#10: Supergirl Vs. Unruly Truckers
Long before superheroes were trading punches in massive CGI battles, Supergirl gave us a much simpler kind of justice. Shortly after arriving on Earth, Kara finds herself harassed by a pair of sleazy truckers who think they’ve found an easy target. Big mistake. What follows is one of the film’s most satisfying moments, as the seemingly innocent Kryptonian effortlessly puts the creeps in their place. Helen Slater perfectly balances Kara’s sweetness with quiet confidence, making the scene feel playful instead of outright vicious. There’s something undeniably fun about watching these guys slowly realize they picked the wrong woman to mess with. Sure, the effects and choreography are pure 1980s cheese, but that’s part of the charm. Sometimes, classic superhero payback never goes out of style.
#9: Supergirl Vs. Mon El
“Legion of Superheroes” (2023)
Betrayal hits especially hard when it comes from someone you trust, and that’s exactly why this showdown feels particularly explosive. After Mon-El reveals his treachery and alliance with the Dark Circle, Supergirl wastes no time stepping up. While he can technically keep up with her due to their similar physiologies, she bosses the fight from start to finish. Try as he might, he’s got no real answer to her offense. Soon enough, Mon-El resorts to diplomacy in an attempt to lure her into his cause. Of course, Kara isn’t one to fall for such tricks, and it isn’t long before he’s down for good. The fight shows us our heroine finally stepping up as a leader, and looking pretty awesome at it.
#8: Supergirl Vs. Facility Guards
“The Flash” (2023)
Locked away in a secret facility for years, it’s only natural that Kara’s looking to blow off some steam. In one of “The Flash”’s most satisfying scenes, Kara unleashes her rawest power. After being rescued by Barry and Batman, the weakened Kryptonian absorbs the yellow sun for the first time in ages, offering a terrifying look into what she’s truly capable of. Unfortunately for them, the armed guards are on the receiving end of her wrath. Sasha Calle instantly won over viewers in a fight that feels far more aggressive and unbridled than audiences expected. In retrospect, running for their lives would’ve been a far better strategy, as the henchmen find out firsthand why you don’t rub a raging Kryptonian the wrong way.
#7: Supergirl Vs. Lex Luthor
“Supergirl” (2015-21)
He may be Superman’s archenemy, but Lex is more than happy to antagonize his cousin as well. And in the fourth season finale, Lex and Kara finally face off in a battle that goes big and explosive. Armed with Kryptonite gauntlets, Lex seems to have his trump card on hand, only for Kara to unveil a surprise of her own. Even so, it takes a tragic sacrifice from Red Daughter for our heroine to truly get one-up on Lex, as the stakes get even higher. Sure, the CW’s smaller budget doesn’t make the fight as grand as it could’ve been. But with both actors fully committed to the moment, we feel its impact almost as hard as Supergirl punches.
#6: Supergirl Vs. Artemis
“Superman/Batman: Apocalypse” (2010)
Her name might not be in the title, but Kara is the narrative lead in this DC animated movie. While most of Supergirl’s tussles end with her victory, this one goes the other way. However, it’s how it contributes to her growth that the fight remains strong in memory. Rather than relying on her natural strength, Kara engages with Artemis in a test of skill on Themyscira. The brief duel leads to defeat, but the protagonist understands where her inherent abilities end and where her true skills begin. While she could level all of Themyscira on her own if she wanted to, the fight isn’t about dominance, but for Kara to learn just how far she can push herself.
#5: Supergirl Vs. Metallo
“Justice League Unlimited” (2004-06)
It’s not in Kara’s nature to run away from a fight. DCAU fans first witness this in her bout against Power Girl. But when her opponent is fueled by Kryptonite, it’s time for her to adapt her usual strategy. After Metallo gives chase, Kara finds herself trapped underground in a clash that requires as much wits as it does determination. As Kara’s power slowly drains in Metallo’s presence, we can sense that extra layer of tension that turns her surroundings entirely claustrophobic. But even as she crawls and struggles, our heroine refuses to back down against an enemy specifically designed to destroy her kind. And just as she seizes victory, Kara proves she’s just as much brains as she is brawn.
#4: Supergirl Vs. Non
“Supergirl” (2015-21)
This fight functions as a two-parter, starting from the protagonist’s defeat and ending with her victory. When Kara first confronts the Kryptonian warlord, it’s clear she’s out of her depth. Still, her grit and tenacity are without doubt, as Kara fights back even as the pair takes their battle to the skies. While she comes up short during that clash, she’s far better prepared for its culmination in the season finale. Although it seems to go exactly as it did the first time, Kara’s willingness to tap into her ruthless side tips the scales in her favor. The villain’s defeat is by no means pretty, but we get a firsthand account of how brutal Kara can be when the going gets tough.
#3: Supergirl vs. Zod
“The Flash” (2023)
When it comes to Kryptonian enemies, it doesn’t get any bigger than General Zod. After this version of the character reveals his elimination of Kal-El, an enraged Kara goes on a no-holds-barred rampage. Calling this a fight is giving Zod more credit than he deserves, as the villain finds himself overwhelmed under Supergirl’s relentless barrage. At this moment, Kara mirrors what the audience is feeling, her all-around assault serving as a moment of catharsis. Although the bad guy wins through nefarious and underhanded tactics, the fight goes a long way toward showing that a bloodlusted Supergirl might just be the scariest sight in the DC Universe.
#2: Supergirl Vs. Darkseid
“Superman/Batman: Apocalypse” (2010)
Taking on the ruler of Apokolips is the ultimate stamp of validation for any character. And not only does Supergirl step up for this clash, she even flirts with victory. Among the most destructive battles in DC history, Kara stands in the way of Darkseid after the latter disposes of Superman. The villain gets some hard-hitting shots in, yet nearly comes short against Supergirl’s endless determination. Along with matching him blow for blow, Kara improvises her way through the battle, leaving the warlord within inches of defeat. Loud, devastating, and incredible to watch, it easily stands as one of the most adrenaline-pumping sequences to feature the character. And when even the mighty Darkseid acknowledges her abilities, you know she’s a force to be reckoned with.

“Supergirl” (2015-21)
The Arrowverse gets a bad rap for its less-than-stellar production values. But none of that matters in a battle largely considered the best of the franchise. The fight against a World Killer more than lived up to its billing. Everything from the cinematography, score, fight choreography, and storytelling lines up for this battle, evoking just the kind of response from viewers as the story intends. With her back against the wall, Supergirl’s never-say-die attitude shines through, even while faltering against the incredible might of her enemy. Along with its wow factor, this fight encapsulates all there is to this heroine – compassion, resilience, and standing up for what she believes in, no matter how impossible the odds are.
