Top 10 Rom-Com Stars Who Are Surprisingly Good Dancers
VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Tal Fox
Dance the night away with these rom-com stars. For this list, we'll be looking at celebs who could sweep you off your feet both with their swoon worthy lines and stellar dance moves. Our countdown includes Cameron Diaz, Amy Adams, Kate Hudson, and more!

#10: Cameron Diaz

This actress is no stranger to busting out a move on-screen. We saw her strut her stuff on “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” after burning up the dance floor in “The Mask.” And is there even a moment where she’s not dancing on “Charlie’s Angels?” Supposedly Diaz has been moving and grooving since she was a member of her high’s school’s dance squad, the Polyettes. Her time on the team prepared her for the unforgettable disco number in “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” According to director McG, Diaz picked up the choreography really easily and didn’t even need much rehearsal time. And who didn’t love watching her groove it out?

#9: Penélope Cruz

While growing up in Spain, Cruz set her heart on a dance career. The actress took ballet courses over the course of 12 years while making time for theater courses as well. Cruz also continued to hone all of her talents when she moved from Spain to New York. Her strong foundation prepared her for whatever dancing a film requires. Cruz has shown off her considerable moves in films like “Vanilla Sky,” “Nine,” and “Noel.” She’s proven she can handle anything from salsa to of course, ballet on the big screen. Cruz also continues to dance as a way of keeping fit. Given how talented she is, we have a feeling she’ll never stop moving.

#8: Catherine Zeta-Jones

In the 70s and 80s, this Welsh actress grew up taking ballet and tap classes, even becoming a teen national tap dancing champion. She was also a West End stage regular, with roles in the original London cast of “Annie,” “The Pajama Game,” and “42nd Street.” However, after she transitioned to movies, audiences started to notice just how multi-talented she really was. We got glimpses of her dance abilities in films like “Rock of Ages” and “The Mask of Zorro.” But it was her role as Velma Kelly in the 2002 movie adaptation of “Chicago” that really blew us away. Nowadays, Zeta-Jones still shares plenty of dance footage via her social media, showing she’s still got it.

#7: Priyanka Chopra Jonas

The multi talented Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a phenomenally accomplished woman. But did you know that she also has dance skills on her spectacular resume? Admittedly, you might have been able to tell when she stood out in music videos like "“Ram Chahe Leela" and "Exotic." Jonas also showed off some impressive moves for Nick Jonas' song "Close”. And who could forget the elaborate musical number in "Isn't It Romantic"? Her wide range of experience includes knowledge of a form of Indian classical dance called Kathak. The superstar shared that she and her husband often dance to Bollywood music at home, and he divulged that they even have a signature move.

#6: Kate Hudson

Hudson has shown off her serious talent as a dancer on several occasions. In "Something Borrowed”, she is shown in an iconic "Salt-N-Pepa" routine. Additionally she was fantastic in "Nine.” It’s no wonder that Hudson was cast as dance coach Cassandra July on "Glee." It’s also no mystery as to why she was so good at tearing up the dance floor with Derek Hough and shaking it during a "Fabletics" commercial. Hudson's been dancing since childhood, saying it helps her unwind and release stress. She's more than comfortable on the dance floor. But if there isn't one around, she'll gladly turn her kitchen, living room, or even an airport lounge into her stage.

#5: Anne Hathaway

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Anne Hathaway

One of Hollywood’s most radiant stars, Anne Hathaway has continued to mark her place as A-Lister royalty since her breakout role in “The Princess Diaries.” She went on to star in a variety of blockbusters, including rom-coms like “Love & Other Drugs,” “Valentine’s Day,” and “Bride Wars.” Although we all knew she could sing, she largely kept her dance skills relatively under the radar for a while. Films like “Ella Enchanted” gave us a small preview of what she could do. Hathaway continued to hone her craft in preparation for roles in “Becoming Jane” and “Get Smart” to get into character. Between her great dance experience and tremendous acting talent, this superstar is a force to be reckoned with.

#4: Matthew McConaughey

Top 10 Moments That Made Us Love Matthew Perry

This alright, alright, alright actor can cut a rug with the best of them. We saw him put his best foot forward as Steve in “The Wedding Planner.” During that film, we saw him in a passionate Tango with Jennifer Lopez. McConaughey spent about two months perfecting the choreography, and even JLo admitted that piecing it together was a challenge. But they gave us a fiery and magnetic performance, made all the more exciting by their accompanying argument. McConaughey has proven that he has some serious raw talent and impressive discipline for a non-trained dancer. And he’s not afraid to lay it bare on the dance floor either. If you ask us, his moves are.

#3: Amy Adams

Before becoming a Hollywood sweetheart, Amy Adams dreamt of being a ballerina. She trained at the David Taylor Dance Company and worked as a professional dancer before her big break. Rom-com fans will know her from “The Wedding Date,” “Leap Year,” and “Enchanted.” The latter is where she first revealed that she was actually an astonishingly gifted triple threat. Later on, she was at the center of the Disney-fied musical theater showstopper “That’s How You Know.” Adams proved in the film that even among a vast ensemble, she steals the show. She’s dusted off her dance shoes for several roles since. Whenever Adams performs, she radiates charm and joy. And she’s no stranger to a TikTok routine either.

#2: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Although Gordon-Levitt famously grew up on our televisions, he actually started out as a theater kid. Luckily for him, the skills he amassed on stage proved to be an asset throughout his film career. None of us are ever going to forget that lively routine to Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams” in “(500) Days of Summer.” His “Rhythm Nation” performance on “Lip Sync Battle” has also been seen as one of his best outings yet. The actor has also made dancing part of his home life routine. In an interview with People, he confirms that he dances with his kids too. Based on the moves we’ve seen him throw, we would love an invite to the Gordon-Levitt family dance party. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Salma Hayek Hayek Can Shake It ”From Dusk Til Dawn” Sarah Jessica Parker The Actress Has Been Getting Footloose Since She Was a Child Audrey Hepburn She Was a Ballet Dancer Before the Public Saw Her “Funny Face” Jennifer Aniston Aniston Took a Couple of Salsa Classes to Prepare for “Along Came Polly” Ryan Gosling This Hollywood Heartthrob Has Been Dancing since His Days in the Mickey Mouse Club

Top 10 Times Jennifer Garner Was Awesome

It was a real thrill-er to see Garner recreate some of Michael Jackson’s most iconic choreography in “13 Going On 30.” However, her dance skills extend far beyond that one scene. The actress studied ballet while growing up. Although she took a hiatus from serious ballet lessons, Garner has proved that she can still remember the form via social media. In one Instagram post, we even see her dancing with Tiler Peck, a principal dancer for the New York City Ballet. Garner’s social media presence helped shine a light on her secret talent, surprising us all. We just hope she keeps those delightful videos coming.
