Grab a sword and shield cause its time to head back to 790s Norway! Norsemen, the hit Norwegian period comedy, centers around a village of 8th century vikings. Unlike other historical shows full of adventure, the show extracts much of its humor from the humdrumness of the character's daily lives. That being said, Norsemen still packs plenty of action into its three seasons. The production design is also top notch, with stunning cinematography and authentic costumes. A satirical look at a dark period of Europes past mixed with some dry humor, Norsemen is a must watch for any history buff.

Based on a book by Silvia Zucca, An Astrological Guide for Broken Hearts is a love letter to hopeless romantics. Set in Turin, the Italian Netflix series focuses on a lovesick production assistant named Alice. Single and wishing to find Mr. Right, her luck changes when she meets an astrology expert and the rest is as they saywritten in the stars. Whether or not you believe in astrology, Broken Hearts is destined to bring you plenty of laughs!


#7: Call My Agent! (2015-20)

Welcome to Agence Samuel Kerr, a Parisian talent agency where both comedy and drama get top billing. This is the premise of Frances hit series, Call My Agent!, originally called Dix pour cent in its country of origin.. The show is a behind the scenes look at the challenges faced by ASKs chronically stressed out agents as they attempt to survive the unforgiving world of show business. Packed full of wit and cerebral humor, the show was so successful during its four season run that it spun off series in countries such as Italy, India, and Turkey, as well as England, where it was renamed, Ten Percent.

Throughout four seasons, Josh Thomas charmed Australian audiences on the comedy,Please Like Me. Thomas, the shows creator, starred as the protagonist, also named Josh, a young man navigating adulthood and his newly discovered sexuality. A hit with both the public and critics, the program was praised for both its heart and humor, as well as its representation of queer characters. The series has also won numerous awards and accolades for successfully balancing heavy subject matters with thought, care and levity. It seems that audiences dont just like Please Like Me...they love it.


#5: Chewing Gum (2015-17)

Created and led by the incredibly talented Michaela Coel, this English sitcom should absolutely be on your radar! This semi-autobiographical series follows Tracey, a 24-year-old woman who hopes to break free of her religious upbringing, understand the world around her, and get some action. Chewing Gum refuses to hold back in putting the hilariously awkward facets of coming-of-age on full display and Coels performance absolutely drives it home! Having been adapted from her one-woman play, the show is imbued with equal parts heart, insight and wittiness. We just wish that there were more than two seasons to enjoy!


#4: Derry Girls (2018-22)

Set amid The Troubles in Northern Ireland, Derry Girls, isnt your average teen comedy. The series chronicles the life of teen-age Catholic school girl, Erin and her group of friends, as they face the many plights of adolescence: love, family drama and rebellion. It uses humor to cope with and make sense of a bleak period in history. Bonus: It features a pre- Bridgerton Nicola Coughlan, in her breakout role as the side-splitting Clare. A little raunchy and also incredibly sweet, watching Derry Girls is like receiving the biggest and warmest of hugs.


#3: We Are Lady Parts (2021-)

Set in the UK, We Are Lady Parts is more than a television series: its an anthem. It follows Lady Parts, a female Muslim punk rock band as its members attempt to navigate relationships, adulthood and culture. Created by Nida Manzoor, the series consists of laugh out loud comedy and heartfelt moments that stick with you long after the credits roll. In addition, it also features a great soundtrack full of both pre-existing and original songs. Only two seasons long so far, We Are Lady Parts continues to rock with every rewatch.


#2: North of North (2025-)

Released in 2025, North of North hails from The Great White North. Set in a close-knit Arctic community, the show follows Siaja, a young Inuk wife and mother whose life takes a major turn when she decides to leave her husband in pursuit of finding herself. This catalyst finds her facing unexpected situations and challenges resulting in lots of laughs. Anna Lambe, who plays Siaja, is the heart and soul of the series, leading a cast of equally funny and memorable characters. Her comedic timing is impeccable. A story about reinvention and the pursuit of happiness, North of North is heading in the right direction


#1: Ghosts (2019-23)

Inheriting an estate is a massive undertaking. Inheriting one filled with spirits is a whole other deal. In the UK hit series, Ghosts, Alison and her husband Mike move into Button House, a mansion left to her by a relative. Their plans to transform it into a hotel are foiled after an accident leaves Alison with the ability to interact with a group of ghosts that haunt the house! From a caveman to a Georgian aristocrat, the apparitions come from all different eras throughout history. Trading in scares for lighthearted laughs and mirth, Ghosts widely appeals to all kinds of audiences. With 5 seasons and special under its belt, it just might become your new comfort watch.
