Whether it's high-speed car chases, aerial combat, or brutal fight scenes, these stunts represent the pinnacle of practical effects in modern filmmaking.

#10: Rig Ambush

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

George Millers post-apocalyptic series never skimps on great action. The prequel Furiosa follows the formative years of the title hero, while also showing her in a pivotal ambush scene. This also includes some elaborate staging and stunt work. Theres performers above, below, and alongside a tanker. You even get to see people flying in parachute rigs. Each step of the way, this high-octane sequence looks exceptionally dangerous. Millers vision, his stunt team, and some believable CGI combine to make this a thrilling time. Its one to rival the amazing chases and the pole work from Fury Road.

#9: Flying Scenes

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

In an effort to push the envelope, Top Gun: Maverick offered up some of the more believable aerial combat scenes in movie history. They developed a system of onboard cameras that filmed the actors inside real jets. With every turn and maneuver, you feel the intensity of the moment. This is especially true of daring sequences such as the test run. Tom Cruise proves once again that he and his projects go the extra mile to entertain audiences. You couldve cheated all of it with simulations and special effects, but the filmmakers decided to make it much more authentic. The heavy breathing, sudden jolts, and sheer speed of it all contribute to an immersive experience.

#8: Window Swing

Atomic Blonde (2017)

In this fun movie, there are many moments for Charlize Therons character Lorraine Broughton to prove shes a badass. This includes one apartment fight that builds to an effective climax. With limited options, Broughton jumps out a window and swings to a lower floor. Its a daring move that requires a stunt performer to be precise and nimble. With the help of wires and editing, Atomic Blonde makes the audience believe that somebody could actually pull this off. Its as if they took some kind of fantasy and made it an exciting part of a spy thriller. Needless to say, you shouldnt try this one at home.

#7: Rolling on the Beach

The Fall Guy (2024)

In this love letter to stunt work, The Fall Guy features more than a few awesome action sequences. This meta scene includes the filming of a car chase and the subsequent crash. The vehicle in question turns, flips, and tumbles several times. With the addition of cameras and crew members, this shot already has a lot going on before it spirals out of control. It also broke the record for cannon rolls once held by the James Bond film Casino Royale. Watching it back, you wonder how they did one roll let alone eight and a half. The explosive and destructive nature of the stunt makes it look even better.

#6: Helicopter Roll

Spectre (2015)

During the opening of this 007 film, James Bond chases baddie Marco Sciarra to a helicopter. The flight doesnt go as planned as the fight leads to a few acrobatics. These expert moves look incredibly dangerous, with the vehicle taking big rolls. It looks like one of the basic things you shouldnt do with a helicopter. Miraculously, the pilot keeps the aircraft from hitting the ground. The entire sequence plays out with pure excitement as Bond and Sciarra tussle inside. Stunt pilot Chuck Aaron clearly perfected this maneuver and showed it off to a global audience. Its not the last time Bond movies featured a huge set piece either, with a bike jump in No Time to Die being another standout.

#5: Roof Fight

The Foreigner (2017)

This movie proves that even an older Jackie Chan gets the job done. His character finds himself battling enemies before ending up on a roof. This sequence mixes Chans efforts with other fearless stunt performers. You have to admire the dance-like routines that make it all look effortless. Tumbling across shingles is one thing, but the jump to a pole takes it to another level. The protagonist takes a beating while also showing that he can compete with any number of assailants. In this underrated gem, the cinematic legend and an incredible team help him bring a breathtaking scene to life.

#4: Backwards & Forwards

Baby Driver (2017)

With a cool soundtrack, the title character is the perfect getaway man. He helps robbers escape the police with some fantastic driving. This includes a few tight moves down an alley, including a maneuver that involves forward and reverse. It almost seems like you shouldnt be able to do this outside a video game. Baby Driver enlists the great help of stunt drivers, gliding through tight corners with ease. You certainly need all kinds of practice to perform this one. With Edgar Wrights brilliant direction, the frenetic sequence comes together thanks to some skilled and fearless technicians.

#3: Falling Down Stairs

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)

You shouldnt bet against John Wick. He fights and shoots his way up a long staircase, but even the unstoppable force meets his match. The exhausted hero gets launched back down to where he started. Wick ends up flying back down the stairs, rolling and taking brutal hits on the way down. You feel for the stunt man as they sell each and every moment. Not only do they fall, they make it look excruciating. It might be one of the assassins more brutal injuries in the film. Making it all look authentic, the performer takes it like a champ.

#2: Marching Band

Jackass Forever (2022)

For every installment of Jackass, the guys seem to find new ways to hurt themselves. This particular segment finds them jumping on a high-speed treadmill. Wearing band gear and carrying instruments, the group launches towards a hard surface. Most of them hit hard before flying off the exercise equipment. As opposed to a regular movie stunt, these performers take it all on the chin with few safety concerns. Steve-O even gets medical attention after a head injury. Its entertaining, darkly hilarious, and cringe worthy to watch. Jackass Forever doesnt disappoint with its outrageous feats of courageous stupidity.

#1: Bike Off a Cliff

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)

In the Mission: Impossible films in particular, Tom Cruise puts his body on the line for our entertainment. The series is the gold standard for the stars stunt work. Dead Reckoning Part One allows him to once again play with gravity, but this time hes not just holding onto a plane. The seventh entry features a wild scene where he drives a motorcycle off a cliff. After zooming into a freefall, he ditches the bike and opens a parachute. Few actors working today are willing to do their own stunts or train for them to this degree. Not only did he do the work, he had to perform the maneuver multiple times.
