VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Nathan Sharp
Ah, you've gotta love all that petty celebrity drama. For this list, we're looking at the top 10 celebrity feuds of the last decade. Our countdown includes Eminem, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Madonna and more!
Script Written by Nathan Sharp

#10: Eminem vs. Machine Gun Kelly

Eminem has found himself the subject of a few diss tracks in recent years. (xref) Starting in December 2019, Nick Cannon has released four (count ‘em, four) diss tracks aimed at Eminem. And Em hasn’t responded to a single one. Maybe he doesn’t find Cannon worth the effort. But he did find time for Machine Gun Kelly, who infamously released “Rap Devil” in September 2018. Eminem responded with “Killshot,” one of the fiercest and most popular diss tracks ever released. It buried Kelly in the public eye, and Em was universally declared the “winner” of the rap battle. However, they still seem to be beefing, as Em called Kelly a nastyname at a 2019 Brisbane concert and mentioned Kelly in his 2020 song “Unaccomodating.”

#9: Lana Del Rey vs. Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks is infamous for her many feuds, and in October 2018, she found herself in a fiery social media battle with Lana Del Rey. It all began after Del Rey went after Kanye West for wearing a MAGA hat and supporting Donald Trump in a tweet. Banks in turn called Del Rey a hypocrite for working with A$AP Rocky (who has been accused of hitting women), resulting in a vicious Twitter feud between the two artists. What followed were threats of physical violence, claims of plastic surgery, Del Rey saying that Banks’s “psych meds [weren’t] working,” and Banks threatening to sue. It was very catty, very messy, and very entertaining.

#8: Lady Gaga vs. Madonna

The Madonna-Gaga feud has spanned the entire decade, beginning when Gaga released “Born This Way” in 2011. Madonna’s fans noticed its similarities with “Express Yourself,” and Madonna herself felt that Gaga had “blatantly ripped off one of [her] songs.” While the two artists briefly mentioned each other in the press a few times throughout the following years, the feud mostly simmered down until 2018, when Gaga supposedly plagiarized Madonna once again. While promoting “A Star Is Born,” Gaga said a phrase that was strikingly similar to something Madonna had said back in 1989 - and Madonna was quick to catch on. Luckily, the beef seems to have been squashed, as the two were photographed acting quite chummy at Madonna’s Oscars afterparty in 2019.

#7: Nicki Minaj vs. Cardi B

The Minaj and Cardi beef started around the summer of 2017, when Minaj supposedly shaded Cardi and her husband Offset in songs like “Swish Swish” and “No Flag.” However, others believed that fans and gossip sites were reading too much into the so-called drama. This was seemingly confirmed when Minaj congratulated Cardi for hitting number one with “Bodak Yellow.” However, things got really heated in August 2018 when Minaj allegedly blocked Cardi on Twitter. The feud came to blows the following month when Cardi and Nicki were filmed having a physical altercation. Cardi states that Minaj had supposedly criticized her parenting, while Minaj simply stated “Get this woman some f---ing help.”

#6: Solange vs. Jay-Z

Now, if you want to talk physical altercations, let’s talk Solange and Jay-Z! The famous throwdown occured at a Met Gala afterparty in 2014. The security camera footage of Solange going ham on Jay-Z went viral, and everyone and their mothers were speculating on what exactly caused the fight. However, the family kept things private, releasing a joint statement saying that they had talked and “worked through it.” This was again confirmed by Jay-Z during an interview with Elliott Wilson and Brian Miller when he said, “We’ve had one disagreement. Before and after, we’ve been cool.” The reason behind the fight remains unknown, although theories range from “publicity stunt” to Jay-Z’s infidelity.

#5: Dwayne Johnson vs. Vin Diesel

If you think super macho dudes don’t partake in petty drama, then think again! Hilariously dubbed the “Candy Ass” feud, this altercation began when The Rock posted a veiled and ambiguous post on Instagram highlighting “chicken shit” and “candy ass” male co-stars. Details remained shadowed (aside from hints of a “bad attitude” and persistent tardiness), but it soon became clear that Johnson was talking about Vin Diesel. The feud was allegedly so bad that the actors refused to shoot “The Fate of the Furious” together, and their single shared scene was crafted with some sly editing. Luckily, it seems like the two have moved on from whatever was causing them consternation, with Johnson even calling Diesel “Brother Vin” in a 2019 Instagram video. So, they’re like a real family after all!

#4: Mariah Carey vs. Nicki Minaj

The “American Idol” producers knew exactly what they were doing with this inspired bit of casting. Carey and Minaj’s feud persisted throughout season twelve of “American Idol,” with both contestants and viewers being keenly aware of their bitter rivalry. It was even reported that Minaj had physically threatened Carey by stating that she would “shoot” her, but Minaj has denied the allegations. Regardless, it was clear that the two did not get along. Carey would later negatively reflect on her stint, saying, “It was like going to work every day in Hell with Satan.” So... she didn’t enjoy it, then?

#3: Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift

Who knew backup dancers could cause so much animosity? This feud began when Katy Perry hired some of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers for her Prism tour. This was a major insult to Swift, as she told Rolling Stone that “[Katy] did something so horrible” that they became “straight-up enemies.” According to Swift, Perry’s move jeopardized her entire arena tour. She also released “Bad Blood” as a supposed thinly-veiled attack on Perry. Perry’s response is thought to be a tweet likening Swift to “Mean Girls”’ Regina George and making her own diss track with “Swish Swish.” The feud ended when Perry sent a literal olive branch to Swift in 2018, a gift she gladly accepted. Perry later cameoed in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video, a clear symbol of their reconciliation.

#2: Drake vs. Pusha T

It seems like Drake is a bit of an outsider in the hip hop community. (xref) Throughout the decade he has beefed with numerous artists, including Kanye West, Diddy, Meek Mill, Kid Cudi, DMX, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z! But his juiciest beef is arguably with Pusha T. The pair have been apparently embroiled in a personal rivalry since 2012 and have shared numerous diss tracks. Pusha has accused Drake of using ghostwriters, and things culminated into something very personal with “The Story of Adidon,” a scathing diss track claiming that Drake had secretly fathered a child with a former adult star. Drake never responded to the diss track, but he did discuss fatherhood throughout Scorpion.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Orlando Bloom vs. Justin Bieber

Martha Stewart vs. Gwyneth Paltrow

Kim Kardashian vs. Chloë Grace Moretz

Chris Christie vs. Snooki

Miley Cyrus vs. Nicki Minaj

#1: Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West & Kim Kardashian

Kanye West infamously interrupted Taylor Swift back in 2009, and the resulting feud is still ongoing. Despite a brief respite, Swift and West were back at it in 2016 when West dropped “Famous,” a song that included the line, “I made that bitch famous” in reference to Swift. West claimed that Swift knew about the line, which she in turn denied. This prompted Kim Kardashian to release a recording that has Kanye allegedly discussing the song and its contents with Swift. To be clear, however, the specific “bitch” line is never mentioned on-camera, but Swift was nevertheless deemed a “liar” and a “snake” on social media. It’s a feud that has long divided listeners and seems unlikely to end anytime soon.
