Top 10 Times Peacemaker Roasted Pop Culture

#10: Tiger King
This is a real blink and you’ll miss it moment, which is to be expected given how it's an off-kilter comment while Peacemaker is in the middle of rationalising why he’s keeping a deadly alien butterfly alive in his home. Despite knowing how dangerous the likes of Goff and her intergalactic scourge are, Peacemaker can’t seem to toss them away. When questioned by Vigilante for his unexpected show of mercy, he comments that it might stem from a sense of insecurity…like a certain individual in Georgia who owns a tiger. This is a clear dig at Joe Exotic, the face of the Netflix documentary Tiger King, whose exploits as a zookeeper led to a messy end for all parties involved.
#9: Thirty Seconds to Mars
Following a day of rejection and subsequent unemployment, both Harcourt and Peacemaker try to make light of the whole situation, blaming the former’s outburst and bloodied hand on her dashboard’s poor attitude and terrible taste in music…including Thirty Seconds to Mars. It might seem like a throwaway line but if you sit and think about it - it's a triple threat, Given frontman Jared Leto’s dubious history as the DCEU’s Joker, we’re not sure if the show is taking shots at the band’s divisive music, the actor’s admittedly awful portrayal of the character, or the man himself given his less than stellar reputation. No matter how you slice it, it’s a low-key, nuclear burn.
#8: Louis C.K
For the longest time, Louis C.K was on the Mount Rushmore of modern-day comedians. Insightful, funny and approachable. Until he wasn’t. Allegations eventually arose regarding multiple cases of sexual misconduct, tarnishing his reputation forever and sending his career into a spiral. Turns out Vigilante may not have gotten the memo, as his long-awaited reunion with Peacemaker turns into a confusing argument over C.K’s actions, all stemming from the assumption that Vigilante is secretly trying to show off his junk. Quite the introduction to the show’s second-biggest bromance.
#7: Peacemaker vs. The Music Industry
Music is an integral aspect of Peacemaker’s identity – both the character and the show. Throughout his battle against the butterflies, we learn how much Peacemaker adores the classics of glam metal. Other genres, not so much. You can feel the reverence he has for the likes of The Quireboys, Hanoi Rocks, Foxy Shazam, Sister Sin and several others. Though the show certainly isn’t afraid to lovingly mock them too. As for the modern day music industry itself, that gets a pretty scathing review.
#6: Sloth from the Goonies
We’re passing the baton over to Vigilante for this one, since it’s impossible not to discuss his epic take down of Auggie Smith and his Third Reich loving cronies. In an attempt to rile up the white supremacists and stage a prison brawl, Vigilante lays down one hell of a verbal beatdown. Not only stating how integral black people were to the creation and evolution of rock and roll, but also describing the Neo-Nazis as tiki-torch wielding Sloths from the Goonies. Lambasting the actual participants of the far-right rally in Charlottesville while comparing them to the objectively hideous character from the beloved film is one hell of a combo.
#5: Bronies
As you might expect, Peacemaker makes more than a few quips at some of the more iconic characters of the DC Universe, including Green Arrow. While discussing a plan to retrieve the Sonic Boom Helmet in order to destroy the butterflies’ food source, the emerald archer ends up catching a few strays when Peacemaker inexplicably calls him a Brony. If that wasn’t enough of a zing, he doubles down by saying that his cosplay of choice involves acting as the back half of My Little Pony’s lead heroine. Now that would have made for one hell of an Arrowverse episode.
#4: Misinformation
Peacemaker may be incredibly skilled at dispensing justice and death in equal measure, but he’s also a tad gullible when it comes to the slop that the internet produces. While riffing on Superman and his apparent faecal fetish, Peacemaker is finally called out for making up these endlessly idiotic statements. His excuse? Google. It might seem out of touch but given the world we live in and how even the most obviously faked stories seem to be taken at face value by certain groups…actually, maybe it’s not so preposterous after all. Still, Chris might want to stay off the net for a while.
#3: Aquaman’s Fishy Dalliances
No superhero had a rougher time of it during season one than Aquaman, on account of Peacemaker’s continued insistence that the King of Atlantis likes to get down and dirty with the denizens of the sea. And we’re not talking about mermaids here. The jokes are non-stop, made all the worse by everyone seemingly believing it. This is all capped off by Aquaman showing up at the end of the final episode and getting one last zinger for his trouble. Come on guys, we all know the Deep is the one who likes to get freaky with fish.
#2: Batman’s One Rule
Batman’s refusal to kill is one of his most defining traits, but also a subject of controversy. Is he responsible for further deaths when the villains he puts away inevitably break free? Peacemaker seems to think so. After getting into an argument with an elderly neighbour, Peacemaker goes ballistic as he dismantles Batman’s credibility, painting him as a coward who has done more harm than good. Whether you think there’s any validity to his argument or not, the way it's framed here is hilarious, and more than anything has us begging for an eventual clash between both the Dark Knight and the Freedom-Living Idiot.
#1: The List
The off-the-cuff spiel that became legendary overnight. While grilling Economos over sending his father to prison for a crime he didn’t technically commit, Peacemaker proceeds to unleash a series of alternative choices that could have taken his place. These range from celebrities, both alive and dead, fictional characters, controversial figures, former convicts, even James Gunn himself. It’s a rapid-fire rhapsody that makes fun of countless individuals in the pop culture sphere, and we can’t get enough of it! Here’s hoping this kind of breakdown is mirrored in season two!
