Kicking off our list is an oldie, but a goodie. And by “goodie” we mean one of the greatest games of all time. Released way back in 2011, “Skyrim” amazed players with its endless open-ended gameplay, magnificent world, and memorable characters. Gaming fans went ballistic when they saw footage of “Skyrim” during the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer, although some were hesitant due to the game’s system requirements, which they feared the Switch would not be able to meet. While the potential performance issues are up in the air, we’re still beyond excited. It’s “Skyrim” on the go! What more could you want from a mobile system!?

Man, they’re really milking “Street Fighter II” for all its worth, aren’t they? Over 25 years after the original’s release, an updated version is coming for the Switch, maintaining the classic gameplay of old while adding a few fresh twists. One neat thing about the game is its different graphical styles, as players can change between the classic pixel art of old “Street Fighter” games and the Visual style of the HD remix released back in 2008. Some new mechanics include grapple breaks and an exclusive first person battle mode. With 19 characters to choose from and the aforementioned additions, this iteration is looking to be the most complete experience of the game yet. Until Super Ultra Maximum Street Fighter II comes out, of course.

Serving as a sequel to “Fast Racing Neo” (yes, it was a game), “FAST RMX” is a spiritual successor to the “F-Zero” franchise in that the graphics are all futuristic and you go really, really fast. “FAST” is even capitalized in the title, so you know they aren’t messing around! The core mechanic here is boost pads that are color coded orange and blue, and you’ll have to match that color polarity in order to gain the benefits that driving over these pads can afford you. The game will employ many of the Switch’s new toys, including the HD Rumble, so it’ll be interesting to see how the game plans to utilize the console’s technology. But perhaps most impressive is that the game claims to run at full 1080p at 60 FPS, making “FAST RMX” an ambitious title to look out for. Let’s see what this new Switch thing can do!

Nintendo has a good track record when it comes to releasing minigames for their new consoles. “Wii Sports” was a monumental success, and 1-2-Switch” looks like the same kind harmless and fun time, especially if you have a little…liquid refresher before you play. “1-2-Switch” is a party game composed of 28 minigames which all utilize the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers. Throughout the games, which include Quick Draw, Samurai Training, and Sword Fight, players are encouraged to look at each other rather than the screen, relying only on the rumble and audio cues given by the controller. It’s an interesting concept, and a game we can’t wait to try.

#6: “Fire Emblem Warriors” (TBD)

For those of you who were fans of the Hyrule Warriors games on Wii U and 3DS, than the title alone should give you a good indication of what to expect. You Take the tried and true formula of the Dynasty Warriors series, where you fight countless waves of soldiers with some over the top hack ‘n slash gameplay, and this time combine it with the beloved long running Fire Emblem series. Not much else is known about this game, but if Hyrule Warriors is any indication, the amount of fan service is going to be insane. … in more ways than one.

#5: “Xenoblade Chronicles 2” (TBA)

Technically it’s the 3rd Title in the “Xenoblade Chronicles” series, but just like Xenoblade Chronicles X, this title is once again an original story, with it’s premise also being unique yet sharing a lot of similarities with the first Xenoblade Chronicles game, you still with me? This sequel changes a few things up from the original, including a new protagonist who is searching for Elysium and a new chibi-inspired art style rather than the more realistic human graphics of yore. The composers from the first game are also returning for the sequel, so you can all rest easy and expect the same old magnificence we’ve been accustomed to. Fans of JRPGs definitely need to mark their calendars for this one.

When in doubt, enhance the titles that work! An updated version of “Mario Kart 8,” which was one of the Wii U’s highest selling game, and was our #1 pick in our “Top 10 Wii U Games list”. This Enhanced Remaster includes many enticing gameplay enhancements, including native 1080p on TV mode, a revamped Battle Mode with new maps, every character and race track from the original’s DLC, the return of Double Item’s from Mario Kart Double Dash, and the Inklings from “Splatoon” making their racing debut. If you failed to pick this up the first time when it was on the Wii U, you need to play it on the Switch.

Speaking of “Splatoon,” a sequel is actually being released, and we couldn’t be more pumped. “Splatoon” was released in 2015 for the Wii U and became one of the console’s biggest surprises. It seems like everyone couldn’t get enough of the addicting gameplay, memorable soundtrack, and colorful art style. The sequel aims to take everything that we loved about the original and expand upon it, with new weapons, new and possibly updated versions of old maps, zip lines, and even more colours, if that’s possible. It’s also incorporating LAN Multiplayer, there’s something we haven’t seen on consoles in a long time. With the original game’s hardcore fanbase and the Switch’s newcomers, “Splatoon 2” is almost guaranteed to be a huge success.

And what would a new Nintendo console be without-a little Mario!? The Nintendo 64 launched with “Super Mario 64” which changed the gaming landscape forever, and while we don’t expect “Odyssey” to do that, we’re certainly excited nonetheless. Miyamoto has said that this is a return to roots for the series, as it is based in an open world setting akin to “64” and “Sunshine,” and really, who doesn’t love those games? The game features extremely detailed and exciting locations like New Donk City which look to be highly explorable, along with new abilities, such as using Mario’s cap as a spring. Couple that with the amazing animations, and you have what looks to be one of the biggest Mario games ever. Was there ever any competition for this one? It seems like we’ve been waiting years for this beauty! Revealed way back when we were children in 2014 and delayed several times since, “Breath of the Wild” has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here! This game appears absolutely stunning and looks to change the way Zelda games are approached, complete with HD resolution, a detailed physics engine, actual voice acting, and an open world environment. When you also include the stellar trailer with its chill-inducing music (and yes, maybe we cried) you can see that a lot of thought, love, and care went into this release. It’s going to be amazing.
