VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Tal Fox
These are the moments that made us love Britney Spears. For this list, we'll be looking at some of our favorite highlights from the Princess of Pop's career. Our countdown includes "Toxic," “Britney: Piece of Me,” “Oops!... I Did It Again,” and more!

#10: Hosting “SNL” - Twice “Saturday Night Live” (1975-)

Britney made her SNL debut back in 2000, doubling up as host and musical guest. We already knew that she was a triple threat but now we’d learn that she was funny too. Even playing opposite seasoned comedians, Spears effortlessly managed to hold the spotlight. So we were delighted when she resumed dual responsibility again in 2002. She next visited studio 8H as a musical guest in 2003 and made a cameo in another episode that same year. Whether she’s delivering a monologue, starring in a sketch, performing one of her songs, or appearing on Weekend Update, Britney never fails to entertain.

#9: Giving Us a Best of Britney Medley “23rd Billboard Music Awards” (2016)

Opening the “Billboard Music Awards” in 2016, Britney proved once again why she’s the undisputed princess of pop. Performing a medley of her greatest hits, she treated audiences to a gold-star spectacular with outstanding choreography and a big ol’ pile of nostalgia. Later that evening she would receive the Billboard Millennium Award honors, and you don’t need to look much further than this medley extravaganza to understand why. Those songs we love so much, paired with her iconic moves, not to mention her mind-blowing stamina, made this performance the talking point of the evening. Now that’s how you kick off a show!

#8: The “Oops!... I Did It Again” Music Video “Oops!... I Did It Again” (2000)

In 2020 this music video celebrated its 20th anniversary? A then-19-year-old Spears wanted to shed her former image and show the world that she’s “not that innocent.” And she had just the red latex catsuit to do so. Collaborating with director Nigel Dick, stylist Estee Stanley, and choreographer Tina Landon helped her achieve her goal alright. Unfortunately, though, plans for a Leo DiCaprio cameo had to be scrapped due to scheduling conflicts. Nevertheless, she had ushered in a new age of Britney Spears and we were so here for it. More than 20 years later, the video’s legacy continues to thrive.

#7: Making the Ultimate Comeback “25th MTV Video Music Awards” (2008)

In 2008, after a brief hiatus, the queen of the VMAs returned to reclaim her crown. But first, she showed us what a good sense of humor she has, appearing in a series of promos with Russell Brand and opening the show in a skit with Jonah Hill. But it was Britney who ultimately got the last laugh, as the biggest winner that year. She won “Best Female Video”, “Best Pop Video” and “Video of the Year” for her 2007 hit “Piece of Me.” By the end of the night, the elephant in the room was well and truly forgotten. And that’s how you make a comeback.

#6: Announcing Her “Britney: Piece of Me” Las Vegas Residency “Britney: Piece of Me” (2013)

If you hadn’t heard that Britney was back, it was kind of hard to miss after the amazing announcement of her Las Vegas residency debut in 2013. More than 1,000 Britney fans showed up to the desert, in the middle of the night, to surprise the singer with a giant poster as she flew over in a helicopter. Although she booked in for a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, the show was so successful that it was extended for another two years. By the end, her show grossed almost $138 million, and she performed 248 times, was presented with a Key to the City, and won the “Best of Las Vegas Award” twice.

#5: Playing Amber-Louise “Will & Grace” (1998-2006; 2017-20)

Among the many guest appearances on this classic sitcom, Britney’s has to be one of our favorites. In season eight, she made her primetime acting debut as Amber-Louise, Jack’s new co-host at OutTV - only this conservative right-wing pundit has a pretty major secret. Spears seems so comfortable in the role that you’d think that she’d been starring in sitcoms her whole life, eEspecially as she delivers her lines with perfect comedic timing and bounces off of Sean Hayes with such ease. Apparently, her appearance caused such a stir among the studio audience that they had to pause filming just to give her a proper introduction.

#4: The “Toxic” Music Video “Toxic” (2004)

Lifting her career to new heights, in 2004 Britney took to the skies for one of her most expensive and extravagant music videos ever. Once again she had the concept in mind and this time she enlisted the help of “Stronger” director Joseph Kahn and choreographer Brian Friedman to make it happen. While the secret-agent/ angry girlfriend premise is entertainingly chaotic, this video is remembered for giving us some of Britney’s most iconic looks - from the blue air hostess outfit to what’s apparently just strategically placed diamonds. “Toxic” has more than 530 million views on Youtube and remains one of her greatest music videos of all time.

#3: Nailing Her Social Media Game

When she decided to take an indefinite hiatus, Britney still used social media to connect with her fans. Through free-spirited dance videos, plenty of selfies, and other more cryptic posts, she routinely gives us small glimpses into her life. Over time, she’s also been more candid about her personal situation, more daring with her content, and even used her platforms to deliver mysterious and at other times not-so-mysterious messages. With every new post, we feel like we get to know Britney a little better. But no matter what she shares, the stans are here for it offering support, love, and good vibes always.

#2: Performing “Slave 4 U” with a Live Python “18th MTV Video Music Awards” (2001)

Following her performances at the 1999 and 2000 MTV VMAs, audiences expected great things from Ms. Spears in 2002. And she didn’t disappoint. As if adding yet another iconic look to her repertoire and slaying the phenomenal choreography wasn’t enough, she went even further. With a 7-foot Burmese python draped over her shoulders, she created one of the most unforgettable and talked-about moments in VMA history. Supposedly and understandably Britney was nervous about her new co-star, but they ended up making an exssssssellent team. Together they really stole the show and we couldn’t imagine how Brintey would ever top herself again. Although we never doubted that she could. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. #1: The “...Baby One More Time” Music Video “...Baby One More Time” (1998)

This was the one that put Britney Spears on the map. Released when she was just 16, it was Britney who pitched the idea for this now-iconic music video and its famous outfit to director Nigel Dick. Shot in the same school where “Grease” had been filmed 20 years earlier, Spears redefined the girl-next-door image and created one of the key nineties era-defining moments. She earned her first three VMA nominations and it was the final video played on the original run of MTV’s Total Request Live. Britney’s music video debut marked a pivotal moment in popular culture and introduced the world to a superstar.
