Two is always better than one. Join Ashley as we count down our picks for the best Fusion Digimon across the Digimon franchise, as seen in series such as "Digimon Adventure", "Digimon Fusion", "Digimon Tamers", and more!

#20: Shoutmon X2

The appropriately-named first season of “Digimon Fusion” wasted no time living up to its title. After all, in terms of showing off what a DigiFuse can do, it’s hard to get better than Shoutmon X2. MadLeomon said it best himself. The rookie Shoutmon was too reckless, and Ballistamon was too slow. But, mash them together, and you’ve got an unstoppable mech that can punch any evildoer into the next zone. Even if they’re a fused MadLeomon. Oh, and did we mention that Shoutmon X2 can also DigiFuse its own weapons? Because it can, and it’s awesome. Mikey got some serious beginners with this one, that’s for sure.

#19: Shakkoumon

The combination of Angemon and Ankylomon wasn’t quite as well received as some of the others in the franchise, but when TK and Cody’s friends were in danger, Shakkoumon was the hero they needed. Resembling an ancient Dogu doll, this Digimon embodies both the heavenly and earth based elements of its combination, and has taken down some of the nastiest control spire digimon with its all-powerful justice beam. Perhaps most helpful of all, this digimon can absorb attacks and fire them right back at its opponent.

#18: DeckerGreymon

Just when we thought Chrisotpher’s lineup couldn’t get any cooler, this fusion came around and put the “metal” back in “MetalGreymon.” Well, not literally. The newly-fused DeckerGreymon loses that part of its name, but trust us, it’s just as cool, edgy, and explosive as its prior form. Mind you, this MetalGreymon was already a fusion to begin with. But, Deckerdramon chose to join Christopher’s squad for a reason, and this was it. With all their powers combined, the resulting DeckerGreymon can blast a hole straight through just about any mon that stands in its way. Evidently, for Digimon, there really is no such thing as too much firepower.

#17: Ruthless Tuwarmon Beast Mode

When it doubt, fuse it out. It worked in Ewan’s case. He cobbled together every Digimon he could find, and topped it all off with some energy from the Digital Underworld, too. Then, voila, out came the brand-spanking-new Ruthless Tuwarmon Beast Mode. Yeah, you know a digimon’s a big deal when they have to add the words “Beast Mode” to its official name. Although, if it’s fight with Mikey’s gang is any indication, that’s a very well deserved title. For a fusion that doesn’t stick around very long, Ewan’s corrupted partner sure leaves an impression. If only because it fused with enough Digimon to give even Shoutmon a run for his money.

#16: Paildramon

Math be damned, this scene makes a compelling argument that one is greater than two. Anyone who says otherwise isn’t looking at it the right way. See, Paildramon is more than just Stingmon plus ExVeemon. No, it’s also multiplied by Davis and Ken’s burgeoning friendship, including the latter’s redemption arc from his days as the Digimon Emperor. Plus, Paildramon has blasters that whip out from its belt. What’s not to love? To be fair, this wouldn’t be “Digimon 02’s” last fusion. It wouldn’t even be the last one involving Ken and Davis, either. But, still, it’s hard to top the emotional payoff of two former enemies finally working together.

#15: Xros Up Arresterdramon (Astamon)

In our book, giving Arresterdramon dual-wielding blasters is a surefire way to make an iconic evolution scene. But, it’s even better coming from a fusion with Ryoma’s Astamon. With the fate of Earth hanging in the balance, Tagiru and Ryoma finally put aside their differences and let their Digimon cut loose together. Boy, was it worth the wait. Let’s just say that a team-up of this magnitude deserved an equally grand debut, and that’s exactly what it got. But, the real cherry on top is who they’re fighting. As every Digifan knows, nothing takes down Infermon’s evolutionary line quite like a shiny, new fusion.

#14: Laylamon Combined

We’re just going to be honest and say… we’ll take any excuse to include Laylamon to our list. The digi-succubus already held great power, being one of the Generals of the Bagra army, but when the need for a little more came, she took a page out of Mikey’s book and combined with her comrades Blastmon and vilemon to create this…much more revealing form.

#13: Shoutmon X4

This is quite literally the fusion of Mikey’s dreams. And, as it turns out, dreams do come true. At least, they do when you have a digivice capable of DigiFuse. With four mons coming together Shoutmon X4 has just about everything. It’s rookie Shoutmon's gusto, Ballisatmon’s defense, and Dorulumon’s strength all in one. Then, just for good measure, it even gets a sword made of Starmon, too. The only real downside is that Shoutmon X4 works so fast, it’s hard to appreciate just how strong it really is. This isn’t the mon that starts fights, but take our word for it: Shoutmon X4 can sure as hell end them.

#12: Kimeramon

While not a fusion in the traditional sense, Kimeramon was instead an ultimate creature made by splicing the strongest parts of several different Digimon. Created in an attempt to gain total power, this beast instead ended up being too much for the Digimon emperor to handle, and began wreaking total destruction. Armed with a multitude of devastating abilities, including the unparalleled heat viper, Kimeramon’s introduction almost meant curtains for the Digi-destined… It’s unforeseen destruction even managed to open Ken’s eyes to the error of his ways.

#11: Silphymon

In respect to their personalities, Yolei and Kari couldn’t be more different. But, in order to overcome Arukenimon and the control spire digimon, they’d have to get on the same wavelength to DNA digivolve Gatomon and Aquilamon. And that’s just what they did when trapped inside the dark ocean with the threat of Blossomon. Silphymon proved a valuable asset to the team with its mastery of hand-to-hand combat and the long ranged “static force” technique. Like Shakkoumon, we would’ve liked to have seen a mega form for this digimon, but lets just be happy with what we got.

#10: Omnimon Alter-S

Omnimon has a nasty habit of stealing the show, and the 2020 series is no different. But, that doesn’t mean it showed up without any new tricks. When the same-old same-old wasn’t enough to finish off Negamon, the DigiDestined’s combined power unlocked a whole new kind of fusion. Suddenly, Omnimon wasn’t based on WarGreymon or MetalGarurumon anymore, but rather their alternate forms. Then, with new arm-cannons bearing the likeness of BlitzGreymon and CresGarurumon, Omnimon Alter-S showed Negamon why he’s the fusion to beat. For a Digimon who’s had as many appearances as Omnimon, it’s a testament to Alter-S that this fight completely lives up to its legacy.

#9: MegaDarknessBagramon

If you love something, set it free. Or, if you’re like Lord Bagra, absorb it for all its worth and then toss it to the side. Poor AxeKnightmon was nothing more than a glorified battery pack for MegaDarknessBagramon. Don’t forget, AxeKnightmon was Lord Bagra’s brother, too. Talk about a messy family dynamic. At the very least, it paid off with a distinctly imposing new form for the season’s main villain. Not only did he look scary, but MegaDarknessBagramon very nearly succeeded in destroying the entire human world. It’s a badge of honor that it took yet another insane fusion to bring him down for good.

#8: Gallantmon Crimson Mode

Biomerge, step aside. There’s a new kind of fusion on the block, and this one is 100% digital. Gallantmon gave Grani life, so it’s poetic that Grani returned the favor during humanity’s darkest hour. At the cost of its own existence, the scarlet steed fused its own power with Gallantmon’s, unlocking the uber-powerful Crimson Mode. In a roundabout way, Grani’s sacrifice is what ended up defeating the D-Reaper, and saving all of humanity. If you ask us, that’s a pretty good note to end on. While Gallantmon Crimson Mode gets most of the credit, no amount of praise can overshadow the fact that this wasn’t a one-mon job.

#7: Ordinemon

After the bombshell of Tai’s fate at the end of Digimon Tri: Co-existence, Kari was left inconsolable. So much so, that her fractured psyche led her partner digimon, Gatomon to combine with the already manic Meicoomon…and the result was not pretty. In an image that conjures up memories of end of evangelion, Ordinemon was awakened – and it possessed a scale and strength unlike anything we’d seen before in the franchise. With odds like these against them, The digi-destined will have to dig deep to find a way out of this one.

#6: Shoutmon DX

Part OmniShoutmon, part ZekeGreymon, and part scene-stealing digivolution, this is the kind of pairing that represents fusion at its finest. Given this season’s name, that’s a pretty high bar, too. But, despite those expectations, the long-awaited team-up between Mikey and Christopher goes for the gold in more ways than one. It definitely walked home with a medal, that’s for sure. Shoutmon DX has everything that makes its two halves cool, but simply more of it. It’s empowering, it’s stylish, and it can rip apart villains like nobody’s business. Although, from the combination of two of the season’s strongest Digimon, we shouldn’t have expected anything less.

#5: Omnimon Merciful Mode

The combination of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon is a not-so-subtle metaphor for Matt and Tai’s bond across the original “Adventure.” So, naturally, “Tri” let all the other DigiDestined get in on the fun, too. But, Merciful Mode is so much more than the sum of its parts. These eight Digimon represented just how far the franchise had come over the years. As a result, Merciful Mode feels like a celebration of the original cast in a way no other transformation may ever be able to replicate. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Omnimon christens its new form with a jaw-dropping fight, too. Old habits die hard, after all.

#4: Susanoomon

Lucemon was shaping up to be the most unstoppable threat to the digital world in any incarnation of the series. The only way Takuya and Koji could stand a chance was by combining their strengths as Agunimon and Lobomon, as well as the other spirits, to achieve this incredible form. Armed with the ZERO-ARMS: Orochi, and the backed by their friend encouragement, this new stage leveled the playing field, allowing them to drag Lucemon back by the tail.

#3: Shoutmon X7 Superior Mode

Impressed with the fusion of 2 digimon? Well don’t look now because Shoutmon utterly eclipses that with a fusion of ALMOST EVERY DIGIMON EVER. Fans were in awe at the size of this absolute unit, as he combined to a form whos power was unmatched – even taking down the might of Bagramon in his most powerful form. By rallying together all the digimon in the world, Shoutmon proved himself a viable contender for the title of “King of the digital world”.

#2: Imperialdramon (Fighter Mode)

Once enemies, now friends, the team of Davis and Ken would have to find common ground to defeat the evil digimon, and thus Paildramon was born. But when that wasn’t enough, the team would ascend even further creating imperialdramon who, when in its fighter mode, was the digi-destined’s best hope in their battles against the likes of malomyotismon and blackwargreymon. Imperialdramon made a habit of scaling its ability ever since, transforming into paladin mode to finally put a stop to Armageddemon…proving himself as one of the most valuable assets to the team. Just be glad he wasn’t combined with Omnimon. That Paladin Mode is no joke.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

JetMervamon

GrandGeneramon

NeoMyotismon Darkness Mode One

#1: Omnimon

You just can’t beat the OG. Combining the mega-level Digimon WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, Omnimon represented not only the friendship of Tai and Matt, but also the hopes of children around the world witnessing the battle against Diaboromon. Armed with the transended sword and supreme cannon, this DNA digivolution made quick work of its enemies, and has served as the Digidestined’s ace in the hole. Many Digimon fusions have come since, but Omnimon remains the undisputed king.
