Top 10 Dangerous Animals With the Cutest Babies

Top 10 Dangerous Animals With the Cutest Babies
VOICE OVER: Kirsten Ria Squibb WRITTEN BY: Jesse Singer
These animals may be dangerous, but their babies are too cute. For this list, we'll be looking at the most adorable baby creatures whose species are scarier than they look. Our countdown includes owl, bear, gorilla, and more!

#10: Swan

This animal is a symbol of grace and beauty. So much so that women in America once put themselves through major cosmetic surgery in the hopes of being crowned “The Swan.” And while there’s also the fairy tale idea of the beautiful swan beginning life as an ugly duckling, baby swans, called cygnets, are actually super adorable. Just look at how fuzzy they are! But we wouldn’t suggest trying to touch one, especially if their mom or dad is around. Swans are very protective, and there have even been reports of a man being drowned in an attack, though it’s unclear what prompted the altercation. Maybe just admire these creatures from afar!

#9: Owl

Potterheads know that owls can be very helpful when it comes to delivering the mail at Hogwarts. But did you know they can also be very helpful in controlling pest populations? They’re raptors - predatory birds that capture live prey - generally feeding on small rodents and insects as well as other creatures, like certain mammals and birds. Although as far as we know, they don’t eat Tootsie Pops. But while they grow up to be dangerous head turning hunters, they begin life as some of the cutest little animal babies we’ve ever seen. ‘Hooo’ could ever resist their little faces?

#8: Leopard Seal

Baby leopard seals may be even cuter than the British singer-songwriter. But unlike the Grammy award winner, sea leopards are more likely to hurt you than serenade you with “Kiss from a Rose.” Actually, we wouldn’t suggest kissing leopard seals at all, no matter how hard it is to resist the babies’ big, sweet eyes. Because, while rare, there have been reports of attacks on humans and even one death back in 2003. In fact, leopard seals are so high up on the food chain that their only predators are orcas. It’s like Poison so wisely said, “every rose has its thorn.”

#7: Kangaroo

A baby kangaroo is called a joey. One look at their tiny bodies and even “Friends” fans will have to admit that they’re the most adorable ‘Joeys’ ever. But while it’s true that kangaroos are herbivores, that sure doesn’t make them pushovers. Let’s just say these marsupials aren’t afraid to use their hind legs when they feel the need to fight back. One must be extra careful around them, as they earned a reputation for injuring those who come too close. You definitely won’t like it if they start violently attacking you, either. Talk about a “how you doin’?”

#6: Bear

There’s a reason why most kids have a toy teddy bear. They’re just so darn adorable. But even the fluffiest stuffed animal doesn’t come close to competing with the real thing. The cuddly factor is simply off the hook with bear cubs. However, when all grown up, bears - from the grizzly to the panda - can cause harm, especially if they sense danger. Certain species, such as brown and polar, are more commonly understood to be dangerous. But if you thought pandas could only hurt bamboo trees, think again! Still, no matter what sort of bear you’re dealing with, you can bet their babies will make your heart swell.

#5: Slow Loris

Hire Slow, Fire Fast?

These animals might not be super well-known, but there’s no doubting the crazy cuteness of slow loris babies. With their big eyes and furry bodies, they look like the perfect innocent little pocket-sized companions! But you know what they say, looks can be quite deceiving. You see, as a species, these primates have a poisonous bite that can be severely harmful or even deadly. But the good news for humans is that they mostly use their venom against each other. Still, obsessing over pictures and videos of the little ones from the safety of your home seems like the way to go.

#4: Gorilla

The late Dian Fossey spent decades extensively interacting with and studying gorillas. And she showed us that, generally, they aren’t aggressive animals. However, it’s also true that they will attack if they feel threatened by people. They also happen to be some of the biggest primates on the planet, and could take down pretty much anyone they wanted. The parents have the size and strength to destroy people. But their offspring - called infants - have an adorableness factor that’ll stop you in your path and bring you to your knees.

#3: Hyena

All we can think about is how could such an adorable animal baby grow up to one day try and kill Simba? Sure, they’re funny in “The Lion King,” but hyenas are no laughing matter in the real world. They have jaws powerful enough to crush through bone and stomach acid strong enough to break it all down when they do. But with that being said we once again return to those hyena cubs and their faces that could warm any heart. If you ever come across one though, it’s definitely not a good idea to go in for a hug, no matter how much you want to!

#2: Wolf

In this case, when we talk about how lovable wolves are we aren’t acknowledging our allegiance to “team Jacob.” Instead, we’re declaring our fondness for the likes of baby wolves. And can you blame us? It’s as if the word adorable was created just for them. Furry and playful, they can’t help but remind one of little dogs - which makes sense given that they’re canines and their offspring are called pups. However, as cute as they are, they’re still wild animals. But while you won’t be able to befriend them, you can live vicariously through Bella Swan and her werewolf pals!

#1: Hippopotamus

Sure, cute probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you think of hippos. In fact, you’re probably going to start by thinking of terms like “big.” And board game lovers will of course visualize marbles and instantly jump to “hungry.” But have you ever seen a baby hippo? Because we’re pretty sure that one look at these little guys and you’ll start reevaluating how you see them. However, we also can’t forget that these baby hippos grow up to be what BBC news once called “the world's deadliest large land mammal.” Hey, it’s all about balance, right?!
