Top 10 Best Scooby-Doo Parodies

#10: “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” (2000–15)
“One Hundred”
When Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad are sent into an alternate universe in which they become the “Aqua Unit Patrol Squad,” it’s clear that the “Scooby-Doo” vibes are there. First there’s the classic orange-and-green font style. But what really enhances this parody is the theme song. Besides that, “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” adds some creativity with the name “Meaty Meaty Moo,” as well as its own unique version of the Mystery Machine. It’s on screen briefly, but if you pay close attention, you can see the words “The Danger Cart.”
#9: “Psych” (2006–14)
“In Plain Fright”
It’s not easy incorporating references to an animated series into a live-action show without going too over-the-top. But, that’s what the detective comedy-drama “Psych” manages to do. The series integrates “Scooby-Doo” references in several episodes. While it perhaps could be viewed more as an homage at times, there are moments where it could better be classified as a parody. In the episode “In Plain Fright”, Shawn and Gus find themselves immersed in a mystery case at a theme park. There are explicit allusions to “Scooby-Doo”, along with the same spooky atmosphere and silly energy.
#8: “Johnny Bravo” (1997–2004)
“Bravo Dooby Doo”
This “Scooby-Doo” inspired episode of “Johnny Bravo” deserves a bravo itself. After Johnny’s car breaks down, he needs a lift. Luckily, a van comes by and stops for him. Inside is none other than the Scooby Gang. At first, Scoobs, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma are silent as Johnny explains the problem. But when they hear “spooky house”, they’re all in! As they arrive at Johnny’s destination - his aunt’s mansion - the episode continues to poke fun at the gang’s obsession with all things spooky!
#7: “Saturday Night Live” (1975–)
“Jake Gyllenhaal/Sabrina Carpenter”
It should be no surprise to see the home of parody skits, “Saturday Night Live”, make an appearance here! The season 49 finale featured Sabrina Carpenter as Daphne, guest host Jake Gyllenhaal as Fred, and SNL cast members Mikey Day and Sarah Sherman as Shaggy and Velma. The costumes and wigs were spot on! If you’re looking for a group Halloween costume idea, you’re looking at it. The skit poked playful fun at the show’s theme that people aren’t always who they seem to be. In the process, it took the G-rated animated series and made it much less kid-friendly …
#6: “Family Guy” (1999–)
Various
Of course the all-time classic animated sitcom had to parody “Scooby-Doo.” And just once wouldn’t be enough. “Family Guy” has featured several such scenes. For example, in the season one episode “I Never Met the Dead Man”, we get to glimpse a TV airing a a series called “The Scooby Doo Murder Files. “Family Guy” spoofs “Scooby-Doo” with the use of much darker, more violent language while describing the case. The crew’s appearances are well integrated into the “Family Guy” animation style. In another episode, season four’s “Deep Throats”, Stewie randomly comes across the Scooby Gang, and has to use musical means to get them to leave.
#5: “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” (2001–07)
“Shaggy Busted”
When it comes to Shaggy’s personality, one trait that fans have strongly associated with him is stoner energy. Of course, this was never explicitly stated nor displayed in the original kid-friendly “Scooby-Doo” series. But leave it to the Adult Swim series “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” to fully bring that element into play. In the episode “Shaggy Busted”, Birdman takes on a case to defend Shaggy and Scooby after they’re arrested for driving under the influence. He has his work cut out for him, as their constant hunger and giggles don’t exactly attest to their innocence. The prosecutor’s hilarious slideshow doesn’t help their case either!
#4: “The Venture Bros. (2003–18)
“¡Viva los Muertos!”
The Scooby Gang is reimagined as the sketchy ‘Groovy Gang’ in the Adult Swim series “The Venture Bros.” In the season two episode “¡Viva los Muertos!”, they decide to investigate the Venture compound. The Groovy Gang members are basically extreme versions of the characters we know and love, with a pointed resemblance to certain infamous real-life criminals. They’re into much darker humor; Velma smokes now; and Scooby refuses to reveal to anyone besides Shaggy that he can speak - which has apparently driven Shaggy mad. Those do not look like Scooby snacks, either!
#3: “Supernatural” (2005–20)
“Scoobynatural”
Praised for its nostalgic humor, “Scoobynatural” gave fans of both “Scooby-Doo” and “Supernatural” a treat. With its spooky mysteries, the world of “Scooby-Doo” is a perfect fit for monster hunters Sam, Dean, and Castiel. The three are sucked into a TV, specifically into the “Scooby-Doo” episode “A Night of Fright Is No Delight”! The episode pokes fun at Shaggy’s enormous appetite, and they team up with Mystery Inc. on a case. When the “Supernatural” trio react to a shocking discovery, their responses do a great job of imitating the Scooby Gang!
#2: “Futurama” (1999–)
“Saturday Morning Fun Pit”
“Bendee Boo and the Mystery Crew” is what they call the gang in Futurama’s “Scooby-Doo” parody.” What’s great about this episode is that, while it reimagines a famous cartoon that came before it, “Futurama” maintains its own distinctive animation style. There’s no better example of that than robot Bender as Scooby. “Futurama” continues the spoof by poking fun at the gang’s mystery fettish and Shaggy’s food obsession. On the lookout for food, where else would they go other than a spooky-looking house? They mock Shaggy, implying he’s baked. That would explain the munchies.

#1: “Night of the Living Doo” (2001)
This television special aired on Halloween. After the Mystery Machine picks up an animated Gary Coleman, things immediately go awry. Apparently, Fred wasn’t aware of the gas gauge. Luckily, Gary Coleman just so happens to have a container of gas on him. How handy! He has a spare tire as well. It just gets funnier and funnier as the Scooby Gang tries to find excuses to stop at various spooky places. “Night of the Living Doo” humorously pokes fun at the excessive lengths the Scooby Gang go to to immerse themselves in spooky situations. The parody also involves a mystery of course, which comically satires the crew’s mystery obsession.
