The Wachowskis are also executive producers of “Sense8,” which follows 8 people who suddenly become linked mentally and emotionally without ever having known of each other before. These main characters, called “Sensates,” don’t only share their senses, but also a vision of a woman’s death and their ages. Thanks to its exploration of various political and social themes, the show has captivated audiences and has been called compelling by critics.

Armed with an already-established cult following, this former FOX series re-emerged on a beautiful spring day in 2013 when Netflix dropped a full 15-episode season. Mitchell Hurtwitz’s series was unjustly canned in 2006, which caused extreme emotional anxiety for couch potatoes across America and led them to protest the agonizing injustice. But the Bluth family came back in full force for all to stream, with the fourth season of the series subsequently receiving three Primetime Emmy nominations in what has to be one of the most spectacular comebacks in television history.

It’s hard not to like an animated sitcom featuring the voice talents of actors like Will Arnett, Alison Brie and Aaron Paul. Renewed by Netflix for a second season less than 7 days after the first episode of the show’s first season debuted, “BoJack Horseman” follows the has-been actor and anthropomorphic titular horse as he attempts to get back into the spotlight. He thinks that the best way to do this is by writing and eventually publishing his memoirs. Though critics may not have embraced it as quickly as audiences have, the L.A.-set comedy has a slew of eccentric characters, lots of laughs and clever moments that has had Netflix users coming back for more.
#6: “Lilyhammer” (2012-)
While normal people often take vacations to embrace the heat, mobsters often take personal retreats to escape it. Such was the case when Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano broke mafia rules and squealed on the man who killed his dog Lily. And so it was off to Lillehammer, Norway as Steven Van Zandt’s character attempts to build a new life that doesn’t involve killing people and causing endless mayhem. As one might expect, Frank doesn’t quite lay low upon arrival and proceeds to utilize some of his old talents. When “Lilyhammer” premiered in 2012, about 1/5 of Norway tuned in to watch, and it didn’t take long for the series to catch on elsewhere, which it did following its North American premiere on Netflix less than 2 weeks later. Considered a Netflix Original in North America, the 8 episodes of “Lilyhammer”’s first season that were made available that February were promoted as “the first time Netflix has offered exclusive content.”

Perhaps the most underrated comedic actress around, Ellie Kemper once played the lovable Erin Hannon on NBC’s “The Office,” and Tina Fey was so impressed that she chose her to star in the Netflix Original “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” Playing a girl with a rather awkward history who’s just moved to the big city, Kemper brings the perfect amount of cuteness and comedy to her endearing character, as she adjusts to a brave new world while remembering her troubling past life. With an equally hilarious supporting cast, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” became a social media phenomenon thanks to its kooky brand of comedy.

“We’re not bad people, but we did a bad thing.” Hmm…who could resist that tagline? Just as Ernest Hemingway wrote about morally conflicted characters from his Florida Keys home, the deeply troubled Rayburn family desperately seeks the high road from the same region. “Bloodline” has been known to make viewers cancel weekend plans, as one episode is simply not enough to satisfy a thirst for this familial drama. With an acclaimed cast and characters filled with deep-rooted fear, “Bloodline” offers a fresh take on the plight of the antihero.

Created by former “Lost” executive producer Drew Goddard, “Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the exploits of Matt Murdock, a blind man who fights crime in and out of the courtroom. Sure, his moral compass may be slightly out of whack, but that’s what makes this drama a thrill to watch. And, of course, you can’t forget about the ridiculously awesome fight sequences and the stark cinematography. If you’re not into action hero storylines, well, this series will make you reconsider.
