7 Things You Should Know About MAG

It’s the most ambitious and extreme online console experience to date. Welcome to Watchmojo.com and today we’ll be filling you in on the 7 Things You Should Know about The PS3’s “Massive Action Game”.

Number 1: The Plot
The game takes place in the year 2025. In this future, the world had experienced a sweeping wave of military disarmament resulting from the signing of a global peace accord. However, due to an emerging resource crisis, the need to secretly employ private military contractors arose and spurred a secret worldwide confrontation known as “The Shadow War.”

Number 2: Game-play
MAG is an online-only experience for the PlayStation 3. It is the first to ever achieve epic-sized battles with up to 256 players loaded on multiple servers. Within these vast warzones players are posted to 8-man squads and asked to complete a set of mission objectives handed down by their leader in order to help the entire multiple-squad platoon. Game objectives are further divided based on the game mode chosen, such as Domination or Sabotage, in which you have to capture pre-determined locations or simply wipe out all opposing team-members.

Number 3: The Factions
The game’s distinct character comes from its unique factions of private military contractors. The first of which is the “Sever”, a ragtag military force with members coming from several war torn countries in the Middle East and Russia. The second is “Raven Industries”, a Western European force with high-tech weapons and armor. And finally, “Valor Company” who’s soldiers come from the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom sporting standard-gear.

Number 4: Experience Points and Leadership
Unlike many other first person shooters, MAG is all about experience points. Points are awarded for almost every action that benefits the team, such as making kills or capturing enemy control points. Eventually, you will achieve higher ranks due to the amount of XP you have and you can use this to purchase new weapons, gear and special abilities.

Upon reaching level 15 you can become a leader. At this point you may take charge of a squad of 8 players. And eventually you will be able to lead multiple squads in platoons of 32, 64 and even 128 players. As the leader it is up to you to co-ordinate your team’s attack strategy via headset, organize air strikes and even reward your team members.

Number 5: Bleedout and Rolling Respawn
As a war game with a sense of realism, you can expect to die quite a bit from only one or two well-placed bullets. It’s simply not a run-and-gun shooter and you will fear the enemy. As a result, hits will cause you to fall and bleedout. Within a short amount of time all you can do is hope that a caring teammate stops to provide you with medical attention. If you aren’t so lucky, the rolling respawn system will ensure that you quickly regroup with your squad.

Number 6: Destructible and Repairable Environments
A large element of MAG is your squad’s ability to destroy facilities, as well as communications and weapons platforms. It is equally important to maintain the operation of your own machinery and bases. For example, taking out the enemy sensor grid will allow your squad to move undetected, however the opposite is also true.

Number 7: The Clan System
The final thing to keep in mind is that MAG is meant to be played with others, specifically through the use of headsets. Communication is the key to properly planning attacks and ensuring squad survival. Luckily, once you find like-minded gamers that you function well with you can form a long-lasting team, rather then choosing to be placed on a team at random.
