Top 10 Funniest Daytime TV FAILS
#10: Grumpy Cat Meltdown
One of the most famous internet celebrities of the 2010s was easily the adorable cat, Grumpy Cat. She became huge on account of her hilariously grumpy expression. The feline became so popular that she was interviewed on Australia’s “Today” show. It’s since been immortalised in internet history, as the reporter could not keep it together. He lasted about a minute before laughing so hard he began crying, and we can’t blame him - Grumpy Cat’s expression is pure gold. People believe he was laughing at the absurdity of interviewing a cat, but it looked like a once-in-a-lifetime interview to us.
#9: Pussy Get Out of My Pants
The Australian “Today” show has made it onto our list two times in a row, and both times involve cats. As part of a Friday feel-good story, they showed a few clips of cats having fun with clothes. Almost immediately, the host absent-mindedly makes this comment, which breaks the whole panel completely. Karl Stefanovic, from the prior entry, once again can’t maintain his composure. It’s so amusing, it sounds like you can even hear the off-screen crew giggling. Thankfully, one of them manages to keep it together well enough to close the segment.
#8: Reporter vs Anchor
It’s not unusual for coworkers to rub each other the wrong way, but it is for this to happen live on television. Reporter Dick Oliver was doing a news report interviewing tenants upset with their landlord, but anchor Jim Ryan was unhappy with the questions he asked. It turned into one of the most tense interactions in a news segment. It’s only eased by the woman who was being interviewed, who you can see giggling in the background at what’s happening before her. Following the incident, the station refused to let the pair talk about it to journalists, so this dispute’s background may never be public.
#7: Artichoke Dip
Not all of us have the confidence to bring food we’ve cooked ourselves into work, especially when what you’ve cooked tastes terrible. This clip shows Global News Calgary host Leslie Horton letting her co-hosts try her homemade artichoke dip. It’s so poor quality that Horton refuses to eat it herself. One of her co-anchors eats a heroic dose of her dip on a cracker, then starts gagging live on air, looking uncomfortably close to puking. People online speculate that the reason the hosts found it so rancid was on account of her using artichokes marinated in vinegar, leading to the burning sensation they all felt.
#6: Shopping Network Host Drops Priceless Item
Shopping channels will very rarely sell genuinely rare collector's items, and on even more rare occasions, they’ll break them before you can place a bid. Here we have an example of exactly that happening. A museum curator was their guest, and he was showing off a one-of-a-kind wax cylinder they were selling. Unfortunately, it smashes into pieces by mistake. At first, you will probably feel sorry for the old man. Don’t worry about him, though; a later podcast revealed it was a prank everyone was in on except the host, explaining his awkward, giggly response.
#5: Wheel of Fortune
There have been countless failures on “Wheel of Fortune” since it first aired in 1975, over half a century ago. It’s easy to make mistakes when you’re put on the spot like contestants are, but some are massively perplexing, such as this answer from a Christmas edition. He was tasked with filling in two blank letters of the last word, to figure out the phrase “chocolates, chestnuts, & chimneys.” It’s not exactly easy, because otherwise they wouldn’t be asking it, but the response he gave made little sense. Firstly, because he mispells chicken, and secondly, because barely anyone associates chickens with Christmas.
#4: Kathie Lee Drops Puppy
Puppies are exceedingly challenging animals to film, as they’re full of energy but lack training. On the “Today” show in 2012, a group of adorable puppies was brought on as part of a segment about pet adoption. Host Kathie Lee decided to pick one up for a cuddle, but then they got way too excited, and jumped straight out of her hands. Thankfully, the puppy was fine, but it looked painful. People criticised her for how she handled the dog, but others defended her by saying the puppy was just too giddy, and jumped of its own will.
#3: Price Is Right Contestant Breaks Ankle
“The Price Is Right” first broadcast over 50 years ago, so it’s only natural for it to have featured a plethora of failures. One of its most infamous was when they accidentally revealed the secret prize too early in the 80s. A debatably more embarrassing fail came in 2014, when the comically large wheel got the best of contestant Judy. She ended up falling over so badly that she injured her ankle. They quickly cut to commercials, then she had to be given crutches to get through the remainder of the episode.
#2: Guy Goma Interview
This historic blunder made by the BBC turned into one of the funniest interviews in news history. In 2006, Guy Goma applied to work in the BBC’s IT department. While waiting at reception for his interview, he was mistaken for Guy Kewney, an expert being interviewed about Apple Computers. A producer simply asked Goma if he was “Guy”, then he responded yes, and within minutes, he was being interviewed on national television. Rather than admitting he was here for something else, he instead decided to answer the questions to the best of his ability. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the job in the end, outraging many viewers who believed he did a brilliant job under pressure, leading them to even start a petition.
#1: Children Interrupt BBC News
Professor Robert Kelly is a political analyst who works at Pusan National University in South Korea. In 2017, he and his family became globally famous after this hilarious BBC World News interview. Midway through, one of his children comes dancing in, completely unaware he’s on live TV. Then, his even younger child cruises in, and the cherry on the cake is his wife rushing to extract them both. It became so famous that the whole family was brought back for an interview later, and the kids made even more noise in that one than in their initial appearance.
