Top 10 Celebrities Who Can Never Stay in a Relationship

Glamorous and intriguing, these are the beauties you may’ve missed while you were reading the articles. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 celebrities in Playboy. For this list we will only discussing women who made a name for themselves prior to their posing for Playboy. We will be excluding Playmates of the Month or Year because they are for a list for another day.

#10: Elle Macpherson May, 1994

Although she’d already graced the covers of Elle, Cosmo, and more, and would go on to have a record five Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition covers, nothing caused the same stir as Elle Macpherson’s appearance in Playboy. Following the release of the film “Sirens,” which features an often unclothed Macpherson, demand for nude photos of the six-foot-tall Australian beauty were at an all-time high. When certain outlets made invasive and creepy attempts to obtain said photos, the model opted to address the issue and release them herself by way of a Playboy pictorial.

#9: Kim Basinger February, 1983

1983 proved to be a big year for Basinger. Having already appeared in films like “Hard Country” and “Mother Lode,” the actress won her breakthrough role as Domino Petachi in the unofficial Bond film “Never Say Never Again” alongside Sean Connery. To help promote the Thunderball remake, Basinger bared it all in the February edition of Playboy. The former model cites her pictorial as helping in landing her next important film role in “The Natural,” for which Basinger earned a Golden Globe.

#8: Brooke Shields December, 1986

As she was already an established model with a reported earning potential of $10,000 per day, it was inevitable that Shields would eventually appear in Playboy. And, in fact, a highly controversial photo of the child star at the age of 10 did appear in one of Playboy’s subsidiary magazines in the early-‘80s, around the time she became famous for “The Blue Lagoon” and her provocative Calvin Klein ads. But, when she posed for Playboy at the age of 21, things were far more aboveboard.

#7: Sharon Stone July, 1990

Once describing herself as a “cute young girl with a nice ass who was a terrible actress,” Stone worked to improve her chops and eventually graduated from bit parts in “Magnum, P.I.” and “T.J. Hooker” to her first major role in “Total Recall.” To help promote the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led film, the eventual “Basic Instinct” actress turned to Playboy and showed off her taekwondo-toned 32-year-old body. Later, the magazine rated Stone as one of the 25 sexiest stars of the century.

#6: Pamela Anderson October, 1989

While Anderson didn’t write the book on Playboy’s Greatest Covers, she did write the foreword. Literally. Known as much for her ‘90s love life as she is for her acting work; Anderson was a fitness instructor when she was discovered at a Canadian Football League game, wearing a t-shirt sporting a Labatt’s Beer logo. Soon after, the brewery cast her in a series of ads, which led to her first appearance in Hugh Hefner’s mag. Since then the blonde bombshell has appeared on more covers than anyone, including her most recent shots in 2011.

#5: Madonna September, 1985

In a way, wouldn’t it be more surprising if Madonna hadn’t been in Playboy? While the Material Girl did grace the cover of the magazine, she hadn’t really intended to. With two albums under her garter and her star rising by 1985, nude photos she had done for quick cash in the late-‘70s began to surface, commanding as much as $100,000. A number of those photos also appeared in Penthouse magazine that same year. Sketchy pics aside, the September 1985 issue is also notable among collectors as the last stapled issue.

#4: Bo Derek March, 1980

While she had first gained notoriety for her relationship with the much older John Derek when she was in her teens, Bo made her first big splash in the Dudley Moore comedy, “10.” Derek quickly followed this with an appearance in Playboy proving she was, in fact, a 10. The cornrowed goddess would feature on two covers that year and would appear again in September of 1981. Although her film career never again hit the same heights, Derek’s status as simply beautiful has never been challenged.

#3: Raquel Welch December, 1979

By 1979, Welch had pretty much permanently been on the hotness radar since the mid-‘60s. Gaining fame from “One Million Years B.C.” and its infamous deer skin bikini, Raquel soon became a sex symbol; a status she felt was on par with being a convict. Regardless, Playboy declared the actress the most desired woman of the ‘70s, and was finally able to score a date with her just before the decade ended, flaunting her in the December 1979 issue.

#2: Cindy Crawford July, 1988

While she may have appeared on over 600 magazine covers throughout her career, only two of those were Playboy. First appearing in the July 1988 issue, Crawford became the first supermodel of the modern era to pose for the magazine. Crawford has said she will only pose topless if she is comfortable with the photographer, which is why the model used photographer Herb Ritts for both her 1988 and 1998 pictorials. The magazine later ranked the former House of Style host the 5th sexiest star of the 20th century. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Goldie Hawn January, 1985 - Olivia Munn July/August, 2009 - Denise Richards December, 2004 - Farrah Fawcett July, 1997 - Drew Barrymore January, 1995

#1: Marilyn Monroe December, 1953

Although she was the most famous face ever to grace the cover of Playboy, Monroe didn’t actually pose for the magazine. However, when photos of the original blonde bombshell hit the market in the magazine’s first issue, it sold out almost instantly. Interestingly the former Norma Jean was the first “Sweetheart” of the month as the term “Playmate” was not used until the next issue. A testament to both Monroe’s legacy and Hugh Hefner’s endurance, copies of that December ‘53 edition were officially re-issued 60-years later, and Marilyn’s likeness still generates $2 million dollars a year.
