#10: Yelawolf

He has fast rap skills and the singing voice of an angel. This Gadsden, Alabama native brings the southern Dixie sound to his rap music. He has collaborated with popular rockers and rappers alike, and signed on to Eminem’s Shady Records in 2011. Yelawolf’s fast rap speed has given him Chopper status—a style of rap that has a very fast flow. He has contributed to songs with some of the fastest rappers around. In Tech N9ne’s “Worldwide Choppers,” Yelawolf’s rap speed averages around 6.87 syllables per second. His fast raps with clear lyrics are also mixed with soulful melodies, which helps make Yelawolf’s sound stand out.

#9: Twisted Insane

If you try to rap along with this Chopper, your brain might implode. Originally from San Diego, California, Twisted Insane is one of the fastest rappers around. In “The Chop Shop,” he makes other fast rap look downright leisurely in comparison. Similarly, his verse in “Visions” is almost impossible to keep up with, and in Tech N9ne’s “Worldwide Choppers,” he practically crams an entire song’s worth of words into 15 seconds. Despite Twisted’s breakneck speed, you can still understand him—for the most part—making him a top-notch Chopper.

#8: Watsky

This guy makes other rappers look about as fast as dial-up internet. A writer, poet, and hip-hop artist from San Francisco, California,Watsky made a splash after showing off his fast-rap skills online when he shared his video, “Pale Kid Raps Fast”. Starting out as a slam poet in high school, Watsky eventually turned his poetry skills into musical masterpieces. He has since released popular alternative hip-hop songs that have very speedy spitting and millions of views on YouTube. Like many rappers, his knack for poetry helps make him a talented lyricist, and although he’s fast, he’s also articulate.

#7: R.A. the Rugged Man

So the saying goes, it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill. This Suffolk County, New York, native started rapping at the age of 12. His early start helped him master his notably fast rap speed. R.A.’s style includes using alliteration and a double-time flow, which is rapping at a rhythm twice as fast as the song’s beat.  He shows off his skills with fellow Choppers, Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko, in the song “Holla-Loo-Yuh.” He’s also got lungs of steel, and is able to rap consistently for long periods of time. He blew fans away with his non-stop verse in “Uncommon Valor,” a song he wrote with hip-hop duo Jedi Mind Tricks.

#6: Daveed Diggs

How does an underground rapper from Oakland, California, win a Tony? This triple-threat actor, rapper, and singer from the experimental hip-hop group "clipping" chopped up the stage on Broadway. In his dual-role performance in Hamilton, Diggs wowed the audience with his performance in the song, “Guns and Ships,” rapping  a record-breaking 19 words in three seconds. Off Broadway, Daveed’s raps get even more intense and thought provoking, combining both spoken word and rap over a base of experimental and industrial production.

#5: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Combining fast raps with smooth melodies to bring you one hell-of-a style. This influential hip-hop group from Cleveland, Ohio, started out when they were teens hanging out in a basement.  As their group evolved, they earned recognition as part of the original Midwest Choppers, and eventually became known around the globe. All of the original Bones have fast verses throughout various songs, including “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”, “East 1999”, and “1st of Tha Month”. These original Choppers have certainly made a lasting impression on hip-hop.

 #4: Tech N9ne

Named after a semi-automatic gun, this rapper’s punchy rapid-fire verses truly live up to his title. Tech started rapping at a young age, mastering his fast-rapping style with acute acceleration and alliteration.  Coming from Kansas City, Missouri, the Midwest Chopper brought the style to a whole new level, collaborating with rappers from around the world to bring you his song “Worldwide Choppers.”Tech N9ne consistently raps at lightning speed, or at least at the “Speed of Sound”, making his name synonymous with Chopper rap.

#3: Busta Rhymes

Busta raised the bar on spitting bars. This popular actor, producer, and of course, rapper from Brooklyn, New York, is best known for his unique style of rhyming, where he places words and rhymes in the unlikeliest of places. Busta’s no slouch in the speed department, and can average a speed of 143 words a minute.  His most popular and influential fast verse is in his song “Break Ya Neck,” which has been imitated by other rappers online. Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” also features Busta rapping at a mind-blowing speed.

#2: Eminem

This rap god worked to earn his title. The lyrical genius from Detroit, Michigan, swept a whole generation off their feet with his rap style and skills. He even managed to break a world record with his music. Eminem’s song "Rap God" made the Guinness World Records in 2015 for Most Words in a Hit Single. The song skillfully crams 1,560 words into six minutes and three seconds. He’s also shown off his own brand of chopper rap on the Tech N9ne song, “Speedom”. And although he’s fast, his lyrics are still coherent enough to offend your parents.

#1: Twista

The original tongue twister, Chopper rap might not be where it is today without him. This rapper from Chicago, Illinois, played a big role in the emergence of Midwest Chopper rap. His fast-rapping style landed him in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records for Fastest Rapper in History, where he was recognized for being able to rap 598 syllables in 55 seconds. His debut single “Mr. Tung Twista” reaches speeds that most rappers can’t achieve in their entire career, and he hasn’t slowed down since, with songs like “Heartbeat,” and ”Talk to Me” keeping the pedal to the medal. Twista’s rhymes will leave your head spinning.
