Top 10 Times Celebs Clapped Back at the Press

Not every star likes the spotlight. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Stars Who Rarely Talk to the Press Anymore. For this list, we’re looking at celebrities who are press shy and rarely, if ever, give interviews anymore, especially when it comes to talking about their personal lives.

#10: Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

They’ve been famous since they were babies, so it’s no wonder that the twins shy away from the media in their adult lives. Since they’re no longer actresses, both women have focused on their fashion empire and will only speak from time to time with the press to promote their clothing lines - but they’ll almost never reveal anything about their personal lives. The duo has stated in the past that talking to the media and sharing their home lives gives them anxiety. It’s the same reasoning that keeps them from connecting with fans via social media, since neither has the typical accounts like a Facebook or Instagram.

#9: Kanye West

After years of getting in trouble for what he says, it’s no wonder that Kanye has gone dark when it comes to giving extensive interviews. There was time in the past where Kanye gave tons of face-to-face interviews, as well as in print, but after gaffes like his sit-down with Matt Lauer or his rant at Sway, he often has a hard time getting his point across and seems easily frustrated.Instead of talking to the press in a traditional sense, Kanye gets his viewpoints out there via his social media accounts like Twitter, but as of 2017, he’s even slowed down on that, often deleting those accounts as well.

#8: Leonardo DiCaprio

Top 10 Women Leonardo DiCaprio Has Dated

As one of Hollywood’s leading men, Leo keeps a relatively low profile for someone so in-demand. Sure, he’s often spotted in the tabloids because of his chaotic dating life, but Leo rarely gives extensive one-on-one interviews with the press either on TV or in print. He’ll come and talk about whatever film project he’s promoting at the time, but he’s not one to stay on the TV circuit when he doesn’t have a project push. Perhaps staying silent is the key to a long career, since we haven’t felt like he’s overexposed himself to the media.

#7: Dave Chappelle

In the past, Dave had a hard time escaping the media circus and spotlight that his Comedy Central series, “Chappelle’s Show,” put on him. The scrutiny made him so uncomfortable that he famously walked away from it all while shooting the show’s third season in 2005. From then on, Dave lived virtually as a recluse, stopped doing regular stand-up, and chose to remain silent when it came to press. It was a bold move to walk away from fame at the height of success. However, since 2016, he’s started making television appearances and taking some interviews to promote his increasing stand-up gigs.

#6: Adam Sandler

Jim Carrey vs Adam Sandler

When was the last time you read an interview with Adam Sandler? If you’re scratching your head about this one, it’s because the comedian hasn’t given a print interview since 1996. After he went on a big press circuit and spoke to many print journalists for his movie, “Billy Madison,” Adam was hurt by the pieces that were written, since many of them called him a moron. Since then, Adam has stopped talking to print journalists so you won’t see him gracing any magazine covers soon. He’ll still do late night shows when he’s promoting a project, but they aren’t the same kind of in-depth profiles you get from reading a more intimate piece.

#5: Kate Moss

In the age of Instagram modeling, we’ve gotten used to our beauty icons having a loud voice; but Kate comes from the old-school and definitely takes that less-is-more approach to her media presence. The supermodel doesn’t have any social media accounts, but even before the Internet age she rarely gave interviews. In a chat with Vanity Fair in 2012, she told the mag that her ex, Johnny Depp, gave her the advice to “Never complain, never explain,” a motto she took to heart and continues to live by. Maybe that’s why she’s continued to capture the public’s attention long after her heyday in the ‘90s.

#4: Frank Ocean

Since the start of his career, Frank has always seemed wary of living a life in the public eye and under the spotlight. Because of that, it’s very rare that Frank talks to the press at all. The introspective singer often puts his music out with little to no fanfare; and apart from the occasional post on his Tumblr, he keeps people second-guessing what his songs mean or where he’s at his in life. Often, if we learn any news about Frank, it’s from his collaborators and fellow artists, which seems to work in his favor by keeping his privacy.

#3: Bill Murray

When you’ve been in the public eye for over 40 years, keeping your interviews far and few between is probably the best way to keep your sanity. At least, that’s the strategy Bill has taken. Known for being hard to get in touch with, Bill doesn’t have an agent or manager and the only way to get in contact with him is reportedly to leave a message on his voicemail. He’s not a celebrity with a team; and even though he’ll go on late night shows from time to time, it’s unlikely that hosts will pull out overly personal stories from him. With Bill, you get the funny man entertainer, but not much else.

#2: The Weeknd

Since the start of his career, an air of mystery has shrouded The Weeknd. For years, no one even knew who was behind his music, so it should come as no surprise that the singer is press-shy. The musician is so publicity-averse that he never even gave a formal interview until 2013, when he was already three years into his career. He’s given a few insights into his silence when he then told Rolling Stone, “"We live in an era when everything is so excessive, I think it's refreshing for everybody to be like, 'Who the f--k is this guy?'" His minimal media game is working, and it’s admirable he’s been able to keep his life mostly private.

#1: Beyoncé

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Beyoncé

It might come as a surprise that one of the most famous pop stars in the world doesn’t talk to the press; but when you’re Beyoncé, who needs it? Around 2014, people began to notice that their favorite songstress had gone mum, and wasn’t answering direct questions or giving face-to-face interviews anymore. In May 2015, someone from her team finally let inquiring minds know that Bey was no longer talking to the press. Later that year, Beyoncé was even on the cover of Vogue’s September issue without an accompanying interview, which is highly unusual for a magazine to agree to. She’s never given an official reason for her silence, but she’s definitely letting her art speak for itself.
