Top 10 Video Game Sidekicks

Top 10 Video Game Sidekicks
VOICE OVER: David
The heroes always get the glory, but they couldn't always make it to the final boss without the help of loyal friends! They help us solve puzzles, lighten the mood, cure wounds and defeat enemies in combat. Without sidekicks games would be darker, harder, and wouldn't have any silly moments. While not all gaming companions are playable characters, many helped break the feeling of isolation and became the greatest part of the adventure. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we countdown the Top 10 sidekicks of gaming.

Number 10: Jerome “Doc” Louis (Punch-Out Series)

Starting off our countdown is the coach that trained Little Mac to become the greatest boxer the 8-bit generation has ever seen. Not just riding his bike beside you while you trained, he was ringside when you fought countless ethnic stereotypes and a circus clown. Heck, he even saw you through your glorious defeat of Mike Tyson!

Number 9: Daxter (Jak and Daxter Series)

Jak’s best friend, the co-star of the long-running franchise was transformed into an Ottsel when he fell into a vat of Dark Eco. A cowardly mix of weasel and otter, he’s not just one of the funniest sidekicks in gaming history, but he’s also useful in a fight. He even landed himself his own gaming adventure for the PSP.

Number 8: Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong Country Series)

Mysteriously trapped in barrels throughout Donkey Kong’s adventure, he could be freed to play alongside the big ape. Packing a jetpack and the ability to ride the king of swing, Diddy isn’t just a useful ally, but equally banana crazy bundle of fur.

Number 7: Clank (Ratchet and Clank Series)

This robot companion not only packs a never-ending supply of useful gadgets, but a ton of witty quips. An ever-helpful, and adorable machine with a British Accent, Clank is the video game equivalent of a Swiss Army knife.

Number 6: Weighted Companion Cube (Portal)

The only inanimate object on this list, this metal crate with pink hearts became your only friend in a test lab designed to kill you. Not only useful for triggering switches, the companion cube was forced to pay the ultimate sacrifice when you had to incinerate it to finish the game. Just admit it, you cried too.

Number 5: Rush (Megaman Series)

He’s a robotic dog that can transform into useful items like a hover board, jump coil, submarine and a racecar! Your companion through countless robotic battles, it’s easy to see why this pooch is Megaman’s best friend.

Number 4: Cortana (Halo Series)

Not only is she a super sexy artificial intelligence and hologram, but she also attaches to the Master Chief’s helmet to provide him with useful information and commentary. While she started out as nothing more than a cheerleader, she eventually provided much needed exposition and humor to the franchise.

Number 3: Navi (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

Not just the tiniest sidekick of all time, this fairy guided players on their quest through the greatest action RPG ever created! While her constant pleas for attention and to watch out or look at things did make you want to swat her from time to time, she never interfered with the action.

Number 2: Dominic Santiago (Gears of War Trilogy)

A fellow soldier in the Coalition of Ordered Governments, he is Marcus Fenix’s best friend and closest ally on the battlefield. Loyal to the end, this brother in arms always has your back and is willing to fight his way into hell for you.

Number 1: Yoshi and Luigi (Mario Series)

Rounding out our Top 10 list is the duo that makes up Super Mario’s entourage. These include his Dino Pal Yoshi, who he’s ridden through several console generations, and his trusty brother Luigi.

Despite being green with envy towards Mario, and being a bit of a coward, Luigi’s just as capable as his brother, and even took on several adventures to rescue Mario when he was captured by Bowser (Editor’s note: Mario is Missing) and King Boo.
