Top 10 Badass Power Upgrades in Anime It’s time to level up. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Badass Power Upgrades in Anime. For this list, we’ll be looking at the times in anime where a protagonist succeeded in one upping their skills and achieved a scale of power far beyond their current state.

#10: Salamander

“Black Clover” (2017-) He might have been trapped in a coma while everything was going to hell with the Elf Invasion, but the Captain of the Crimson Lion Kings still managed to reclaim his swag in record time. While facing off against the Elvish entity residing in his Vice Captain, Fuegoleon demonstrated that not only was he still just as much of a fireball as his lioness of a sister, but now he was packing the de-facto Fire Spirit capable of incinerating even something as fearsome of as an Elf sorcerer.

#9: Gallantmon Crimson Mode

“Digimon Tamers” (2001-02) And you thought Bio-Merge was outside the box. As their battle against the D-Reaper grows increasingly bleak, Takato and Guilmon find themselves with an unexpected ace in the hole when Grani offers the last of its life force. In doing so, Gallantmon gains a new set of threads, and as such is able to slice its way through the sentient digital blob like paper. Flashy and fearsome, Beezlemon should thank his lucky stars he didn’t have to deal with this scarlet knight during his villain days.

#8: Senketsu-Kisaragi

“Kill la Kill” (2013-14) In order to contend with her wicked mother and her technicolour dream coat of death, Ryuko and her beloved Kamui required some major re-stitching. Absorbing the Life Fibers of Satsuki and all of their friends, the duo were able to craft a new outfit capable of not only taking them into space, but also recovering from literally any blow that Ragyo could dish out at them, to the point where the CEO was left with no option but to take her own life. Apparently, there’s just no beating the power of love and nudity.

#7: Full Cowling

“My Hero Academia” (2016-) Given his age and shorter stature, it’s fair to say that Deku hasn’t quite got to grips with One for All just yet. That’s not to say he’s a push over, as thanks to extensive training and guidance from some veteran heroes, he’s managed to take great strides to make the inherited Quirk all his own. So far, this has come in the form of Full Cowling, wherein instead of focusing all his strength into a single smash, he dilutes the overwhelming force into every part of his body, turning himself into quite the agile spider-monkey capable of bringing the pain at lightspeed.

#6: Godspeed

“Hunter x Hunter” (2011-14) Speaking of lightspeed. Killua’s killing prowess was already top tier due to being a member of the Zoldyck Clan, but thanks to mastering his nen abilities, he managed to turn himself from silent assassin in a human lightning bolt strong enough to even shock the toughest of Chimera Ants. Even without the thunderbolts he can conjure from his fingertips, his speed in this state is so staggering that not even the most skilled members of his family are able to catch up to him. Mess with this little guy and you’re inviting a storm to come your way.

#5: Gear Fourth: Snakeman

“One Piece” (1999-) Just when you thought Luffy had run out of transformations, along comes something like this. With his seemingly unending battle against Katakuri finally reaching its climax, the Straw Hat Captain pushes himself beyond his limits once again in order to best the son of Big Mom and escape the mirror world. How so? By slimming down and kicking it into high gear. While not as drastically different from his regular form as Boundman, his accelerated punches speak for themselves. Able to give out way more punishment for extended periods of time, this particular brand of snakebite proved to be too much for Dogtooth to handle.

#4: Nine-Tails Chakra Mode

“Naruto: Shippuden” (2007-17) A drastic step up from Sage Mode, this aura of demonic chakra is the result of Naruto harnessing most of Kurama’s chakra. He wouldn’t however be able to fully harness the power until later on, when he and the Nine Tailed fox put aside their differences and became all buddy buddy. This in turn gave him access to the Kurama mode, boosting his powers even further and giving him the ability to manifest Kurama’s monstrous form, know as the Tailed Beast mode.

#3: Final Getsuga Tenshou

“Bleach” (2004-12) Who would have guessed the key to defeating Aizen was for Ichigo to unlock his inner edgelord? While something of a deus ex machina depending on who you talk to, it was still quite a sight to see the Substitute Shinigami one shot the self-proclaimed god with but a swing of his sword. Granted this newfound uber-ness came at the cost of his connection to Soul Society, but when you get to own the lord of mullets, isn’t it kind of worth it? Amazing what getting stabbed by a punk-rock version of Zangetsu can accomplish!

#2: Gold Experience Requiem

“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (2018-19) Note to all wannabe gang-stars, stay the hell out of Italy if you know what’s good for you. Otherwise you might just encounter this fashionista kingpin and his Stand, which as of now reigns supreme as the strongest Stand in all of JoJo. After absorbing the power of the arrow for himself, Giorno’s Gold Experience ends up transcending into an entity who doesn’t just have the power to punch time-erasing, daughter-probing assholes into oblivion, but also lock them in an endless cycle of expiration, because he automatically cancels the effect of everything – even death itself.

#1: Perfect Ultra Instinct

“Dragon Ball Super” (2015-18) Not since Goku’s original transformation into a Super Saiyan have we been so excited about our favourite fighter suddenly changing hairstyles. After dipping into the godly force known as Ultra Instinct on multiple occasions, Goku was able to finally unleash this enigmatic energy in all of its silver, shimmering glory. How strong was it? Well, when you can hit so fast and hard that not even Jiren can comprehend it, then you know it’s on a whole other level. It may have been short lived, but to say it made an impact would be universal understatement.
