#10: Scut Farkus
“A Christmas Story” (1983)
Even though Scut Farkus has a small role, he’s unforgettable to anyone who’s ever been in Ralphie’s shoes. “A Christmas Story” unfolds through the eyes of an adult Ralphie and one of his core memories is being terrorized by the neighbourhood tyrant. We’re never really made to understand why Farkus loves tormenting others, which makes him seem a little out of control. With his crooked smile, unsettling laugh and taunting attitude, there’s just something about him that goes beyond the schoolyard tyrant vibe. Sure, he fits into the film’s whimsical tone, but if you’re as little as Ralphie, Scut’s more than just a cartoonish villain. He’s every child’s worst nightmare. Good thing Ralphie finally snaps and gives him a good beating.
#9: Mayor Augustus MayWho
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000)
While the Grinch is misunderstood and eventually redeemed, Augustus MayWho is the true manipulator of this classic Christmas flick. He’s honestly worse than you remember. As Whoville’s mayor, he hides behind fake charm and civic pride when he’s actually petty, vindictive and cruel. Obsessed with power, he’ll do anything to get his way—even if it means humiliating others. Sadly, the Grinch takes the brunt of his nastiness. In fact, MayWho’s actually responsible for the Grinch’s hatred of Christmas. Just look at the razor stunt during the Cheermeister celebration—pure ego, zero sympathy. Not even kind-hearted Cindy Lou escapes his schemes. With his smugness and icy indifference, MayWho’s less of a festive leader and more of a full-blown Christmas psychopath.

“Black Christmas” (1974)
In the original 1974 film, we know almost nothing about Billy, and that mystery makes him so terrifying. He’s this unseen presence making disturbing, incoherent calls before killing several young women in brutally intimate ways. What normal individual hides in the attic during the holidays if not a creep? The worst part is that he’s never even caught, leaving you with an uneasy feeling since he’s still out there. The 2006 remake tries to explain him by giving him this tragic backstory, but that doesn’t soften the horror. If anything, it just adds another layer to his madness. Whether faceless killer or tragic figure, Billy embodies the darkest side of human nature—and he’s the last shadow you’d ever want creeping around at Christmas.

“Krampus” (2015)
When Max lashes out and loses his holiday spirit, he unknowingly summons Krampus—the dark shadow of Santa Claus. Once Krampus arrives, all hell breaks loose. Everything about this massive, hunched figure screams unhinged, from his monstrous appearance and eerie arrival to his aggressive attitudes. With his horde of demonic elves and murderous toys, he terrorizes every member of the Engel family with their deepest fears. What’s worse is you can’t appeal to him. Krampus does what he wants—just ask Max. When he offers his pitiful apology, the creature drags him straight to hell. Even when the nightmare seems over, Krampus keeps watching from his snow globes. Lose your Christmas spirit and he’ll be there, not with gifts, but to collect your soul.
#6: Billy Chapman
“Silent Night, Deadly Night” (1984)
Christmas isn’t merry for everyone, and Billy Chapman proves just that. After witnessing his parents’ gruesome murder at the hands of a man in a Santa suit, Billy grows deeply scarred by the holidays. Instead of receiving help, he’s raised in a strict orphanage where punishment replaces love. Years later, when he’s forced to dress as Santa at his job, those buried memories resurface, triggering a violent breakdown. From there, he completely snaps, punishing anyone he deems naughty. What makes Chapman so dangerous is the sheer anger that drives him—and the fact that he’s dressed as a Santa makes his rampage more disturbing. Worst of all, he thinks he’s doing the right thing, which makes him come off even crazier.

“Home Alone” (1990)

It takes a seriously deranged soul to kidnap and strap him to a giant roulette wheel. Only Jack’s intervention saves Santa from becoming Oogie’s next stew ingredient.

“Batman Returns” (1992)
We can’t really blame the Penguin for the resentment he had toward Gotham. Who wouldn’t feel that much hatred after being abandoned as a deformed baby and left to die in a sewer? But the man who crawls back years later during Christmas isn’t just angry—he’s unhinged. Did you expect any better from a man who keeps a circus gang as family and treats darkness as home? Targeting Gotham’s first-born sons is enough proof he abandoned his sanity long ago. Renouncing every trace of humanity to embrace his true kind? That doesn’t surprise us that much. Honestly, the Penguin isn’t even human anymore—he’s a creature driven by chaos and cruelty. Siding with him like Catwoman did is the worst decision you’d ever make.
#2: Mr. Potter
“It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946)
One of the coldest, meanest businessmen in movie history, Mr. Potter is the complete opposite of George Bailey. While George lives to help others, Mr. Potter takes pleasure in exploiting the poor and crushing anyone in his way. His ruthless mission? Taking over George’s family business and eventually the entire town of Bedford Falls. When George’s uncle misplaces a huge sum of money that lands in Potter’s hands, Potter keeps it, knowing fully well it will ruin George legally and financially. When George comes to him at the brink of collapse begging for help, this cruel man pushes him toward despair. The scariest thing about Mr. Potter? Men like him exist. Worst of all, Potter faces no real punishment for his actions.

Was Hans Gruber mad or just a genius? We’ve got to give it to him, it takes sheer brilliance to stage a terrorist takeover as a distraction and manipulate the police into doing your bidding. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t more than a little crazy. Who in their right mind turns an office Christmas party into a hostage situation? Gruber is not just a smooth criminal. He’s willing to kill hostages, betray his own men and even blow up an entire building just to escape with the loot. That’s unhinged in an icy, controlled manner. Seriously, you’d have to be a special kind of sick to attempt shooting someone when your own life is dangling by a thread.
