Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re taking a look at the 10 Times the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Infiltrated Other Games! The TMNT have seen a career in video games just as extensive as Mario, Sonic, and Pac-Man, and it’s gotten to the point where they’ve popped up in some unexpected places. Which of these cameos surprised you the most? And who do you think is the best turtle? Get yourself a pizza and share with us in the comments!

“Splatoon 2” (2017)

When it comes to Splatfests, Nintendo can implement some heated debates within the community, and it’s part of the reason why so many people play “Splatoon 2”. In May 2018, the game held a three-week long Splatfest for players to duke out who was the best of the turtles. Ultimately, it came down to Raphael and Donatello, and our tech geek turtle came out on top in the end. While that portion of the community is dead wrong and knows Raphael is the best, it was interesting to see the House Mario Built acknowledge a franchise like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

“Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5” (2015)

There weren’t many reasons to play “Pro Skater 5” back when it initially launched, and with the servers being shut down for years now AND the game requiring an online connection, there isn’t much reason to seek out a copy. Still, it was cool to see various guest characters make their way into the game, and the Turtles got to skate alongside “Cuphead” and “Twisted Metal’s” Sweet Tooth. Experience this buggy mess of a game as Raph, Mikey, Leo, and Don in their unique, cel-shaded glory! The “Pro Skater” series already meshed various IPs together in the early years, so to see THPS finally get some turtle power was a dream come true. Sucks it wasn’t enough to save this game and its developer, Robomodo.

“Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix” (2020)

Although the TMNT were not originally Nickelodeon characters, they have become a big part of the children’s network since Nickelodeon bought the IP back in 2009. Today, it isn’t that bizarre to see Leo and the gang alongside other Nicktoons like SpongeBob SquarePants, Korra, and Ren & Stimpy. “Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2” even went above and beyond with the TMNT love. In addition to featuring the turtles and Shredder as playable characters, various other TMNT characters were included as pit crew members including April O’Neil, Casey Jones, and Kraang. And of course, there were four tracks dedicated to the franchise. Basically, this game was screaming “cowabunga”!

“Brawlhalla” (2017)

“Brawlhalla” is already loaded with guest characters from not just Ubisoft but various other properties. The heroes in half-shells invaded the “Smash” clone in 2021 as skins for fighters Jiro, Ragnir, Mirage, and Val and even featured unique animations to bring the turtles to life. On top of that, various cosmetic items themed around the franchise were included for players to show their TMNT love. Those turtles really turn up in some unexpected places, and we’re barely halfway done with the list.

“The Lego Movie Videogame” (2014)

Normally, we wouldn’t count entries involving cut content for lists like this, but this one is too mysterious and harrowing to pass up. “The Lego Movie Videogame” already features a variety of characters, particularly those featured in the 2014 film. One character featured in the film somehow didn’t make it into the game - our beloved Michelangelo. Deep in the files of the PC version, data shows that Mikey was planned to be a playable character at one point. Not only does he have a profile image, but he also has a complete character model. Chances are Mikey couldn’t make it into the final build because of difficulties obtaining the rights to the character. So sad.

“NASCAR Heat Evolution” (2016)

You know what’s really crazy about the TMNT? The fact that we have a NASCAR event held every year in Chicago, Illinois called the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400! Yes, it’s an actual event that has been happening every year since 2001! “NASCAR Heat Evolution” would honor the event and IP during a hearty round of DLC! During this wave, drivers who raced in the 2016 TMNT 400 would see their car designs added for their in-game counterparts. And so, NASCAR fans and TMNT fans could finally compete together and express their fandom.

“Hot Wheels Unleashed” (2021)

Now, if you wanna talk turtles and cars, “Hot Wheels Unleashed” is definitely the place to be! Since its launch in September 2021, “Hot Wheels Unleashed” has gone above and beyond to pay the utmost respect to Mikey, Raph, Leo, and Don. Initially, all we had was their iconic van, and that was good enough for us! But then, Leonardo was thrown in during the first wave of DLC. Then, we had Raphael and Mikey during the second wave. Donatello was added in the third wave following. And in July? Shredder will make his way to the game, too. Needless to say, the turtle power is radiating at an intense level here!

“Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl” (2021)

With the half-shell heroes finding their place in Nickelodeon’s family of Nicktoons, it just wouldn’t feel right leaving them out of another solid crossover title. Admittedly, the roster does feel a bit barren compared to “Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2”. (Where are Raph and Don?) Still, developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs have done TMNT justice. On top of perfectly encapsulating Mikey, Leo, Shredder, and April’s style and expressions, we were given three fantastic stages all within the style of the 2012 animated series. It’s just such a shame that Shredder didn’t come with a fourth stage and got lumped in with “Double Dare” instead.

“SMITE” (2014)

Now, “SMITE” has been a tad weird with its crossovers, having done so with “Stranger Things”, “Transformers”, and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. The turtles themselves made a surprise appearance from the sewers, ready to battle it out against the various gods featured in the MOBA. Along with a TMNT-themed battle pass, four gods were chosen as base kits for our favorite mutants. Choose Osiris to play Leonardo, Mercury for Michelangelo, Loki for Raphael, or Sun Wukong for Donatello. Strange, yes, but this wasn’t the only time the boys went up against literal gods as we’ll see in our final entry.

“Injustice 2” (2017)

“Injustice 2” wasn’t just a celebration of DC Comics. We also saw the addition of two “Mortal Kombat” characters and a little more love for other comic book franchises like “Hellboy”. For the final DLC character slot, all four turtles were thrown in the battle it out with DC’s greatest heroes and villains. All players had to do was swap out weapons in the customization screen to access their favorite hero in a half-shell, and they all performed what might be the best Super in the entire game. And the best part of it all? We could finally relive those times the TMNT fought the Dark Knight. Bring it on, Batman!!
