Hailee Steinfeld stars as Nadine in this coming-of-age film about an awkward teen whose life falls apart when her brother starts dating her best friend. The film received rave reviews at its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and is said to be joining the ranks of teen classics like Mean Girls, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and Clueless. Funny, relatable, and oh so awkward, this heartwarming tale perfectly captures what goes through every 17 year old’s head. With a loveable cast rounded out by Kyra Sedgwick as Nadine’s ineffective mother and Woody Harrelson as Nadine’s sarcastic mentor and history teacher, The Edge of Seventeen looks like it might just be the hidden gem of the fall movie season.

Director Jeff Nichols's latest flick tells the story of the U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision in Loving v. Virginia, in which state laws prohibiting interracial marriage were overturned. Produced by Colin Firth and starring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga in lead roles, this powerful historical drama is sure to resonate with an audience that has lived through recent events in the United States, namely the Black Lives Matter movement. The film received positive reviews from Cannes and TIFF and has received ample Oscar buzz since.

#8: “Starboy” by The Weeknd Release Date: November 25, 2016

This Canadian R&B sensation is back with his third studio album, Starboy. Set to be released on November 25th, Starboy marks The Weeknd’s first album sans his signature hair. Lucky for us, it doesn’t seem that the hair is affecting his music. The first single titled “Starboy”, in which he collaborated with French electronic duo Daft Punk, was released in late September to praise by critics. If that’s any indication of what’s to come on his 18-track mystery album, we have a whole lot to look forward to. Get ready to get your groove on to the sweet falsetto of Toronto’s own, The Weeknd.

#7: “Heartless” by Marissa Meyer Release Date: November 8, 2016

Known for her young adult fairy tale-inspired bestselling series The Lunar Chronicles, Marissa Meyer is back putting pen to paper for the release of her fifth novel. This time, Meyer will tell the story of Alice in Wonderland’s evil villain, the Queen of Hearts. According to her book, the Queen of Hearts aka Catherine, was just a girl who fell in love with a baker, someone her parents greatly disapproved of. In this classic tale of star-crossed lovers, Meyer will provide a riveting backstory to one of the most fearsome characters in the history of fantasy.

Renowned screenwriter and playwright, Peter Morgan, has returned to give viewers yet another rich historical drama. His latest series titled “The Crown” is set to release its first season to Netflix on November 4th, following the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her marriage in 1947 up until the present day. British heartthrob Matt Smith has landed the title role of Prince Philip, alongside the always-lovely Claire Foy as a young Queen Elizabeth II. Prepare for royal scandal, royal intrigue, and of course, royal romance over the course of ten one-hour long episodes. Looks like a healthy day of binge watching is in order!

#5: “Arrival” Release Date: November 11, 2016 [U.S.]

The much-anticipated sci-fi thriller directed by Quebec-native Denis Villeneuve is set to hit theatres this month. When several unknown spacecrafts touch down on Earth, chaos ensues and an elite team is brought together to save mankind from the brink of war. Sounds pretty epic, doesn’t it? The film has already received awards show buzz thanks to its incredible cast of A-list actors, lead by Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. It appears the public’s love of space movies isn’t going anywhere.

#4: “Moana” Release Date: November 23, 2016 [U.S.]

After the unadulterated success of Zootopia, Disney hopes to have another hit on their hands with their latest musical flick. This one tells the tale of a Polynesian princess who embarks on a guest with the help of a demi-god, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, and an adorable pet pig. With music written and performed by Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of the smash Broadway hit “Hamilton”, it’s safe to say that at least the music is going to be pretty great. Here’s hoping we have a new Frozen on our hands!

#3: “44th Annual American Music Awards” Release Date: November 20, 2016

The AMAs are back for yet another year in a row, bringing you the best in music. With our favourite artists vying for the top honor of Artist of the Year, this year’s show is sure to be one to remember. As per usual, the awards ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theatre in LA and with so many incredible releases this past year, the biggest names in the business are guaranteed to be at the 2016 show on November 20th. While Drake looks to be the show’s frontrunner with a whopping 13 nominations, we bet there will be more than a few upset at American music’s big night.

#2: “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life” Release Date: November 25, 2016

The Gilmore Girls are back for the much-anticipated Netflix revival. Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel will be reprising their title roles as Lorelai and Rory, the best mother-daughter duo in tv history. Fittingly titled A Year In The Life, the reboot will feature four 90 minute long episodes, each centered on one of the four seasons. Whether you’re dying to know whom Rory will end up with or you’ve just missed Kirk’s hilarious antics, writer-creator Amy Sherman Palladino’s signature witty banter will resume on November 25th. Get the pop tarts ready.

David Yates, director of the final four Harry Potter films, invites us once again to enter J.K. Rowling’s magical world of wizards, muggles, hippogriffs, and chocolate frogs. Starring Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne as eccentric wizard Newt Scamander, the film follows Scamander and his journey to the Magical Congress of the United States of America. Though this film is set nearly 70 years before the Harry Potter series, it is sure to bring back some powerful emotions for all the Harry Potter fans out there.
