#10: Ireland Baldwin Speaks About Her Dad’s Voicemail

In April 2007, a voicemail Alec Baldwin left for his then-11-year-old daughter Ireland leaked to TMZ and broke the internet before breaking was a thing. In the recording, Alec reportedly called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig” and threatened to fly to Los Angeles to “straighten her out.” This happened during a bitter custody battle with her mother, Kim Basinger. The world was outraged. Alec issued a public apology, blaming what he described as years of parental alienation. For her part, Ireland later acknowledged the situation but said people made it a way bigger deal than it was. She then credited her stepmother Hilaria Baldwin for helping repair her relationship with her dad. It was indeed a chaotic and complicated incident that leaked family moments.

#9: Dakota Johnson Calls Out Her Mother for Oversharing

Clearly, Dakota Johnson doesn’t love social media that much and she'd like to keep it that way. The problem? Her mother, Melanie Griffith, absolutely does. During a 2022 appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” Dakota revealed that Griffith regularly shares childhood photos of her on Instagram without asking. She said she was always blindsided by the unexpected reveals, recalling being told about such posts after they had already gone viral. Johnson also jokingly described confronting her mother over it, insisting they’ve had the conversation many times. The “Fifty Shades” star's tone kept it light, but the message was clear: even famous moms need to learn about consent before hitting the share button.

#8: North West Pushed Back on Her Mom’s Recording

Being Kardashian means growing up on camera—and North West has reportedly made it known she's not always here for it. Over the years, clips have shown her reacting uncomfortably to being filmed. In one moment in August 2022, while North and Kim Kardashian were singing along to “Versace on the Floor,” she appears to ask Kim to stop recording. This isn't the only time a Kardashian kid pushed back. Penelope Disick reportedly called out her father, Scott Disick, for his pattern of dating younger women on “The Kardashian’s” in 2023. For a family built on visibility, it’s become increasingly clear that even the kids are starting to set the rules.

#7: Alabama & Landon Barker Blast Their Mom

When Alabama Barker spoke about her mother Shanna Moakler, she wasn’t subtle, she put it on TikTok. In May 2021, the then-15-year-old posted a lip-sync to Kehlani's “The Letter.. Then she added a direct statement saying her mom has never completely been in her life and pushed back against her positive portrayals online. Her brother Landon backed her up, echoing similar sentiments on social media. He suggested that their mother has always been distant while highlighting their relationship with their father, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Moakler denied the claims, calling them “completely ridiculous.” Alabama's response? Another TikTok, reinforcing that she has had cut off parts of her family. The whole exchange played out publicly, and to date, their relationship remains fractured.

#6: Lourdes Leon Calls Madonna a Control Freak

It appears that Lourdes Leon didn't come to her interview to play nice. In her 2021 sit-down with Interview magazine, Madonna's eldest daughter opened up about a childhood defined not by pop-star glamor but by strict rules. She described an upbringing built on self-reliance rather than handouts, and a mother who she claimed locked her closets when she left the house. Lourdes even called her mother a control freak who dominated her all her life, adding that she paid her own college tuition and rent after high school. She didn’t frame it as resentment; but as a reality that forced her to become independent early. Lourdes made one thing clear though: it wasn’t easy growing up under one of pop culture’s biggest names.

#5: Lily Collins Writes a Letter to Her Father

Most people process complicated feelings about their parents in private. Lily Collins did it in a published memoir. In her 2017 book, the “Emily in Paris” star wrote a raw, open letter to her father, Genesis drummer Phil Collins, addressing years of emotional distance. According to her, the absence wasn't just about touring. When her parents divorced and Lily moved to Los Angeles with her mother, Phil remained in London, leaving her on a different continent during some of her most formative years. She wrote that she feared expressing her feelings and that she never wanted to do anything that would make him stay away even longer. It was a deeply personal reflection and forgiveness wrapped in one—and she published it!

#4: Vivian Wilson Publicly Criticizes Elon Musk

In June 2022, Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk's transgender daughter, filed a legal petition in Los Angeles to change her name and gender marker. She also stated in court documents that she no longer wished to be associated with her biological father in any way, shape, or form. Two years later, she broke her silence publicly. In an NBC News interview, she reportedly described Musk as an emotionally distant father who was critical of her gender identity from a young age. Musk had claimed he was “tricked” into consenting to her medical treatment; an account that Vivian rejected entirely. Musk’s influential status made the situation highly publicized, and it appears they won’t be making up anytime soon.

#3: Miley Cyrus Claims Her Dad was Absent

Miley Cyrus grew up inside one of Disney's biggest franchises, a “tightly managed entertainment machine” by her own description. As the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, her childhood was spent on set, in press junkets, and under public scrutiny before she was even a teenager. In earlier interviews, she reflected on how little personal freedom she had during the “Hannah Montana” period, describing it as a structured system where image management often came first. She publicly hinted at a complicated relationship with her dad, claiming that she inherited his narcissism. The tension between them reportedly followed her into adulthood. But over time, she’s rebuilt her identity outside the system and reconciled with her father after years of estrangement.

#2: Brooklyn Beckham Shreds His Family

For years, Brooklyn Beckham's pushback against the weight of his surname was relatively polite. There was the odd interview about carving his own path, changing careers, finding himself outside football and fashion. Then in early 2026, he dropped a statement on Instagram stories that changed the conversation entirely. Brooklyn alleged that his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, have repeatedly tried to sabotage his relationship and wedding to Nicola Peltz. He expressed frustrations about the family tensions and feeling controlled by the Beckham brand while stating that reconciliation is currently not on the table. David and Victoria have remained publicly silent on the matter. The Beckham name, flawlessly managed for decades, had never looked quite so complicated.

#1: Christina Crawford’s Memoir Exposes Her Mom

Before celebrity exposés were a genre, Christina Crawford wrote the one that set the template. “Mommie Dearest” was published in 1978, one year after the death of her adoptive mother, Oscar-winning actress Joan Crawford. The memoir alleged physical and emotional abuse by her mother. Joan was known for films like “Mildred Pierce” and a public reputation built on elegance and control. But Christina's memoir shattered that image entirely, revealing what happened behind the closed doors of one of Hollywood's most glamorous households. The book became a bestseller and was later adapted into a 1981 film starring Faye Dunaway. The claims have been contested by some of Crawford's friends and surviving family. Still, it remains a classic example of a celebrity child criticizing their parents.
