Top 10 Digimon Digivolution Scenes

Top 10 Digimon Digivolution Scenes
VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
Written by Alex Crilly-Mckean

Grab hold of your Digivices, it's about to get real. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we are counting down our picks for the top ten Digimon Digivolution scenes.

For this list, we'll be looking at the most iconic scenes from the Digimon franchise when a character ascended to a higher form by means of Digivolution. And as usual, all series are fair game.

Special thanks to our user ArtsyChic and Ashjbow for submitting the idea on our interactive suggestion tool: WatchMojo.comsuggest

#10: Susanoomon

While initially looking like they had him on the ropes, the Legendary Warriors fell short when the ungodly Lucemon took on its monstrous Shadowlord Form. Despite their best efforts, it seemed like nothing could prevent it from entering the human world, that is until they resorted to that classic Digimon trope; fusion. By combining all ten Ancient Spirits, the warriors merged into a single being known as Susanoomon, who wasted no time in displaying its power by dragging Lucemon back into the Digital World.

#9: Hououmon & Seraphimon

Aside from being the ultimate nostalgia trip for fans, the tri movies manage to give each character a time to shine and a Mega form for their digimon. The highlight for us has to be the skirmish against the revived Dark Master Machinedramon, who destructive abilities nearly put the kibosh on Sora and Biyomon. However, his arsenal has nothing on the power of love, as with Sora’s encouragement Biyomon managed to transform into the fearsomely feathered Hououmon. Not one to stay out of a battle, Patamon also throws himself into the fray, going from winged rodent to armoured angel of awesomeness. As if that wasn’t enough, even HerculesKabuterimon turns up to get some of the action. It’s like a digivolution-palooza!

#8: Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode

Want more fusion? We’ll give you more fusion! Totally outgunned when pitted against the amalgamation of evil that is MegaDarknessBagramon, our heroes needed to pull out one hell of a miracle in order to survive. Luckily for them, there’s no villain big enough that can match the Final Fusion. By combining himself with every single Digimon to ever exist, Shoutman transforms himself into a being of unequivocal power, one who manages to take out his demonic foe in a single blow.

#7: Gallantmon

Following Leomon’s tragic death at the hands of Beelzemon, Takato and Guilmon almost lost themselves to their own hatred. After realising their mistake, the two renew their faith in one another and vow to fight as one. This triggers what would become the first of many Bio-Merges, where tamer and Digimon become one being. In this instance, it creates the knight known as Gallantmon. And boy does he have a bone to pick. We also have to give a shout-out to the time he suited up for the battle against the D-Reaper, donning the armour his flying steed to become Gallantmon Crimson Mode.

#6: Omnimon

It can’t be denied that the battle royal against a million Diaboromon was pretty epic. Overwhelmed by the virus Digimon’s sheer numbers, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon are brought to death’s door. However, after Tai and Matt manage to enter the world wide web, they give their partners the inner strength needed to continue on the fight, resulting in the two of them fusing together to become Omnimon. With their combined power, the digital white knight makes short work of the virus. Mostly via a giant cannon.

#5: Angewomon

Walking the thin like between villainous henchwoman and sympathetic feline, Gatoman certainly stood apart from the others as a far more complex creature. Upon finding a partner in Kari as well as losing her beloved friend Wizardmon, she completed her journey to the side of good by digivolving into the graceful yet powerful Angewomon. The radiant shift from cat to heavenly figure took a lot of us by surprise, even more so when she managed to snipe down the series’ big bad with just a single arrow.

#4: Imperialdramon Paladin Mode

Diaboromon’s return certainly was an explosive one. After digivolving into the titanic Armageddemon, it ran rampart across the real world, even overcoming the duo of Imperialdramon and Omnimon. With barely any hope left, the Digidestined have only one trump card left to play…more fusions! Channelling all its strength, Omnimon forges the Omega Sword, a weapon that re-energises Imperialdramon as well as elevating him that of Paladin Mode. From that point on, not even a walking digital extinction event like Armageddemon had much of a chance.

#3: ShineGreymon Burst Mode

While fusions often seem to be the motif that Digidestined and their Digimon incorporate to win the day, in this instance the tables were turned as the cast of Digimon Data Squad found themselves facing against a hideous mesh of their two mortal enemies. With the mad mind of Dr Kurata literally lurking in the belly of the beast, the monstrous Belphemon easily overcame our heroes. Not one to give up the fight, Marcus and ShineGreymon managed to gain a form even beyond that of Mega through the power of Burst Mode. Something that even the good doctor can’t wrap his giant head around.

#2: WarGreyMon&MetalGarurumon

The fall of Myotismon, followed by his swift return in the form of VenomMyotismon, remains one of the most thrilling moments in the whole franchise. Not only because his new look was downright demented, but it gave rise to the fact that there was a level beyond that of Ultimate. One that our heroes themselves could reach. As such, fans were utterly elated when Agumon and Gabumon managed to Warp Digivolve into their strongest states. Remember, this was back in the day before every Digimon and their neighbour seemed to have access to a Mega form, so it was a pretty big deal!

#1: Angemon

Ah, the simple days on File Island, where the only thing the Digidestined had to worry about were mind-controlling gears and a Digimon in the shape of the devil. Jokes aside, Patamon’s first Digivolution into his Champion form was still a momentous occasion. The pipsqueak finally got his due and transformed into a freakin’ warrior angel, even managing to put Digi-Lucifer in his place by telling him to talk to the hand. Throw in an admittedly rather tearful goodbye, and this conclusion to Digimon’s first arc certainly went out on a high, all thanks to this one iconic Digivolution.
