate, the last thing you probably want to hear is, [Can we move this along?] or for your significant other to take a phone call. Thought that was bad? In the following episode, Che answers a call to help them get a-head in their sitcom career while Miranda is, erm, doing the same in the bedroom. We dont know how Miranda was so blasé about the interruption, because we were mortified. Surely taking calls at such a time is a universal faux pas?

#10: The Whole Met Ball Storyline

Met Cute

After season one, many of us already felt that some of these characters and their stories were very out of touch. So, if the writers wanted to remedy that, we probably wouldnt have gone with the ostentatious Met Gala storyline to kick off season two. So many moments left us closing our eyes and exhaling that it was hard to pick just one offender. Theres that whole kerfuffle over whether or not Anthony gets to be someones plus one. How about Carrie using her Vivienne Westwood wedding dress yes, that one as a backup outfit for the event? And what about Charlotte and Lisa complaining about their poor, privileged lives? At least Anthony was there to call them out.

#9: Samantha Deserved Better

Hello It's Me

After learning that Kim Cattrall wouldnt be returning, fans were intrigued to see how the show would handle Samanthas absence. Needless to say, many of us were left unimpressed with what was done in Season 1. Nothing about their explanation suited the character we all know at all - like, do we really think Samantha is so fragile as to drop all her friends because of a professional interaction? Sidebar: why would Carrie need a PR rep on retainer ANYWAY? To add insult to injury, it often feels like theyre trying to make Anthony or even Seema the new Samantha. And, we simply arent buying it. When Willie Garson sadly passed away in September 2021, they used the moved abroad tactic to explain his absence as well. The notes he leaves Carrie and Anthony felt rather reminiscent of a certain infamous cringe-worthy post-it-note. These characters deserved better, as did we!

#8: Justice for Steve

Various

Look, we get it: aging is inevitable. But how is it that Steve seems to have aged so much more than everyone else? Not looks-wise, but everything else. Although granted, his hearing loss is reflective of David Eigenbergs real-life condition. But in general, Steves portrayed as a confused and awkward shell of his former self. While Mirandas going through a sexual awakening and struggling with substance use disorder, hes picking chia seeds out of his teeth. That certainly doesnt sound like the witty wise-cracker we remember. The writers responded to the backlash by insisting that they love Steve and his Steve-ness.

#7: Charlotte Tries to Diversify Her Circle

Some of My Best Friends

While planning a dinner party, Charlotte worries that cool mom Lisa Todd Wexley will be the only person of color there. Her solution? Forcibly try to befriend other people of color. She hounds her poor neighbor and even asks Anthony to help her get in touch with one of his black friends. The insensitive faux pas dont end there either. Charlotte commits the first blunder at Herberts birthday party by mistaking a guest for another black woman she knows. Meanwhile, Harry overcompensates for his awkwardness by embarrassingly name-dropping Black celebrities. It took all of our might not to cover our ears and hum loudly over the agonizing dialogue.

#6: Carrie Wakes up to Miranda & Che Getting It On

Tragically Hip

Fans were divided over whether or not Mirandas chemistry and subsequent affair with Che felt forced. But scenes like this werent exactly winning them any favors. Che visits Carrie, whos recuperating from surgery. But since shes fast asleep, Che and Miranda share a bottle of tequila in the kitchen. And just like that, things get rather intimate. This scene is one long, continuous cringe-fest, whether its Carrie catching her friend and boss going at it or the accident she has when theres no one to help her to the bathroom. Its one of those scenes where you want to look away, but you simply cant.

#5:Charlotte Tells Anthony About Rock

When in Rome

Sex and the City approached their LGBTQIA+ characters through a very heteronormative lens. But now, they had a second chance to get it right, or so we hoped. After Charlottes younger child tries to come out, Charlotte attempts to explain what happened to Anthony. We were left completely aghast by his dismissive attitude and recoiled in horror as he essentially told Charlotte to ignore it. Nothings worse than when he compares the situation to a six-year-old kid wanting to be a dog. This could have been such a poignant moment about acceptance for Charlotte and Rock. Instead, we were left wide-eyed by this totally tone-deaf conversation.

#4: Charlotte Goes from Sex-Positive to Sex Annoying

Bomb Cyclone

We were all taken by surprise when Lily announced her intentions to get intimate with her boyfriend for the first time. And we applaud the show for promoting sex positivity - but come on, none of us want to hear about this stuff from our parents. Were glad that Lily stopped Charlotte before we were forced to switch it off. That being said, that scene where Lily realizes she and her boyfriend dont have protection made us pinch the ends of our noses and wonder if perhaps shed cut off Charlottes safe sex talk too soon. And who sends their mom out in a blizzard like that? Charlottes commitment to her daughters well-being might be the only redeeming part of this plot.

#3: Miranda Hobbes: White Savior

Little Black Dress

Miranda was often the forward-thinking, outspoken advocate of the group. So we guess they wanted to show that anyone can misfire when it comes to the subject of race. Even so, that scene from her first day in class should be locked away in some vault to save us from the secondhand embarrassment. Pro tip: dont take a shot after every microaggression, because you wont make it out of the scene conscious. But even if we ignore that scene, wed still be left with her white savior complex. Surely, Miranda understands the difference between getting annoyed at a security guard, whos just asking for ID, and what to do when someone is getting mugged in front of you? Its very clear that these women have nothing in common, so their budding friendship feels painfully forced too.

#2: Did You Hear That the Shows Woke Now?

Various

As weve mentioned, Sex and the City had its problems. And Just Like That was here to prove that the series could get with the times. Only, it really couldnt. Rather than focus on a couple of social issues and really do them justice, they tried to tackle a bit of everything and fell short at almost every step. As if that isnt bad enough, much of the dialogue points at how woke the show thinks it's being. This was a major turnoff for many fans and had plenty of us facepalming throughout. Remember when your teacher would say show, dont tell? Well, this is why.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

#1: Che Just Che

Various

Sigh. Che symbolizes a lot of the shows pitfalls. Their introduction was lacking and their entire personality is steeped in tokenism. Their awful podcast voiced the shows most combative wokeism and its hard to forget that stand-up special. For a show that claims to be aware of the lack of representative non-binary characters in the media, And Just Like That does a pretty decent job of turning Che into a cringe-worthy caricature. They could have been such a positive force in Mirandas sexual awakening, rather than just. Then theres how they turned Miranda into the very thing she couldnt stand. Just imagine what impact they could have had on the coming-out journey of Charlottes youngest, too. Ches character had so much potential, but their scenes are just so hard to watch.

And Just Like That we want to know which moments made you cringe so hard, youd actually consider breaking up with this show on a Post-it. Let us know in the comments.
