VOICE OVER: Ty Richardson WRITTEN BY: Ty Richardson
“Far Cry” is already a weird franchise with its over-the-top action and ridiculous humor, but these unlockables went further than we expected. For this list, we'll be looking at the strangest unlockable features and weapons from Ubisoft's FPS series. Our list includes the Daredevil Outfit from “Far Cry 5” (2018), the K-9000 from “Far Cry 6” (2021), Explosives in “Far Cry Primal” (2016), and more!
Script written by Ty Richardson Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at the 10 Weirdest Unlockables in the “Far Cry” series. “Far Cry” is already a strange franchise with its over-the-top action and ridiculous humor, but these went a few notches further than we expected. Which of these did you find the weirdest? Let us know in the comments.

Whack!

“Far Cry 5” (2018) Some mercenaries prefer to use baseball bats with barbed wire or serrated machetes to off their enemies. But in “Far Cry 5”, there is another option - have you tried an oar? Yes, you can actually use an oar as a weapon, and there is a special variant you can find called “Whack!” Unfortunately, it doesn’t really do anything special outside of boasting higher stats than your typical oar. But really, how many mercs are expecting some wackadoo to come running in with a cartoony-looking oar?

Daredevil Outfit

“Far Cry 5” (2018) Wanna look even more insane when swinging the Whack paddle every which way? Well, this is a set of threads you’ll want. The Daredevil outfit will make you look like you’ll do anything crazy just to reach the same level of achievement as Evil Knieval. Well…minus the stars and super patriotic aesthetic. Considering how midwestern “Far Cry 5” is with its country attire, this seems just a little bit out of place. But hey, this is “Far Cry”: consistent logic is thrown out the window here.

Guapo

“Far Cry 6” (2021) Case in point, Guapo. In case you haven’t had the chance to play it, “Far Cry 6” features an assortment of pets that can help you in combat. One of those pets is Guapo, a ferocious crocodile owned by former KGB spymaster Juan Cortez. To unlock him as your own amigo, you’ll simply have to complete the mission “Juan of a Kind”. Yeah, it doesn’t take much to get this reptilian beast on your side, and Guapo is absolutely vicious!

Optimism

“Far Cry 5” (2018) Okay, we all know by now that shovels have been used as weapons in many games. We’ve seen it in “Battlefield 1”, and we had an entire franchise centered around steeling thy shovels in “Shovel Knight”. But “Far Cry”? Why would we bash a dude upside the head with a shovel? Well, because it’s just too damn funny, that’s why. And what makes it even funnier? Spray painting a smiley face that looks like the old WalMart mascot on it. Wait…you can toss shovels around like their freakin’ javelins? Best game.

“Far Cry: New Dawn” (2019) Though Ubisoft has talked about the possibility of “Splinter Cell” making a comeback, we’re not holding our breath. Many old Ubisoft IPs have been abandoned and have been pushed aside for other franchises or forced to take the backseat. Just look at Sam Fisher. Poor guy’s outfit has been lost to “New Dawn” to serve as nothing more than a memory, a relic from a time where stealth games were a special commodity. But we gotta say it's weird to see Tom Clancy cross over into a game that takes almost nothing seriously.

Magnopulser

“Far Cry 5” (2018) “Far Cry 5” really is the oddest of the bunch, and this isn’t the last time we’ll see the game. With the exception of the early games, “Far Cry” rarely steps into science fiction these days, at least not as hard as it used to. Harnessing the same power as a microwave, you can use this weapon to cause anything organic to just explode into viscera. It's violent, it's brutal, it's one of the weirdest things you can get in “Far Cry 5”. And yet, it isn’t the weirdest.

Explosives

“Far Cry Primal” (2016) Now, let’s remind ourselves about “Primal”. We aren’t in modern times anymore. We aren’t in the age of firearms and motorized vehicles and the like. “Primal” is set in prehistoric times, the era where cavemen were using sticks and rocks to hunt and fire was a mysterious element of heat. So, how in the hell are we able to craft bombs out of animal fat and clay? Bee bombs, we can get. Berserk bombs? Okay, we’re pushing it, but sure, we can get a bit fantastical with this time period. But this? Lighting dudes on fire with animal fat? Only in “Far Cry”, man.

Slingshot

“Far Cry 5” (2018) So, we’ve seen paddles, shovel javelins, and hand cannons with the power of microwaves pop up in “Far Cry 5”. What can be stranger than those? Picture this, will you: an army of mercenaries is sitting around with hostages, guns, vicious animals to fight on their behalf, and weaponized vehicles. What could you bring to the fight? A slingshot. What is this rinky-dink joke of a weapon doing in a game of gunfire and explosions like this? With stat values of six across the board, why would you use this over anything else? Maybe to make fools out of the basic grunts, but that’s about it.

“Far Cry 5” (2018) Now, the Sam Fisher outfit wasn’t as weird as this is. Yes, in “Far Cry 5”, you can show your love for the Rabbids in three different ways. For starters, you can get a cute little bobblehead of a Rabbid to use for your vehicles. But if that isn’t enough, you can also don a Rabbids t-shirt in-game that makes us wish this shirt was a real thing we could get. It’s weird on the surface, yes, but not until you consider the couple times where Rabbids parodied the “Far Cry” games. Still, it is a little bit off, but not as much as our final entry.

K-9000

“Far Cry 6” (2021) Yes, there is something crazier than having a freakin’ crocodile as your ally. Some of the other animals include a couple of panthers, a rooster, and a puppo. However, there is another good boy who will defend you until the end of time. K-9000 comes with all the bells and whistles you would expect from a robot dog. Bulletproof plating, stealth, immunity to fire and poison, and even a self-destruct program. Yes, he is a part of the Blood Dragon DLC, but of anything in “Far Cry”, K-9000 is by far the weirdest but coolest thing we’ve seen in the franchise.
