Sunnydale is also demolished in the process, with our surviving heroes narrowly escaping. Surrounded by her allies, Buffy’s journey ends on the most triumphant note possible. At the same time, the door is still left open to further adventures.

The slayer is caught off guard, however, when Willow restores Angel’s soul. If she had performed the restoration spell only a few minutes earlier, this might’ve been a happy ending. Since Acathla has been awakened, Angel’s blood must be spilled to save the world. Accepting what she must do, Buffy kisses the confused Angel and stabs him with a sword.
