Top 10 Most Hilarious Post-Credits Scenes in Movies

#10: Megan and Jon’s Tape
“Bridesmaids” (2011)
Throughout this gross-out film, “Bridesmaids” once again proves that there should be a slew of all-female comedies. It speaks to the spirit of this movie that there’s one more funny moment in the end. Rather than letting the credits roll by, the filmmakers choose to include an intimate setup with the lovable Megan. It turns out that she’s had a productive affair with Air Marshall Jon. To put it lightly, their encounter is recorded for posterity. You might be laughing at the call back or averting your eyes. Either way, the script sends you away with another hilarious gag for the road. Let’s just say you might not want to eat a sandwich for a while after.
#9: Fred Reunites with Father
“Big Hero 6” (2014)
With all of the satisfying hijinks in “Big Hero 6,” it’s only fitting that a side character gets this kind of surprise. Fred ends up discovering his own superhero roots. After talking to his dad’s picture, the comic fan finds a hidden entrance to something he never could’ve expected. The real kicker is when his father shows up. A cameo from Stan Lee makes it all even better, with a catchphrase to wrap things up. There’s also a heartwarming hug to send off these two in notable fashion. Mixing comedy and pure emotion, this is a reunion for the ages.
#8: Sticking Around
“Wayne’s World” (1992)
You could call these two of the most beloved comedy characters of the 1990s. Considering their reputation from “SNL” to the big screen, we can only jump for joy when they reappear in the credits. This meta joke features Wayne and Garth sticking around to the end and wondering what to do. Their awkwardness fuels this bit, with the pair unsure of what to do as they wait. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey don’t need to do much to bring out the funny either. “Wayne’s World” certainly deserves its status as a modern classic, giving people bits to remember all the way to the very end.
#7: Bill Murray’s Return
“Zombieland: Double Tap” (2019)
Fans of the original will definitely remember Bill Murray’s cameo. Naturally in the sequel, the filmmakers wanted to make one more nod to the comedy legend. The credits scene takes us back to the start of the outbreak with a few jabs at Murray’s “Garfield” role. At a press junket, the former “SNL” cast member has to fight Al Roker. The action sequence finds the man in top form against other critics-turned-zombies. You could call it a commentary on the media or a good time, but either way this funny aside comes out swinging. It’s also an excuse to watch the “Groundhog Day” lead take out the undead.
#6: Photo Evidence
“The Hangover” (2009)
This comedy is full of many mysteries that you only hear about after the fact. While the characters make it to the wedding, their bachelor party incites some debaucherous behavior. The end credits showcase just what they got up to with excruciating detail. You get to watch as Stu’s camera reveals it all, with hilarity just around the corner. Many audience members might be waiting for this part above all other scenes. “The Hangover” adds tension until the end, finally revealing the extent of one crazy night. You’ll notice a few familiar faces and stories come to light in glistening detail.
#5: Captain America Talks Patience
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017)
Earlier in this film, Peter Parker winds up in detention. He receives an important message from one of the Avengers there. By the end of the adventure, many audiences aren’t expecting to see Captain America again. This post-credits scene brings the patriotic hero back for a gag about patience. Audiences don’t receive a cool glimpse at the sequel, but they do have a prank pulled on them. It turns out that the character only shows up to make fun of the waiting game. Considering all the jokes in this Marvel entry, this one seems to be the most surprising and meta of them all.
#4: Les Grossman’s Dance
“Tropic Thunder” (2008)
Tom Cruise’s role in this movie is so against type that he’s almost unrecognizable. Tearing up the screen, his performance as Les Grossman is absolutely electric. The scene-stealing role then returns for the credit sequence. Cruise also receives an opportunity to reveal some dance moves, receiving some help from a Ludacris song. It’s both hilarious and shocking to watch it all happen. Many fans of the “Top Gun” star will be pleasantly surprised, but also eager to hit rewind. You can’t knock “Tropic Thunder” for trying everything, giving viewers a one-of-a-kind experience with this ending.
#3: Waiting for a Ride
“Airplane!” (1980)
Taxi driver Ted Striker spends most of this movie trying to land a plane, but he forgot about something back at the airport. The hero left a potential passenger waiting outside. Most of the movie’s jokes fly by in seconds, with this one really paying off. “Airplane!” rewards viewers that are watching closely and have great memories. The dedicated man seems patient enough to wait, making this one of the movie’s more unexpected gags. With everything that’s happened in the plot, it’s amazing to know that guy has been chilling there the whole time. This vintage credits-scene still induces laughter to this day.
#2: Ferris Asks You to Go
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986)
In one of John Hughes’ best movies, Ferris Bueller frequently addresses the camera. His fourth-wall breaking lead bends the rules throughout this comedy. After watching the high-schooler make it back home and into bed, the audience is almost ready to go. Bueller then steps out after the credits to issue one more message. With everyone sitting through Rooney’s bus ride from hell, we finally receive a blunt reply from the main character. Matthew Broderick’s quick-witted hero keeps it short and sweet for maximum effect. Many years later, the film’s impact inspired a parody from the likes of Deadpool.
#1: Awkward Silence
“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (2004)
What more can you ask for in this classic comedy? For many viewers, a small gag like this goes a long way to enhance the experience. “Anchorman” devotees get to watch the main news team together in another funny scene. It speaks to the chemistry of the central cast, with Will Ferrell lighting the way as Ron Burgundy. The moment and laughter fade on screen as the anchor awkwardly interrupts. Using their trademark silly energy, the cast deliver an additional joke for superfans to enjoy. Ferrell and company give the scene their all in a fun showcase of their comedic powers.
