Top 10 Things We Want to See in GTA VI

Please Rockstar, make our dreams come true. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top ten things we want to see in GTA 6.

For this list, we’ll be counting down the gameplay elements and additions that we would like to see make it into the next major “Grand Theft Auto” instalment.

#10: Battleground Mode in Online

While “GTA Online” was ambitious, it lacked some gameplay variety. The online portion only contains up to 30 players (if the servers can even manage that), and most of the time it just devolves into someone total anarchy. “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” has since been released and has demonstrated how you do large-scale multiplayer correctly, with up to 100 people battling it out on a massive map which gets progressively smaller to discourage camping. This sort of multiplayer mode on GTA’s massive and detailed map would be extraordinary, and could be the next big leap for the series’ large online community.

#9: Deeper Connections to Previous GTA Titles

While we don’t necessarily need a GTA Extended Universe with characters popping in and out of each other’s games and setting up large-scale plot points for later titles, some deeper connections to each other would be great. In the past, all we’ve ever received were Easter eggs or throwaway mentions of past characters, but wouldn’t it be even better if a past protagonist showed up for a mission or two? It would be a welcome treat for fans, and would give our favourite characters another chance to shine.

#8: Single Player DLC

Rockstar absolutely rocked the DLC for “GTA IV,” with both “The Lost and Damned” and “The Ballad of Gay Tony” being released over a year and offering substantial campaigns. This streak looked to continue with “Grand Theft Auto V,” but as we all know, no single player DLC ever saw the light of day. This infuriated many gamers, with critics calling out Rockstar for focusing more on the online portion and not even addressing the lack of campaign DLC. If Rockstar doesn’t wish to upset even more customers, we hope to see a return of story DLC for the sixth installment.

#7: Bring Back Celebrities

A huge bragging right for the “Grand Theft Auto” series used to be its incredible casts. Numerous big names have lent Rockstar their voices over the years, including Ray Liotta, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Chris Penn, Phil Collins, and even Samuel L. Jackson, just to name a few. While recent casts have undoubtedly been spectacular (hell, GTA V made Steven Ogg a star), they’ve been missing the big names which always warranted a “Hey, it’s that guy!” Sure, a few celebrities have played themselves in recent iterations like Ricky Gervais and Lazlow, but it’s just not the same.

#6: Destructible Environments

We know we may be asking a lot here, but seriously, how crazy would destructible environments be in the world of GTA? While we don’t need entire skyscrapers crumbling to dust a la “Battlefield,” some level of destructibility would be a welcomed addition. Imagine destroying enemy cover with an RPG, or blowing a column and sending the roof crashing down. It would be insane amounts of fun, and it would further enhance the already fantastic sense of immersion, and add an interesting new layer to the cover-based third-person combat.

#5: Official Mod Support

PC gaming and modding go together like spaghetti and meatballs. “Grand Theft Auto” has been the subject of some fantastic mods, like fire-breathing cats and Zombie Invasion, but they’ve all been created and launched through third party applications. Many developers and games have implemented official mod support in recent years, including “Fallout 4” and “The Witcher 3,” and the games have only gotten better because of it. However, Rockstar hasn’t released official editing tools, and Take-Two even sent a cease and desists to OpenIV, a popular modding platform. The case was soon abandoned, due in large part to fan backlash. Come on guys, your games are ripe for modding, please just make it official already!

#4: Less Filler Missions

The latest “Grand Theft Auto” games have been expansive works of art, and their campaigns have been ambitious projects in and of themselves. It’s too bad that they keep populating some missions with needless filler. “Grand Theft Auto V” had numerous filler sequences, like being forced to do yoga, working on the docks, or mopping the floors of an office building. We guess you could argue that it builds tension and helps with immersion, but it’s just not – you know – fun. Tighter, more concise missions would be ideal for future releases.

#3: More Interiors

While the cities of GTA are massive, dense, and incredibly detailed, this seems only to apply to the exteriors. Interiors have always been severely lacking in the series, and it kind of makes the worlds seem like empty shells. While you could enter a few buildings, like player homes or shops, 99% of structures seemingly have reinforced concrete entrances, because ain’t nobody getting through them. While we’re not asking for literally every building to be open for exploration, more than the usual set of repeated interiors would be nice.

#2: A Female Playable Character

Since GTA’s inception, all of the playable characters have been male. While many have gone on to become gaming icons, a little more diversity would be refreshing. If Rockstar continues with the multiple characters approach (and we think they should), we could get the best of both worlds, as even one playable female would be appreciated. The “Grand Theft Auto” series attracts tens of millions of players and reaches a diverse range of gamers, so isn’t it about time that a female protagonist got in on the action?

Before we look at our top pick, here is an honorable mention.

Ability to Be Completely Naked

#1: A New City

Is it just us, or is anyone else getting a little sick of New York and California? The GTA series loves to remain loyal to its creations, as we’ve had numerous iterations of San Andreas, Liberty City, and Vice City. While these cities are gorgeous, we think it’s about time that the series went elsewhere: maybe Tokyo, or Tijuana & San Diego... heck, already have a list of cities we want to see in our: 'Top 10 Cities We'd Love to See Parodied in Grand Theft Auto' list. Even if we have to stay in the States, there are a ton of interesting cities, which could be explored, and Rockstar should take advantage of that fact. We want to explore somewhere we have never been, and we’re sure we’re not the only ones.
