Forgotten Video Games: Clash At Demonhead

Some games are better than you think. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be taking a look at 1990’s all-but forgotten open-ended platformer “Clash At Demonhead” for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

As the game opens, S.A.B.R.E sergeant Billy ‘Big Bang’ is asked to save Professor Plum, the creator of a doomsday bomb, a device so powerful that it can destroy the entire world.

On his quest, he soon encounters the mastermind behind the abduction, and learns that seven medallions control the weapon. And each is being held by one of the governors of Demonhead.

While seeking out the medallions Bang inadvertently frees a powerful demon trapped within the northern mountain, and discovers that the doomsday bomb is actually of alien origin, and that humanity was a failed experiment.

As an open-ended platformer, Demonhead is unique for presenting players with a large map consisting of over 40 possible routes. Along the way players are presented with various objectives and must explore the map to find a means to complete these tasks.

Initially armed with a handgun, Billy can purchase weapon upgrades from various shops. He also gains special powers and suits that grant him the ability to become invisible, scuba-dive, fly, shrink, heal himself and teleport to previously visited areas at will.

In addition to its cult status, the game has recently received a lot of attention from fans of the comic-book series “Scott Pilgrim Vs The World” as it is the name of his girlfriend’s band, and features a character modeled after Billy ‘Big Bang.’

Unique among games from its era, it is one title that any gamer today would enjoy for its varied experience, deep sense of exploration and killer plot.
