#10: Tod & Copper vs. the Bear “The Fox and the Hound” (1981)

Former best friends, Tod the fox and Copper the hound have since been pitted against each other. They find an enemy in common, however, when a bear with hell-lit eyes attacks. Knowing that Copper can’t defeat the brute on his own, Tod rushes to the rescue. They engage in a thrilling brawl, resulting in them both plummeting to a misty fate. With Tod wounded from the fall, Copper’s hotheaded master aims to finish him off. But just as Tod saved Copper, Copper stands up for Tod. Get the tissues ready.

#9: Richard Parker vs. the Hyena “Life of Pi” (2012)

Top 10 Things Richard Jewell Got Factually Right and Wrong

A zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and an Indian guy are all stuck in a lifeboat together. That might sound like a setup to a joke, but it’s actually the setup to an intense confrontation from “Life of Pi.” When the vicious hyena mauls the other animals, it appears Pi is dessert. Fortunately, the lifeboat has an unexpected stowaway. Is Pi really better off with a tiger, though? Brutal and shocking, this scene is given another level of depth towards the film’s conclusion, but we wouldn’t spoil that here.

#8: Bambi vs. Ronno “Bambi” (1942)

Top 5 Fun Facts About Bambi

Nature is a lot like high school. One minute you’re just walking on air with your lady friend. The next, some bully is trying to steal your mate. In this masterfully animated sequence from “Bambi,” our hero locks horns with his rival Ronno to defend his beloved Faline. While the shadowy imagery and powerful blend of colors are superb, it’s the electrifying music that really tells the story much like a segment from “Fantasia.” Substituting conventional sound with an orchestra, the composition makes Bambi’s victory that much more glorious.

#7: Lassie vs. Wolf “Lassie” (1994)

Lassie embodies everything that makes a great movie dog. There isn’t an obstacle she can’t overcome, not even a wolf attack. In this 1994 picture starring the iconic canine, a growling beast confronts young Matt in the middle of a thunderstorm. The big, bad wolf is no match for the world’s favorite collie, however, who charges in to save the day yet again. While even the kids in the audience should be able to predict who will win, it’s hard not to get choked up as Lassie returns to her owner.

#6: Ant vs. Scorpion “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” (1989)

Also in:

Top 10 Hilarious Animal Attack Scenes in Movies

“Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” showed us that a pesky ant can also be a lovable animal companion. It’s next to impossible to make a scorpion lovable, though. When the arthropod corners Ron inside a Lego, Antie proves that even the smallest of insects can be a hero. Utilizing state of the art stop-motion effects for the time, the two creatures engage in a surprisingly severe battle that sadly doesn’t have the happiest outcome. Admit it, this movie actually made you cry over a dead ant. Well, at least Antie’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain.

#5: Sharptooth vs. Everyone “The Land Before Time” (1988)

Aside from its life lessons about teamwork and friendship, “The Land Before Time” taught a generation of children that whenever a sharp-toothed Tyrannosaurus shows up, it means shit is about to get real. This carnivorous dinosaur torments our young heroes throughout the entire movie, shattering their tree stars, getting Littlefoot’s mother killed, and almost dragging Petrie with him to a watery extinction. Along with his team of gifted animators, director Don Bluth truly drew up an unspeakably menacing antagonist that rocked the earth wherever he stomped.

#4: Caesar vs. Koba “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014)

The rivalry between Caesar and Koba is practically Shakespearean, often making us forget that the two are primates. However, their strife over the tribe’s leadership amounts to an epic final confrontation in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” Brilliantly staged atop a collapsing tower, the two contend for the alpha male position. The fight leaves Koba’s fate dangling in Caesar’s stinking paws. Although the ape leader briefly considers sparing him, he decides to give his former ape brother a classic villain sendoff. No more monkey business for you, Koba.

#3: Spinosaurus vs. T-Rex “Jurassic Park III” (2001)

On the scale of awesomeness, the Tyrannosaurus Rex tramples over all other dinosaurs. It’s the definitive prehistoric beast and no other creature even comes close in comparison…right? Well, a Spinosaurus actually gives the T-Rex a run for its money in “Jurassic Park III.” Clashing over who will get to eat our annoying human characters, the supposedly underdog Spinosaurus ultimately comes out on top with one radical neck break. While the fight itself is certainly cool, we can all agree that this movie could have used a lot more of Rexy.

#2: Simba vs. Scar “The Lion King” (1994)

Yet another animal rivalry worthy of Shakespeare, Simba and Scar have forever solidified themselves as the animated lion equivalent of Hamlet and Claudius. The final act of “The Lion King” is nothing short of exceptional with every major character getting in on the action. The main conflict, though, rests between our noble hero and cowardly villain as they fight for the figurative crown on Pride Rock’s edge. With blazing imagery, gripping music, and powerful voiceover performances, it’s one of Disney’s best climaxes, not to mention one of their best catfights. Before our top pick enters the ring, here are a few honorable mentions: - Po vs. Tai Lung “Kung Fu Panda” (2008) - T-Rex vs. Stegosaurus “Fantasia” (1940) - Dog Brawl “Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco” (1996) - Cockfight “The Day of the Locust” (1975)

#1: Old Yeller vs. the Wolf “Old Yeller” (1957)

Also in:

Top 10 Monstrous Animal Attack Movie Scenes

Damn-it, Disney! Why must you keep putting innocent animals in harm’s way and leave us bawling like babies? It’s hard to think of an animal fight that had a more tragic conclusion than this infamous scene from “Old Yeller.” Before Travis can take out a rabid wolf with his gun, Old Yeller jumps in to protect his family. The wolf is eventually shot dead, but what about Old Yeller? Well, surely he didn’t get infected with rabies and will live a long…no, Travis, don’t! And our childhoods are forever scarred. Do you agree with our list? What’s your favorite big screen fight scene between animals? For more entertaining Top 10s published every day, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
