#10: “Blood to Bleed” Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004)

Also in:

Blood on the Dance Floor Talks Controversy, Androgyny

The fifth track off of Siren Song of the Counter Culture, “Blood to Bleed” sees the band singing about broken hearts and bad-breakups. Since many of Rise Against’s tracks tackle social and political themes, “Blood to Bleed” is unique and stands out amongst the group’s expansive discography. The track doesn’t deviate from the band’s signature style however, so don’t expect some sad and mellow acoustic beats here. Featuring Tim McIlrath’s powerful vocals, it’s not surprising why this tune became a fan favorite off the band’s major label debut.

#9: “Paper Wings” Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2005)

Also in:

SeeMoreGlass - Roaring Paper Spring (Official Music Video)

A fan favorite, “Paper Wings” can be found as the fourth track from Siren Song of the Counter Culture. After being featured on the soundtrack of “Burnout 3”, the track became an introduction to the band and the genre for many young music listeners. While the clear meaning of the song is unknown, it discusses themes ranging from relationships to living under pressure and finally being able to overcome your obstacles. Released as a promotional single, the tune became one of the band’s signature tracks after fans couldn’t get enough of its fast and frantic style.

#8: “Like The Angel” Revolutions per Minute (2003)

Top 10 Hardest Barbra Streisand Songs to Sing

As Rise Against’s first promo single, “Like The Angel” showed listeners everywhere exactly the band was here to do. The song has been praised for its impressive guitar solo and Tim McIlrath’s vocal performance matching perfectly with the music. While it didn't chart in the U.S. or Canada, the track was well received among fans and is one of the band's most highly praised singles. One thing is for sure, Rise Against was a serious force to be reckoned with in the punk world right out of the gate.

#7: “Re-Education (Through Labor)” Appeal to Reason (2008)

Top 10 Eurovision Songs That Didn't Have to Go THAT Hard

Tired of the 9-5, dog-eat-dog lifestyle? Rise Against knows your pain. “Re-Education (Through Labor)” was released as the first single from their fifth studio album Appeal To Reason. Taking a quote from former U.S. President John F. Kennedy about violent rebellion as an intro, the music video follows the Chicago Moped Army as they destroy a city and rejoice in the flames. This is a track that best showcases Rise Against at their most frustrated, with lyrics revolving around themes about the class system and living a routine lifestyle.

#6: “The Good Left Undone” The Sufferer and the Witness (2006)

Also in:

Top 10 Good Songs by Terrible Bands

One of Rise Against’s more underrated singles, “The Good Left Undone” is filled with the raw emotion not commonly found in the bands recent hits. The track tackles issues such as relationships, loss, and sacrificing for the well-being of someone you love. “The Good Left Undone” is actually one of the only songs that all four members of the band wrote the music for, allowing for a perfectly balanced melodic hardcore tune!

#5: “Ready to Fall” The Sufferer and the Witness (2006)

Also in:

Top 10 Another Songs for Getting Ready to Go Out

Definitely one of their most rebellious tracks, “Ready to Fall” portrays the band’s view on how humans treat the environment. The lads from Rise Against are heavy advocates of animal rights and protecting the environment, which is why this song and music video come as no surprise. “Ready to Fall” features some of Rise Against’s heaviest vocals and instrumentation, all for the purpose to get their important message across. While it is the lowest charting track from The Sufferer and the Witness, “Ready to Fall” just screams classic Rise Against.

#4: “Swing Life Away” Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2005)

One of the more unique Rise Against tracks, “Swing Life Away” stands out as one of the band’s few forays into an acoustic style. The song has an upbeat tone with optimistic lyrics and speaks of being content with living a flawed life. While this is out of the ordinary for Rise Against, it still includes the band’s themes of self-reflection and hope. Reaching number 12 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, unplugging the guitars and turning off the distortion proved to be worthwhile for the band.

#3: “Savior” Appeal to Reason (2009)

Released in 2009 as Appeal to Reason’s third single, “Savior” was the rock song of the summer. Unbeknownst to most, the song contains themes of forgiveness told through the story of a couple who has recently split up. The song peaked on the alternative rock charts at number three, and broke the record for longest time spent on the chart at 65 weeks, beating out hits from Finger Eleven, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and 30 Seconds to Mars.

#2: “Prayer of the Refugee” The Sufferer and the Witness (2006)

Originally found as their second single off of The Sufferer and the Witness, “Prayer of the Refugee” was Rise Against’s highest charting single reaching number seven on the Billboard’s alternative rock chart. This punk rock effort is also one of the more not so subtle nods against the system, outlining the flaws of capitalism in our society. Despite the bold subject matter, this is still one of Rise Against’s most recognizable tracks. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “Make It Stop (September’s Children)” Endgame (2011) “Satellite” Endgame (2011) “Injection” The Sufferer and the Witness (2006) “Life Less Frightening” Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2005) “Drones” The Sufferer and the Witness (2006)
