#10: Which Other “How I Met Your Mother” Characters Might’ve Made Appearances?
One of our favorite parts of the “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off is how seamlessly it exists in the same universe as its predecessor. Fans of the original could get a thrill from catching up with familiar faces like Becky and the Captain, Carl the Bartender, Sandy Rivers, and Robin Scherbatsky. We also had an… electric reunion with a somewhat reformed Barney Stinson. Sure, Lily and Marshall get a shoutout of sorts in the pilot, but we have questions about their life since the original series wrapped up. And what about Ted and Tracy? This could’ve been a great opportunity to learn more about the mother of Ted’s children. Or at least afford viewers more time with her.

Ellen and Rachel don’t meet in a conventional manner, to say the least. Still, they end up dating and are an item for much of season two. We loved their quirky vibes and how well-suited they seemed to be to one another. So, we were almost as heartbroken as Ellen to learn that Rachel was willing to move to New Jersey just to get some space from the relationship. It turns out that they’re not as on the same page as they thought, which leads to their break up. But is this it for good? We had hoped that maybe after some time, distance, and perspective, they’d get back together or at least become good friends. Justice for Rellen!

At the end of season one, Ellen interviews for a job at Goliath Market. Goliath? Now, where have we heard that name before? Well, Ellen starts working for them, as does Sophie later on. As we learn, Goliath is a major corporation that delves into everything from loans to lettuce— which raises more questions than it answers. In an interview with TV Line, co-writer Isaac Aptaker suggested that there was a lot more to explore here, saying, “Obviously, nothing we do in that respect is accidental.” Does that mean more cameos? More details about the corporation? More work-focused storylines? Mr. Aptaker, if you’re listening, we’d like some answers, Please.
#7: When Does Charlie Have a Change of Heart about Fatherhood?
Although Valentina and Charlie’s started as a whirlwind London romance, there’s no denying there’s something real between them. Sadly, they break up at the end of the first season after Charlie reveals he doesn’t see parenthood in his future. In season two, he makes it clear that his feelings have not changed. Yet, the season finale reveals that he and Valentina eventually have a son. So, what made him change his mind? Does he realize he loves Val too much to let his past get between them? Does she help him understand that he doesn’t have to repeat his mother’s mistakes? Or perhaps fatherhood came unexpectedly? Either way, they make a cute family.
#6: Were Things Going to Heat up between Sophie & Sid?
When we last left the gang, Sophie and Jesse had just gotten back together. But, raise your hand if you’re more of a Sophie and Sid shipper— you’re not alone. Heck, even Hannah clearly picked up on some sparks between them. Yes, they had a lot of chemistry and were both hopeless romantics. Also, in the pilot, Sophie’s phone got mixed with Sid’s, not Jesse’s— sounds like a meet-cute to us! But since Sid and Hannah were together, we thought we might just be grasping at straws. Well, that all changed in the season two finale. Maybe season three would’ve seen Sid turn to Sophie for comfort after his breakup, but find something more.

Sophie and Jesse are clearly set up to be the Ted and Robin of the spin-off series. Like their predecessors, they struggled with timing and premature declarations of love. Also, like Ted and Robin, it took some bad weather to ultimately get them together. So this begs the question: what’s next for them? Are they in it for the long haul? How many times would we have seen them go from off-again to on-again? And is he the man Sophie ends up with, even if he isn’t the father? Despite their undeniable chemistry, their relationship was often a hot mess. We’re sure that watching them try and work through it would’ve been very entertaining.
#4: Are Sid & Hannah over for Good?

Sid and Hannah get engaged in the pilot episode, and by the season finale, they’re married. Yet, something told us that their vows wouldn’t last forever. Indeed, in the season two finale, it’s implied that they separate. Long distance takes its toll on the relationship, leading Sid to re-evaluate whether or not the pair have a future together. But since nothing’s explicitly said, we don’t definitively know their relationship status. Are they broken up, or perhaps just on a break? The devastated look on Sid’s face suggests the former. But does that mean Hannah’s out of the picture for good? And, if so, could he have potentially rekindled things with Taylor?
#3: Was the Ending Headed in a Similar Direction as the Original Series?
To say that the “How I Met Your Mother” finale was divisive would be a colossal understatement. Many of us hoped that the spin-off’s writing team had taken notes to avoid the same pitfalls— but what if they hadn’t? The original series brilliantly dropped hints about the mother’s fate that many of us didn’t even notice on first watch. But, like this TikTok user, we learned to keep our eyes peeled for any hints from choice of music to implicit dialogue and any other subtle background details. Succumbing Jesse to the same fate as the mother seems controversial. We certainly have mixed feelings about this one, but the evidence is pretty compelling.

Unfortunately, she loses her perfect photo when a taxi drives off with it. But it’s hanging in future Sophie’s apartment, so what’s the deal? Did she manage to flag the driver down? Did it turn up in lost and found? Maybe she tracked down its next owners? Future Sophie promised us answers, and we want to hear this story. How could they do this to us?! The most pivotal question in the series, and they just leave us hanging?? In the pilot, we learn that Sophie meets the father of her child on the same night Sid and Hannah get engaged. Now, we all have our theories. Is it too obvious if it’s Jesse? Are Sophie and Charlie really going to hook up? Does Sophie finally get her chance with Ian? Will Sid and Sophie have a ‘thing’? And are there any other potential fathers we were yet to meet?
