If your significant other is a gamer, we have a few ideas for Valentine’s gifts. Welcome to MojoPlays and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Most Anticipated Games of February 2019.
For this video, we’re taking a look at seven games coming out in February we’re ready to fall in love with.
#7: “Trials Rising”
Release Date: February 26, 2019
A motorcycle game might not sound like anything that exciting, but “Trials Rising” isn’t your run-of-the-mill racing title. As its name suggests, the latest entry in the “Trials” franchise subjects players to a series of wild trials set against colorful backdrops, including Mount Everest, the Eiffel Tower, and a Disneyland-esque amusement park. Players are also free to customize their own obstacle courses. In addition to being the fastest, the player needs to master the game’s physics or else they will be sent flying from their bike. Every time your racer eats dirt, chances are you’ll be left screaming in frustration or laughing at the unforgiving brutality. Either way, it’s great fodder for Let’s Play videos.
#6: “The Occupation”
Release Date: February 5, 2019
In an era where every game seems to be a first-person shooter or an open world sandbox, we’re always intrigued when a developer tries something different. “The Occupation” certainly has the potential to be a game-changer based on its cool setup. A stealth thriller set in real time, the player is given four hours to unravel a conspiracy following a terrorist attack. Adding to the sense of urgency, the player’s choices have a real impact on the story, which should inspire multiple playthroughs, especially given the game’s short length. While only time will tell if “The Occupation” can live up to its ambitious premise, it already sounds like everything “24: The Game” should have been.
#5: “Anthem”
Release Date: February 22, 2019
Few modern game developers have inspired more mixed feelings than BioWare. After making some of the best RPGs of all time, the studio flew too close to the sun with “Mass Effect: Andromeda.” Although publisher EA was largely responsible for that massive misfire, “Anthem” may be BioWare’s last chance to get back in the gaming community’s good graces. That being said, “Anthem” certainly looks promising, taking place in a shared open world where up to four players can assume the roles of Freelancers. Whether flying solo or with a squad, your objective is to explore a constantly-changing landscape where choices matter. If “Anthem” delivers the strong characters and involving narratives that made us fall in love with BioWare, this might be 2019’s biggest comeback story.
#4: “Dead or Alive 6”
Release Date: February 15, 2019
Anyone who opted out of buying a Switch in favor of a PS4 or Xbox One is sadly missing out on “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” However, you can still make your Nintendo fans envious with another fighting game. While there have been a few recent “Dead or Alive” games to hold us over, this one marks the franchise’s first main installment since 2012. The time gap between titles shows, as the new engine for this game highlights the visible injuries characters endure throughout fights, making the player feel every punch, kick, and KO. Most notably, the Critical Blow from the “Dead or Alive 5” has been replaced with the Fatal Rush, an auto-combo button that brings the pain once the Break Gauge is full.
#3: “Far Cry New Dawn”
Release Date: February 15, 2019
If you’ve given “Far Cry 5” the completionist treatment and are eager for more, we have just the game for you. Taking place seventeen years later, this spinoff sets itself in Hope County, Montana where people are still picking up the pieces brought on by nuclear war. What’s more, the survivors find themselves at the mercy of twin sisters who helm a ruthless bandit gang called the Highwaymen. Trekking through an open world, the player must recruit new resistance members and liberate enemy camps. Don’t be surprised if you run into a few familiar faces along the way as well. Anyone who enjoyed the previous game’s social commentary will be especially interested to see what happens next in this worst-case scenario representation of modern times.
#2: “Metro Exodus”
Release Date: February 15, 2019
As grim as the post-apocalyptic future in “Far Cry: New Dawn” is, it’s a day at the park compared to the wasteland from the “Metro” franchise. While a film adaptation of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel is still in production limbo, the game series is receiving its third installment. “Metro Exodus” has been on our watch list ever since the chilling trailer was revealed at E3 2017, sending off serious “28 Days Later” vibes. The attention to detail is as astounding as it is unnerving, creating a world we want to explore even though danger lurks around every corner. The trailer showed at the following year’s E3 revealed even more heart-racing footage, revving us up for a survival horror game on an epic scale.
#1: “Crackdown 3”
Release Date: February 15, 2019
“Crackdown 3” sits at the top of our list partly because it’s been on the shelf on for a while now. Originally scheduled to come out in 2016, this Microsoft exclusive endured multiple delays until it was finally confirmed for a February 2019 release. While the numerous setbacks could be seen as a red flag, the game looks like a sheer adrenaline rush nonetheless. In addition to giving players an arsenal of inventive weapons, this action extravaganza comes complete with vehicles that drive up walls and the ability to throw cars across the city! Plus, you’ve got Terry Crews basically playing an even more macho, intense version of himself. How can you go wrong?
