The big game is about to begin. All the emotional stakes of the show are leading up to this, and Hannah knows exactly what Garrett needs to hear. Before he skates out onto the ice in front of everyone who’s counting on him, the two share one of their most passionate and romantic kisses. Slow motion, the music, the rest of the world falls away. It’s the kind of fairytale kiss that has you kicking your feet and in utter joy. Where this show is concerned, it’s one of the more tame moments, and that’s saying something.

As far as declarations of love go, this one is anything but tame. Hannah and Garrett leave things on a pretty steamy note at the end of Season 1. After falling in love, a rocky road of drama and past trauma, the two come back together. The way Garrett explains how much he admires Hannah is, in a word, passionate. No amount of flowery language could make up for just how much he wants to be with her, and he’s not shy about it either. Kissing outside her showcase performance, you almost feel like they wish they weren’t in public right now.

Hannah and Garrett aren’t the only ones having fun. Garrett’s teammate, Dean, pursues Allie, Hannah’s best friend. She’s convinced it’s a bad idea. Their banter is playful but always tinged with some genuinely erotic tension. Their encounters are made all the more complicated because Allie is in a disastrous relationship with Sean. But as soon as her attraction to Dean becomes something she shouldn’t do, it makes her want to pursue him even more. Their phone call after she breaks up with her boyfriend. They keep promising it’s the last time, but the lie detector determined that was a lie. We can’t wait to see how steamy things get when they take center stage in Season 2.

You can feel the tension. Having just admitted their very real care for each other, Hannah and Garrett make one last deal. No more deals. Once they accept that they’re not just playing pretend, Hannah and Garrett can finally start acting like a real couple. They waste no time. The first few minutes of “Off Campus’” fifth episode are a marathon of sex that feels like a release of all the pent-up attraction they’ve felt for each other. Where the rest of their interactions have been full of tension and the feeling that they’re holding back, let’s just say that’s not the case anymore.
#6: Kiss on the Bed

Being vulnerable is hard enough. Having a partner who supports you through it is essential. It’s also hot. Lying on the bed together while she tries to write her showcase piece, Garrett lies there looking cute and understanding while she has a brief spiral about her songwriting abilities. He knows just how to support her. They’re so comfortable that it accidentally leads to their first “I love you,” one of their better makeout sessions so far. Great romance gets you to invest in the emotional over the physical. In a steamy romance, you can’t have one without the other.
#5: Sitting Up Together

When they’re not playing a game of chicken, daring each other to take their physical intimacy to an increasing level of hotness, Garrett and Hannah melt the ice between them in other ways. Holing up in a bedroom to give credence to their fake relationship, the two share one of the most intimate experiences ever: sharing music. They slide into bed together. The tension here is not just sexual, although there’s plenty of that, too. We can actually feel them start to invest in each other as people, and it makes their chemistry even more romantic than it’s ever been.
#4: “I Don’t Blush”

Having made their little deal to forge a mutually beneficial pretend relationship, Hannah and Garrett get right to work testing the waters of their attraction. During an appropriately sweaty workout, Garrett calls her bluff. Why does she blush whenever he’s near her? Hannah denies it. He decides to test it out right there, inching closer to her. She turns up the heat, and the whole thing escalates like a series of dares. Who will chicken out first? It all starts to look a little too passionate for a so-called arrangement. It’s the longest lead-up to a kiss we’ve seen in a long time.
#3: The Shower

When college student and employee Hannah closes up the campus ice rink, she’s clearly under the impression she’s alone. So, running into Garrett Graham in the shower certainly wasn’t part of the plan. We don’t know what’s steamier. How long she gazes at his impressive, hockey player physique, or the fact that Garrett isn’t at all shy once he realizes she’s looking. It pretty much sets the tone for their early relationship. Hannah constantly denies her attraction to him despite always lingering on him, and Garrett doesn’t even entertain the idea that he’s not worth lingering on.
#2: “Now You Can Blush”

We love a good running joke, especially one that’s more sexy than it is funny. Calling back to one of their first intimate moments together, Garrett plays along with Hannah’s desire to make her crush Justin jealous. At a party, in full view of him, Garrett whispers in her ear that this is the part where, if they were together, he would tell her all the things he wanted to do to her. Of course, that “if” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. They’re still in full-on denial about their feelings at this point, and you can feel the ice melting.

She wants Garrett to help her become more comfortable with sex before she can move forward with her crush on Justin.
