Written by Alex Crilly-Mckean Top 10 E3 2017 Predictions Gamers rejoice; it’s that time of the year again. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the top ten E3 2017 predictions. For this list, we’ll be looking at the possible reveals we’re expecting to see at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, based on both circulating rumours and, in some cases, a pinch of wishful thinking.

#10: “Borderlands 3”

The 10 HARDEST Borderlands Boss Fights

While we’ve had various spin-offs to satisfy our cravings, it’s about time for Gearbox’s bombastically hilarious Sci-Fi FPS RPG to return to the forefront. We wouldn’t be surprised to see an official trailer and maybe even some gameplay at this year’s expo. Here’s hoping they’re able to grasp what made Borderlands 2 such a success with its signature wit, unforgettable characters and balls to the wall action. Granted, Gearbox needs to hit this one out of the park, what with Battleborn failing to live up to expectations. But hey, that tech demo at GDC looked pretty awesome, so we still have high hopes.

#9: “Death Stranding”

Also in:

Saddest Video Game Death of All Time - Aerith

We’re behind Hideo Kojima one hundred per cent. No one can dispute his legend status, having crafted the incredible Metal Gear franchise. On top of that, the legal dispute with Konami somehow made this industry behemoth the underdog – how could you not want to see Death Stranding succeed? That being said… we need a tad more info about this project, as the trailers have somehow made things less clear. Don’t get us wrong, we love the atmosphere, and we even love those disturbing trailers. We just need to see some gameplay, or even a bit of info about the plot so we can know what we’re supposed to be excited about. Hopefully, E3 2017 will deliver.

#8: “The Last of Us Part 2”

Also in:

10 Predictions For The Last of Us Part 3

We were driven to tears by the original, and just when we thought we had gotten over it, Naughty Dog drops a trailer that opened up the floodgates all over again. While its release date is supposedly a long way off, we’re at least hoping to get a bit more information about the plot to fill in at least some of the questions raised by the trailer. Where’s Joel? Who is Elle hunting down? What happened to the Fireflies? The only thing we’re sure of is whatever glimpses we get are bound to be as harrowing as they are exhilarating.

#7: “VR Viability”

Also in:

8 Predictions for Mortal Kombat 1

It’s no secret that virtual reality has found its niche in gaming culture, giving us both hits and misses in terms of titles as well as showing off its compatibility with games like Resident Evil 7. That being said, it’s astronomical pricing and slim catalogue of games doesn’t make it everyone’s first choice. Hopefully this year’s E3 will not only give us a slew of new and interesting releases, but also the hope that going forward more and more mainstream titles will become compatible. We’re all waiting on Fallout 4 VR here guys.

#6: “Kingdom Hearts III”

Also in:

The 10 BEST Kingdom Hearts Worlds

Seriously, we’ll take anything at this point. While Square Enix seems to be content letting loose various remixes, remasters, and every other kind of reinvention of previous entries, all we have to go on for the definitive third instalment of this acclaimed series is a handful of trailers. While it’s starting to look like Kingdom Hearts 3 might be the new Half Life 3, we can still speculate that E3 would be the perfect platform for them to release some gameplay footage, a new lengthier trailer and maybe, just maybe, even a release date.

#5: “Bayonetta 3”

Also in:

The 10 HARDEST Bayonetta Bosses

You can’t keep a good witch down. With two kickass games under her belt, the second of which being one of the Wii U’s must-have games, it stands to reason that with the release of the Nintendo Switch that the Left Eye of the World will return in all her sensual splendour. Aside from her popularity, the success of her franchise and the downright ridiculous amounts of fun her games bring to the fold, Platinum Games should really be giving her next instalment their all and get it out into the world for all to see at E3. You know, since Scalebound got cancelled?

#4: “Cyberpunk 2077”

Also in:

10 Things To Know Before Playing Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

It’s being developed by the guys who made critically-acclaimed and fan adored Witcher series, it’s set in a sprawling cyberpunk-inspired metropolis, and it’s supposed to be even bigger in size than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Yeah, we’re sold. That being said, we’re still eager to see CD Projekt RED give us just a taste of what we’re in for. Whether it be a longer story-driven trailer or just the tiniest taste of actual gameplay, we know we’re going to be in for an expansive and gratuitous-sci-fi-sex-scene extravaganza when we finally do get to see what they’re cooking up over in Poland.

#3: “Metroid Prime 4”

Also in:

Every Metroid Game RANKED

If there’s one character that is in desperate need of video game redemption, it’s Samus Aran. Not including her guest appearances in Super Smash Bros, the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter more than deserves her due after the catastrophe that was Other M. Rumours have been circulating that Retro Studios, the team that gave us the original Prime trilogy, could be working on a new instalment. With no better platform than this year’s E3 to show it off, all we can hope for is a return to form with intricate boss fights, brilliant FPS controls and a Samus who is as deadly as she is silent. A Metroid game built for the switch? We’re in.

#2: “New Bethesda IP”

Also in:

The Top 10 E3 2018 Predictions - Deconstructed!

While we’re grateful for their support on projects like Prey and Dishonoured 2, and would love nothing more than to see some new trailers or gameplay footage for the next games in The Elder Scrolls or Fallout series, it’s the rumours of a new IP that has us in eager anticipation of Bethesda’s E3 press conference. Rumours were sparked by this interesting piece of marketing material that features all of Bethesda’s existing IP with two sections of the park blocked off. We can’t wait to see Bethesda get back into the driver’s seat and spearhead a brand new game that’s sure to take our collective breaths away. Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honourable mentions. “Super Smash Bros for Switch” “Bloodborne 2” “More Nintendo Third Party Support”

#1: “Project Scorpio”

Also in:

Ex Telltale Devs Are Making a Secret Project

Could this be the console of the future? At last year’s E3, Microsoft teased audiences by promising a hardware refresh of the Xbox One, currently going under the name of Project Scorpio. With the promise of dethroning other contenders as “the most powerful console ever made” along with the claims of zero scaling down on a game’s resolution as well as a higher performance than the PlayStation Pro, Scorpio talks a big game. Despite exclusive titles being up in the air at the moment, there’s no denying how eager we are to see its actual design as well as the official name. Our money is on Xbox Prime.
