Now that’s one cool devil. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Lucifer Moments on Supernatural. For this list, we’ll be looking at those times where the devil was at his most diabolical and charming best. Since these moments cover the majority of seasons on the show, here is your Spoiler Alert!

#10: Bonding with Jack “Exodus”

Lucifer’s arc in season thirteen is to try and meet his son, Jack, and he wastes no time when he finally gets the opportunity. Having no experience with children, his attempts to bond with Jack are hilariously awkward, although he does try his best. Lucifer’s nervousness signals a change in his personality, as he teases a possible character development from his malevolence to perhaps loving someone for the first time. It makes for an interesting dynamic to see the naive Jack reluctantly grow to understand his father, as the mischievous Lucifer manages to charm him with his stories. With the Apocalypse World posing as a constant threat, the interactions between these two contrasting personalities make for a refreshing change of pace.

#9: Making Crowley His Pet "The Vessel"

10 Fascinating Facts About the Making of Shogun

A show of power for a jokester like Lucifer can only be bad news for his opponents, as Crowley learns firsthand. After taking possession of Castiel, and killing Crowley's mother Rowena for good measure, Lucifer places Crowley in his possession to extract information. To feed his ego over his superior position, he has Crowley dress up in ridiculous clothing and sealed in a kennel. Wanting more subservience, he forces Crowley to behave like a dog to prove that he really is his master, even petting him like an animal. Although undignifying Crowley to this level is shameless, it proves Lucifer’s strategic mind, as he makes a mockery of the King of Hell to keep the rest of the demons in line.

#8: Resurrecting Sam & Forcing to Take Him to Jack "Beat the Devil"

Supernatural villains thrive on dark humor, and Lucifer brings it best in this blackmailing, showing off his skills in the art of manipulation. After Sam is brutalized and killed by vampires in the Apocalypse World, it appears as if he’s gone for good. However, a confused Sam is brought back to life, only to meet the devil himself. Putting on a cheery tone, Lucifer makes light of this precarious situation. Soon, he turns the creepiness on by reminding Sam that he “ate” angels to become empowered. Although Sam tries to defy him, Lucifer reveals he can easily let the vampires finish feasting on him if he wants. Helpless, Sam has no option but to cave in to Lucifer’s demands to take him to Jack.

#7: Confronting Crowley & Rowena by Showing His Powers "Mamma Mia"

The battle against Amara ends with Lucifer being ripped off from Castiel, leaving him to search for alternatives. The change in vessels brings a more serious demeanor out of Lucifer, especially when possessing rock star Vince Vincente. When he finds Crowley and Rowena on his throne of Hell, an incensed Lucifer arrives to confront them. Unfortunately for him, Rowena’s magic places him in a temporary bind, during which Crowley attacks the vessel with acid. It’s here where we learn that underestimating Lucifer is the worst thing to do, as he regains his strength to show off his angelic glory. Making short work of the mother-son duo, Lucifer serves up a reminder why people should fear the devil.

#6: His First Meeting with Sam "Free to Be You and Me"

With the build-up to Lucifer’s release paved with one atrocity after another, the Winchesters believe his release will bring more violence. However, he turns out to be nothing like they expect. Arriving in the form of Sam’s deceased girlfriend Jessica, Lucifer tries to convince him that all hope is lost, before revealing his true form. Despite Sam’s defiance, Lucifer never raises his voice, and promises his complete honesty. Although this is another thinly veiled manipulation, Lucifer does speak the truth, as he sympathizes with Sam’s reluctance to be his true vessel. This calm and understanding Lucifer is more intimidating than the violent perception of him, as Sam finds it impossible to argue. It also makes one question if the devil really might not be so bad after all.

#5: Possessing Sam & Beating Down Dean "Swan Song"

With no other option to end the apocalypse than to seal Lucifer back, Sam gives his consent to be used as a vessel. Unfortunately, his plan of keeping Lucifer trapped within him fails, although the latter initially pretends to be Sam just to mock Dean. From here, his devilish pride becomes much more apparent, as Lucifer boasts about his victory. However, after the heroes interrupt his fight with Michael, Lucifer finally drops the nice guy act and unleashes his full fury. Wanting Dean’s final moments to be as painful as possible, Lucifer makes him witness Castiel and Bobby’s death, promising to beat him to death using Sam’s body. After watching the sedate Lucifer the entire season, it’s both terrifying and entertaining to see the real face of fear.

#4: Possessing Sam in the Alternate Future "The End"

Due to a fallout between Sam and Dean, the older Winchester decides to go on his own way. To teach him a lesson, the angel Zachariah sends Dean in the future, where the world has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland. After witnessing the death of his future counterpart, Dean learns that Lucifer and Sam have become one. Dressed in a white suit to highlight his angelic grace, Lucifer gloats of his world dominance. Rather than kill him, though, he basks in his victory, nonchalantly brushing off all of Dean’s defiance. Having accomplished his mission of bringing mankind to near-extinction, this Lucifer evokes a sense of peace in his mannerisms, and it’s hard not to admire how perfectly he’s pulled it off.

#3: Mentally Telling Sam to Pay Attention to Him "Repo Man"

Being the devil, Lucifer knows the many sides of torture better than any other being. When Sam regains memories of his time in Hell, a hallucination of Lucifer constantly stalks him to drive him into insanity. After Sam learns to ignore this hallucination, Lucifer turns things up a notch by putting on juvenile antics. However, he’s disappointed to see that the majority of his tricks aren’t working, despite literally putting himself in Sam’s way, and repeatedly cracking jokes. Eventually, when even a horrifying hallucination of his fails to capture Sam’s interest, Lucifer throws a tantrum because of his boredom. Although it’s heartbreaking to watch poor Sammy suffering like this, it’s still funny to see Satan himself behave like a child craving for attention.

#2: Luring Sam Into the Cage "O Brother Where Art Thou?"

The release of The Darkness prompts desperate measures out of the Winchesters to defeat her. Following many unexplained flashbacks of his time in Hell, Sam enters a vision where he meets a young John. This memory reminds Sam of the lack of closure he had with his father, making him believe that God is guiding him over to speak to Lucifer. (S11E04) After seeking Crowley and Rowena’s help with Lucifer, Sam confronts his former tormentor once again. Unfortunately, Lucifer traps Sam with him, revealing that all of Sam’s visions had been his doing, while mocking his faith in God. A twist no one could see coming, it highlights the genius levels of duplicity Lucifer can accomplish. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Beating Sam, Dean & Castiel While Dancing "The Devil in the Details" Because This Devil’s Got Some Rad Moves Getting His Powers Back & Killing Crowley’s Vessel "There's Something About Mary" Because No One Does the Double-Cross Better Than the Devil Without His Grace, He’s Closer to Being Human Ever "War of the Worlds" Because It’s Fun to See Lucifer Be Put in His Place for Once Saving Castiel from Angels "War of the Worlds" Because When Lucifer Tells You to Run, You Need to Run Creating Jack "LOTUS" Because There’s No Bigger “Yikes” Moment Than This

#1: Possessing Nick "Sympathy for the Devil"

The first corporeal appearance by Lucifer in the series sets the stage for his characterization. Looking to take advantage of Nick, a lonely and depressed widower with no will to live, Lucifer takes on the form of his deceased wife. Putting on a tender and welcoming demeanor, he appeals to Nick’s sense of loss and justifies his act of rebellion against God as an act of love. It’s here where we learn the remarkable talent Lucifer has to twist words to his advantage, as Nick is slowly convinced that harboring Satan within himself will bring him peace. Rather than introduce the Big Bad through an act of brutal force, Lucifer’s entry through cunning means sets him up to be a villain impossible to predict.
