10 Surprising Celebrity Polyamorous Relationships
#10: Derrick Barry
The beloved Britney Spears impersonator and “RuPaul's Drag Race” alum is famously in a throuple with visual artist Nick San Pedro and drag queen Mackenzie Claude a.k.a Nebraska. They’ve been together for years, and Barry never misses a chance to gush over his partners, whom he calls his ‘cheerleaders’. Speaking to LGBTQ+ news outlet Advocate, he emphasized the importance of honesty and communication in polyamorous relationships. Meanwhile, the main challenge in their three-way dynamic, in Barry’s words, is that there are ‘a lot of personalities at all times’. That said, there’s no denying that they’re happy.
#9: Frankie Grande
Ariana Grande’s half-brother is married to actor and influencer Hale Leon. Before tying the knot, he was in a polyamorous relationship with Daniel Sinasohn and Mike Pophis, who were married. At the time, Madonna had warned him against throupling up, and just as she predicted, the relationship did not last. Later, in an interview with Page Six, Grande revealed that polyamory made him realize he was more suited to monogamy. The “Celebrity Big Brother” star has no hard feelings toward his ex-partners, though. In fact, he even said he was ‘grateful’ for them because it led him to his ‘ultimate’ relationship. All’s well that ends well!
#8: Bob the Drag Queen
The “RuPaul's Drag Race” season 8 winner has often spoken about his experience with polyamory. He was previously in a relationship with Ezra Michel and Jacob Ritts, but rather than being a throuple, like his fellow drag queen Derrick Barry, the three were in an open relationship. While Ezra and Bob have reportedly parted ways, the latter continues to be polyamorous and reportedly has multiple partners, who, in turn, have other partners of their own. During an appearance on the “Boyfriend Material” podcast by Harry Jowsey, Bob shared that an open arrangement works for him because it allows him to maintain his independence.
#7: Nico Tortorella & Bethany C. Meyers
The “Younger” actor married his fitness influencer wife in 2018 after dating for several years, during which time they had an open relationship. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Tortorella revealed that their non-monogamy was hurting their relationships with other people in their lives. To explain their equation better and streamline financial aspects like insurance, they decided to get married. “It was the next step for ourselves, and for our secondary and tertiary relationships,” Nico said. The pair is now raising two children together, but it seems they’re still pursuing relationships outside their marriage.
#6: Kehlani
In the love department, the “Get Away” singer reportedly has a preference for polyamory. They gave birth to a daughter with their former partner, Javaughn Young-White, and were once linked to Danielle Balbuena a.k.a 070 Shake. The only publicly known polyamorous relationship they had was reportedly with rapper YG. However, it did not last long because YG allegedly stepped out on them. Kehlani later revealed on “The Breakfast Club” that despite having an open arrangement with the “Big Bank” performer, a lack of communication and transparency led to their separation.
#5: Bella Thorne
The Disney star-turned-filmmaker and singer has only ever had one polyamorous relationship … or at least, one that we know of. It reportedly started around 2017 when the “Masquerade” actress was dating rapper Mod Sun and online personality Tana Mongeau at the same time. Bella and Tana broke up in February 2019, a few months before the “Her & Him” director split from Mod Sun. Although it did not work out, Thorne has nothing but good things to say about polyamory. In an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2019, she called it a ‘beautiful’ arrangement, as long as you find the, quote, ‘right mesh’ of partners.
#4: Drew Barrymore & Luke Wilson
The actress behind iconic romantic comedies like “50 First Dates” and “The Wedding Singer” once gave polyamory a chance. It happened in the nineties, during her relationship with “Legally Blonde” star Luke Wilson. We only found out about it recently when she revealed on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that their setup wasn’t monogamous. However, she seems to have fond memories of that time, referring to their relationship as ‘low stakes’ and ‘so fun’. Since then, Drew has been known to have monogamous relationships. She was married once before her romance with Wilson, and walked down the aisle twice afterward, though both of those marriages ended in divorce. Barrymore is now a mother of two.
#3: RuPaul
The ‘Queen of Drag’ is married to artist Georges LeBar, whom he met in the nineties. Though he has never been linked romantically to anyone else, RuPaul and his husband have an open marriage. In 2019, he sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair and called monogamy a ‘hoax’ but insisted that he and his husband love each other ‘more than anything else’ in the world. More recently, in a 2024 interview with The New Yorker, the multi-Emmy winner claimed, quote, ‘There’s no such thing as monogamy with men.’
#2: Ne-Yo
The “So Sick” singer’s love life will call you single in a hundred languages. Ne-Yo is in a polyamorous relationship with four women, and he calls them his ‘pyramid’. These ladies are Cristina, whom he calls Pretty Baby, Arielle a.k.a Twin Flame, Moneii or Phoenix Feather, and Bri, also called Sexy Lil’ Somethin’. The father of seven said on the “Big Boy's Neighborhood” show that after his ex-wife, Crystal Renay, divorced him for cheating, he started exploring non-monogamy. He also revealed on the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” that his children are aware of his multiple relationships.
#1: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
This pair enjoyed power couple status in Hollywood for decades. They met in 1994 and started seeing each other soon after, quickly becoming inseparable. They took their relationship to the next level when they said their I do's in 1997 and welcomed children Jaden and Willow in the following years. In 2013, word on the street was that the Smiths had an open marriage, but Jada clarified that they had a, quote, ‘grown’ one. In 2016, Jada got into a so-called ‘entanglement’ with singer-songwriter August Alsina, and in 2021, Will revealed he, too, had been having relationships outside his marriage. It was not until 2023 that “The Matrix Reloaded” star revealed she and Will had separated in 2016, but emphasized that she’d ‘never leave’ him.
